I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!!!!!! There is a lady that comes in every so often at my Starbucks an it breaks my heart that I can’t communicate in a way that is easy for her I would love for her to come in and not have to write her order so I def am going to practice these so she can see that I want to be able to communicate ❤️❤️❤️
This is amazing, thank you for watching and willing to learn to help the lady that goes into your job to order. We welcome new learners! Thanks again! :)
Oh my god this is amazing, I had an amazing deaf woman who had to write down her order for me and I really want to start learning sign language for her and the rest of the community
Although I am CODA, both my parents passed many years ago, and unfortunately for myself & my daughter, …. A lot of our sign has been forgotten. But she just started working at Starbucks and this video is an incredible reference!! Thank you for making it!!
We’ve got a customer who has been coming more recently who is deaf and I always feel bad for just having to have her read my lips. This is so helpful and I am excited to learn more to be able to help her better.
Thank you so much for this! I work at a Dunkin but the words are universal! There's a man who comes by about once a week and I always feel awful because I barely remember things from my ASL class and I've messed up on his order a few times. I've gotten better but I want him to feel welcome!
Thank you for this video!!! I was wondering you could do a follow up video for more coffee shop related signs? I work at a Dunkin’ Donuts and I would love to be able to ask, what can I get for you, cream or sugar, the sign for donut and maybe also a way to let them know I only know a little asl. Thank you for all your content. I love seeing deaf and HOH asl instructors!!!!!
I'm currently working on this to hopefully get it up soon! thanks for liking the video! Be sure to practice and feel free to share your videos of your signing! :)
I have a couple years of ASL because of highschool and I’m turning 16 in a few days and applying to Starbucks so I was wanting to learn signs pertaining to Starbucks, thank you this is so helpful!!
Thank you for slowing down the sign and also explaining the hand shape. I am new to ASL, only knowing (most of) the alphabet, and trying to learn signs for work. This video is excellent.
Absolutely love this! Soooo easy to follow along as a person with hearing trying to learn ASL! I asp have trouble learning new things so the fact thay this is easy is awesome!
I'm deaf/hoh and this is great! I'm trying to relearn asl (was never fluent but my mother and I have our own pygmy asl. Cause we learned from sesame Street books long time ago lol) One of the things I love most about this vid is that you are very clear with your words as well as your signs. In addition I love that you are doing it from the side as well! Feinstein subscribed so I can view more of your vids (I live in rural country so it's hard to find reasonable classes) Thank you so much
I went to the starbucks in DC that's run only by deaf and hard of hearing people and this is really helpful for when I go back so I can sign to them rather than writing everything down
It's so cool! I was looking for a video about how to do one of the long and specific orders. Like an iced caramel macchiato half caf and skim milk. Or something silly like that. And I needed this video to prepare me for that. So awesome and I subscribed because of this video.
For espresso you can also do your non dominant hand flat lalm side facing upwards and then make a 👌with your dominant hand and hover it kver your other hand and mkve it up towards your mouth.
These are great questions. I'll be sure to add these into my next video for you! Just like @Bex mentioned, you can also use the alphabet to fingerspell the words if it is specific. Often times that how we would use the terms. Thank you for asking!! I'm happy you are learning! :)
This was so helpful! But could you do a tutorial for work terms? I work with a hearing impaired woman at Starbucks and I know she gets frustrated especially with the mask situation. I would love to lessen the stress! Things like; take a break, grind coffee, do you need a restock?, you know all the things we say during peak lol thank you for taking the time to make these!
Hello my friend, thank you for the videos. you are very helpful. I have some questions. My daughter works at a pharmacy and she was wondering how you would sign the process of dropping off and picking up a prescription. I hope you can help. Thank you so much for the help. I appreciate it .
Hi! Thank you for your feedback and comment. I will see what I can come up with on those types of request. I try to make my videos more general and not job specifics. I'll see what types of questions or signs that most people may ask for :) Thanks again for following!
Hi! I am a barista at Starbucks that took 4 semesters of ASL, and my manager is wanting me to help teach the staff some Starbucks signs. I am really curious if there were recognized specialized signs for those words you fingerspelled, like Latte. I had a Deaf customer tell me that frapp had its own sign (a sideways f that circles over a sideways s, kind of like the coffee sign), and she even told me that Deaf stores have signs for these words. I did notice that one Deaf Store not in the U.S. also had a sign for frapp, but it was slightly different (a forward facing f next to a sideways modified C, with the f making a forward circular motion). So I really want to know if there were codified signs for these drinks in ASL, or if it is just going to be different based on the community area. Am I going to have to fingerspell most of the drinks? i.e. cappuccino, misto, americano, mocha (which I honestly assume is just "hot" "chocolate" "latte" hahahaha) Also, was happy to see that I can sign Venti with that initialized sign! Is there perhaps one for Trenta?
Great questions! I haven't seen any official signs for those words such as Latte, mocha, etc. but that doesn't mean they don't exist. often times they may be developed in the Deaf community in the area, but I have not yet seen those signs here in my area. I'm really interested in know if they do, I'll do some research to see. my best advice would be to fingerspell for now, if they offer you the sign it's okay to adopt it and use it. :) Thank you for asking!
why is the wh-word sometimes in the beginning of the sentence and sometimes its at the end? "what size" from my studies they say wh-words should be at the end but clearly in some cases it's not. can you talk about this?
Great Question, yes this is the case often times to learning ASL. However, sometimes when communicating in public, I change my grammar more so to fit the "PSE" which is another version of ASL grammar that is most closely related to English/conversational signing. However, there are instances where I have seen Wh-words being at the beginning and the end.
Very well done! I was looking for a sign for decaf. Didn't find it here. Someone said that DEAF COFFEE = DECAF, but I assume that's a joke. Are you hearing or Deaf?
As a barista at Starbucks, this is so helpful thank you!!!!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for willing to learn and use! :)
Hi
I work at Starbucks and this is just what I needed! I've been working on asl for customer service but I really appreciated this specialized vocabulary
You're so welcome! I'm happy this helped you and you are loving it! :)

Love this!! So helpful! I'm going to visit the deaf Starbucks in DC soon, want to be able to sign while I'm there. Thank you!! ♡♡♡
After I wasn’t able to take an order I’m making it my mission to be as helpful as possible!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! As a barista at Starbucks I asked for a module on this and nobody could find one!!! Thank you so much.

Going to a specialist cafe with only deaf mute staff. came here to learn how to order coffee. idk if they practice asl here but will try! thank you!
This is awesome! how did it go? I hope this helped a lot! thanks for watching. :)

What about the sign for “cold brew” and “cold foam”? “Vanilla?” “Caramel?”
Hello! Barista here. If you learn the alphabet well, very specific words can easily be finger spelled!
These are great questions. I'll be sure to add these into my next video for you! Just like @Bex mentioned, you can also use the alphabet to fingerspell the words if it is specific. Often times that how we would use the terms. Thank you for asking!! I'm happy you are learning! :)
