Did you know Sonic Adventure had DLC on the Sega Dreamcast? In this video I will be going over the rest of the weird Sonic Adventure DLC that was released! These Sonic Adventure DLCs never made it into the other remakes of the game, until more recently, where they have now been recreated by fans for others to experience!

I miss the days when Sega actually had simple non intrusive fun advertisements in their games. I remember when I was a kid thinking the Soap Shoes advertisements I saw on GameCube were also telling kids to use lots of soap. We really need a return to how things were done in the Adventure games!
@@CinnaMae420 The Soap ads didn't interfere with gameplay in anyway & just gave Sonic cool new grinding shoes & fun Soap Blimps. When I was a kid I didn't even know Soap was a real shoe company & thought it was fictional like Chaos Cola, Chao in Space, & Planet of the Chaos advertisements.

It's not wierd at all that they placed Yukawa pictures throughout station square tbh, Yukawa starred in some very popular commercials, he played a major role in a Demo for Shenmue called "What's Shenmue?" and ever his own Dreamcast game called "Yukawa Motosenmu no Otakara Sagashi " which was a little treasure hunting game where you could win stuff in a similar fashion to this. He had gotten quite famous around japan at this point for his unexpectedly good acting.

Interestingly enough, these DLCs aren’t complete recreations! Almost all of the Dreamcast DLC for Sonic Adventure is available for download (even from your Dreamcast today!) It took a while to get into the DLC files, but once they got in, they were ported straight from the DLC Dreamcast files into the PC version. (With appropriate changes, of course!)
Also, speaking of the Christmas DLC, I made this mod to go along with it, make Station Square covered in snow!

I love the fact that so much of this has been archived and can be played still in a modded SADX, and for super nerds who got their Dreamcast back online it’s possible to download it to a VMU and play it!
Y'know another Dreamcast must have game that had DLC? Soulcalibur.
They sold a million copies, and they decided to release VMU games as DLC. The VMU games were lost for quite sometime, but they have all resurfaced and have being translated as well, since they were Japan exclusive. Completing the VMU games, you could unlock a 4th costume for Voldo. As far as I know, this costume is lost? Haven't actually seen it and its existence might as well be just a rumor. We are talking about a pretty obscure DLC for Japan only after all.
That and, not in the game per say, they made 3 Windows 98 themes and they were available to download in the original website. These themes are also lost. And no, they're not in the SoulArchive version of the website. That website, in fact, has some lost artwork as well.
And the manga released in 2000 in Japan and Taiwan, based very loosely on the game's story. There are some pictures of it, but no full scans.
There was DLC in the Japanese release, such as playing as Inferno and Edge Master, as well as online leaderboards and challenges. By the time they ported the game to the West, the DLC was included (except 1 Voldo costume I think) and the online connectivity was removed.
@@CyberpunkStudiosLtd As far as I know, Soulcalibur I never had an online leaderboard, but I could ask some Japanese friends I have about that (it could just not being properly documented).
The PAL and NTSC-U versions didn't received any DLC, the milliion copy DLC was always Japan only. The VMU games that could be downloaded were translated by fans after they were rediscovered and put back online (I think Dreamcast Junkyard even mentions how the games remained lost for years until miraculously someone uploaded them online); the 4th Voldo costume was a "trophy" for completing the VMU games, so it counts as DLC as well. I'm also pretty sure that the million copies sold DLC came out after the game was localized and released outside of Japan, that's why we didn't received any of the DLC.
The strange part, tho, is that in the re-releases of the game (Xbox Arcade marketplace, Android and iOS) didn't had the Japanese DLC included. At least the Android version didn't, as one of the latest versions before it was taken down included all the characters and all the costumes already unlocked. Voldo only had 3 costumes. This is why I suspect that it might as well not exist.

I work with the Dreamcast online community from time to time, and one of the Japanese DC websites I restored (awaiting upload to the community) is the Japanese Soul Calibur website. Only in that region did it have online leaderboards, as well as the downloadable VMU games. The DLC was not backed up with the site, however, so I wasn't able to restore them. You'll find me on the dreamcast-talk.com forums under the name Roareye. I've been restoring other sites such as Propeller Arena, POD, Daytona USA 2001, Sega Rally 2 and many others.

The DLC was awesome! Back in the day I emailed the VMU files to myself for safe keeping and stored them on my computer's hard drive. Unfortunately THAT was how I learned about data redundancy, when the WD 10.1 GB drive later failed.

