People might not like this big summer project but this is the fastest way to get the work done and it will save the most money. When the construction crews have uninterrupted access to the tracks, they can get the work done much faster.
The MTA makes plenty of money every day. Even though the ridership will probably never recover to what it was before covid because working from home wasn’t even a thought before covid. There’s just so much corruption and mismanagement of revenue. They don’t NEED congestion pricing. Average weekday subway ridership is 3.6 million. Before covid it was 5.5 million. The prices we pay to take commuter trains are absolutely astronomical. I went to Melbourne Australia in May 2023 and I was shocked at how cheap their public transport was. On weekends, my local branch of the LIRR runs once an hour. Some parts of Metro North run once every three hours on weekends. In Melbourne, their trains run every 10 to 15 minutes, even on weekends. On the LIRR after they started service to Grand Central, they eliminated timed connections at Jamaica and transferring trains is an absolute nightmare because one train no longer waits for another. They also eliminated almost all through service to Atlantic Terminal (Brooklyn). At first they eliminated through service to Brooklyn entirely but people who commute to Brooklyn were very upset and rightfully so. Many people who use my local LIRR branch are Brooklyn commuters.
Absolute inconvenience I was looking for a new Dr had to find one that wasn't located near the G train. Thats ridiculous. Many ppl will be inconvenienced
