But if they’re blocking your attacks while doing “vapour cancels”, you can do as many as you like. Forgot to add, doing these cancels doesn’t require meter at all which is great but hard to be consistent with it unless you’re this guy haha
Same man. It's what separates good Smoke's from the rest. I'm in Master with Smoke now and can do it comfortably once or twice with my favorite strings, but I played against one just yesterday who was doing it consistently like this guy with so many moves, sometimes 3 or more times in a single blockstring. He could have prob kept going, but I'd get mixed and opened up by the 3rd or 4th cancel. Really made me realize how much I was lacking in mix.
@@YoshiLupusCan relate. Currently on “Champion” with Smoke while working up towards “Masters”. I guess it goes back down to practicing a lot with him and utilising his move sets as much as can. If only I can land his “Vapour Cancels” consistently without lagging or dropping it while mid combo lol
The funny thing about smoke is that 80% of his Meta is getting in your opponents head because 65% of his tactics lead to false combos or untrue frame advantages. He’s literally smoke and mirrors. But that’s the fun part about playing smoke, it’s knowing that your breaking your opponent down mentally instead of using ACTUALLY cheesy frame advantage spamming like Johnny or Liu. If you fight a solid opponent who’s not afraid to press buttons and can up block on command, along with proper spacing and reading your go top’s your pretty much gonna have to sweat with Smoke. And I mean SWEAT
A good tip is to wait until smoke actually turns into smoke, then press the cancel input twice. If you do it too early, it won't cancel. Pressing the inputs twice makes the chances of the cancel twice as likely
Practice mode and don’t over and over and over until you don’t even think about it I started that about 2 days ago I’m at the point where I can close my eyes and do it on average of 5 times before I fail I won’t consider it mastered until the can hit it about 50 times in a row

I picked up smoke as soon as I got MK1, and just yesterday gave Liu Kang a go and was really enjoying it, so this was a good fight for me to watch. Really enjoyed it. Liu put up a good fight and was reacting really well for a decent chunk of it, but just couldn't find the damage in the end. Smoke also realising mid-set that you just don't want to cancel the smoke dash against liu's low dragon was exciting to see. Got caught by cancelling it a couple of times then just nailed him with it in the back half of the set. Took the 10% and the position instead of trying to combo from it. Really cool to see.
Smoke is very easy to counter if you have some idea what you're doing. More-so at lower level match-ups. BUT smoke has an extremely high skill ceiling. The key seems to be based on how many formulas you can build around his vapor cancel. I didn't even KNOW it's possible to vapor cancel out of down 3, 4. It might not combo but regardless, being able to inject more mix-ups like that boosts his skill ceiling THAT much further. Super dope.
The sweaty ass moment when you doing a ranked set in mk1 and he is on your skill level and yall know the game and characters so well its just poke, flawless and upblock
This Smoke is insanely good. But i feel you need to be with him. I get my failed cancels punished so hard. Also how does he break throws so well? I rarely break them or see them broken at all.
Justnasty smoke is insane, Sooneo would probably fare better if he stops zoning while backing his self in a corner. (Play a little more neutral and finish the f 434 to keep some distance) Once you are in the corner the cat is out the bag on the back throw., even then he was struggling with smoke. Again, Justnasty cancels was insane.
Tbf, if they cost meter, smokes effectiveness would be significantly less. The cancel, while also being integral to his stagger mix, is his main combo filler which allows him damage comparable to the rest of the cast. He would be way to resource reliant if it cost meter
I really just play invasions and online against 1 of my friends. Been playing ranked. Smoke v smoke and got obliterated by him. Ran it back 40 times with him just to learn in real time. Shoutout to that guy man for taking his time to just beat my ass like that lol

It’s just a matter of matchup knowledge and JustNasty was getting a lot of free turns because of it. Not to critique his smoke though, very solid player indeed

you can always cancel any move, but it's very unsafe and minus, the opponent could have jabbed every time or even sweep to punish, smoke is full of fake pressure, that guy just didn't know the matchup

Im hoping so much the damage stays like it is only tanya and sub zero get damage buffs because it would be dumb This mk11 damage was not good fujins best and hardest combo was 27% like no you know how hard that sh is to do. It would be smart to make the Charakters be at 37% plus meterless and up the 50% plus one bar. Please nrs dont think all of a sudden that they need more scaling. Sub zero would be useless like wtf Imagine they scale all damage down than Charakters like raiden would still be at 37% plus and sub zero would not even get to 25% damage that would be so dumb. I personally think damage is too high. I like longer fights, not making 1 mistake and losing half your bar. It's not hype, sorry. Combos are not what hypes me up, it's the decisions in neutral people make to get to that combo that are hype. Combos stop being hype after the first week, especially when all of them are 10 seconds longer since everyone has to use sareena, which is also getting old. Kameos are so bad. They ruin neutral and make rush down too good. Like not everyone needs a full screen projectile, the ability to rush down for free, blockstrings for days and huge combos cuz of Kameos. They are literally too important and take away from the fight IMO.

They made the execution so easy in this game that it’s actually great for newer players. People with no experience / new are hitting 40% or more character dependent. Its a 50:50 into death kinda game with a tiny bit of meter management. And that’s fine, it’s fun. I love NRS games but i am also realistic in what it is.
Boooo Kameos are soooo boring. Wish they just made meterless combos better. As it stands now 90 percent of the game is kameo. Not everyone needs full screen projectiles or the ability to rushdown for free. NRS sold out. Breakers should cost 2 meter like in 9, especially with things like sareena draining your bar. Damage is too high for it to cost 3 bars.

@@IceKream520 that seems like a really fatal and fundamental problem for a character to have. How do you even fix that aside from making the hit boxes deviate from the visual attack animations? I can’t remember off the top of my head if Smoke has any highs that look like they could pass as mids. Or maybe there are some other tools that can be strengthened to better compensate for those weaknesses. I honestly mind the lack of mids a lot less than the gaps. It kinda feels like a slap in the face to be able to get mindlessly stuffed on high execution stuff (namely the smoke dash cancel).

Not everyone needs full screen projectiles or the ability to rushdown for free. NRS sold out. Breakers should cost 2 meter like in 9, especially with things like sareena draining your bar. Damage is too high for it to cost 3 bars.

watch that Perfect Legend video on how to punish Smoke, gaps everywhere, no real mids to truly pressure the opp, Smoke is full of fake pressure, u can jab him out of everything, the cancels are so minus it can be sweeped, just sit back and crouch block then jab/punish Smoke, upblock overhead, they won't be able to do nothin
@@IceKream520 that seems like a really fatal and fundamental problem for a character to have. How do you even fix that aside from making the hit boxes deviate from the visual attack animations?
I can’t remember off the top of my head if Smoke has any highs that look like they could pass as mids. Or maybe there are some other tools that can be strengthened to better compensate for those weaknesses. I honestly mind the lack of mids a lot less than the gaps. It kinda feels like a slap in the face to be able to get mindlessly stuffed on high execution stuff (namely the smoke dash cancel).
Get decent with smoke, then reevaluate. You'd be shocked at how exploitable he is.
Smoke is so busted
Kenshi, Raiden, and smoke, Baraka, and mileena all need damage nerfs. Or bring up everyone else's damage.
Smokes damage by itself is actually pretty low. Its his assisst that lets him get that kinda damage
@themcents4370 i get hit by 400 to 500 percent damage from smoke all the time. Doesn't seem that low

400 to 500 if they use all of their resources. A lot of characters can get 450 without spending a bar. @@CrossfitWarrior