If it was AT&T Worldnet that branded the time attack, then wouldn't the AT&T prize logically be a Worldnet package? It was an internet subscription, from what I gather, now known simply as att.net
Yep, it was. The promo was basically AT&T pushing that you didn't need a computer to use their service (as you did with some at the time) and that it was more reliable than whatever you were currently using.
These are all available through the dreampipe website for those with a dreamcast and an internet connection, simply click on the dlc from the archive and they will download to your VMU.

Sega created dlc before literally any company, and this was back in the late 90's.
Online events, patch updates to modify the stages and overworlds for holidays or sponsors.
Sega literally created the current form of gaming... Damn near 20 years ago.
If the dreamcast lasted longer, and if sega did better with....well... Everything, We'd probably still have sega consoles, hell, sega would probably be dominating the market.

when he said 1:05 that the Dreamcast was the first non-computer to access the internet... that's such a false statement. Even the Sega Genesis had a thing called the Sega Channel. Pretty sure other consoles around that time tried it as well.

Sega Channel did not access the internet, it accessed your cable company's hard drives on servers specifically set up for Sega Channel.
The servers were connected to the internet, but the Sega Genesis nor the Sega Channel directly connected to the world wide web.
On top of that, you're talking about a *cartridge* that connected to the servers, not the console itself, whereas the Dreamcast had built in online capability to within the *console itself*.
And no, no other console had built in online capability like this prior. The PlayStation 2 had it as an optional add-on, but that came out after the Dreamcast.
Sonic Adventure always reminds me of the early 2000s, A time I miss a lot and feel heavy nostalgia for. I didn’t ever get a dream cast and I grew up with sonic adventure DX, So when I got it on steam and installed BetterSADX I was so happy to play the game with those old textures that were new to me at the time. I fired this game up about 6 months ago and looked at the mod loader, Something about “2K” was unchecked and I thought it would give me 2000 rings or something so I turned it on. I loaded the game and low and behold “Happy New Year 2000” was plastered all over station square’s train station. I couldn’t help but smile and feel like it was actually the turn of the millennia, It may seem weird to some of you but I was so happy when I saw that. I’ve played this game for 10+ years and to find out that something new came with the game was absolutely heartwarming
I felt like I was actually in a celebration lol, Anyways moral of the story is a little can go a long way and those small things are what make me miss the old Sega

You should also try to look up the DLC for the original Sonic Adventure 2. Information for this is scattered all over the place, and some of the DLC has already been recreated for the PC version, such as the Halloween content.

S9 basically a DLC that sponsored Sonic the Hedgehog in the late 1990s! They should do this again in the Sonic Adventure 2nd remake (if it's real; all we know is that it's a rumor right now)
It's neat they had DLC commemorating the release of Samba de Amigo. There's a picture of Sonic in a sombrero with maracas in the back of the Sonic Shuffle manual, advertising the Sonic Comics. I always thought it was for Samba de Amigo honestly. Haven't seen the art anywhere else.
Isn't there also an ad for Samba de Amigo in that same manual? It might still be a part of that but they just put put it with the ad for the comic because it looked nicer or something.

There was also audio DLC which would change the menu voice to that of the other characters. I still have the Big the Cat one on one of my VMUs. I’m not sure was it only available just in Europe or worldwide. IIRC Sega/Sonic team reissued a lot of the DLCs in Europe late in the Dreamcast’s life cycle

It does make sense that they made Yukawa-themed DLC since the Dreamcast's early ad campaign was about him convincing people to buy the Dreamcast; as such, he could possibly be seen as the Dreamcast's mascot at that specific time and place, and this was probably part of that campaign.

Don't know if you know this or not, but the website Dreamcast Live has an archive of DLC for the Dreamcast, including both Sonic Adventure titles and most other games with DLC, such as Phantasy Star Online. Probably something to check out.

I got a disc with my launch DC that you would pop into your PC that was from AT&T-Worldnet Service. That was what the AT&T DLC was about. It was a sponsorship from AT&T to try and get you to sign up for their internet service, and thus get online with your DC using it. The disc I have has the program to sign up for the service as well as a number of 640x480 videos highlighting upcoming DC games (like Crazy Taxi, with a bit of the original Offspring music that you got in the original CT intro.
But, if you signed up for AT&T-Worldnet you'd get a free DC Keyboard! I just used a local ISP so I didn't need their service.

How about an fire emblem lost bits video, from experience with online battles in fates as example, there is a lot that seems unused and I probably only saw the 'competitive' unused stuff. Would be interresting in seeing something like that for one of the newest fire emblem games

They have to add those to the remake if they ever make one, even if they have to replace all the brands with something generic.
It is best the idea of an Adventure remake does not officially surface anytime soon; especially knowing the modern Sonic fanbase.
