I loved this one. Especially the photo hanging in the window. I’ve been on a Buster Keaton binge lately. I’ve enjoyed every one of them.

According to Jim Kline’s book The Complete Films of Buster Keaton, Buster spent 4 grueling weeks doing his own underwater stunts for this movie. This done in Lake Tahoe which was icy cold at the time. Buster’s favorite gag of the movie - Buster directing traffic when a school of fish was interrupting his ship repairs - was cut from the film when he realized the gag interfered with the dramatic flow of the rescue scene.
Why Lake Tahoe? Catalina Island was closer. Besides, the beach scene looked like southern California, not a mountain lake hundreds of miles north.
I think any reference to L. Tahoe was of a different movie.
@@secretsquirrel6308 The underwater scenes were filmed in Lake Tahoe because the water was extremely clear. The beach scene might well have been in southern California.

Great movie. Love being able to see a vintage ship from the era too. Wonder how they did the boiler scenes, made sets, shot on new boilers? Maybe the found a ship that had just had her tubes/staybolts reworked so it was clean.

How brilliant! Keaton is second to none for originality and stunts (as usual) and Kathryn McGuire is superb too - fiesty! I loved her designer sailor suit with the 1920s dropped waist and baggy trousers - superb.. The only fly in the ointment: the commercials - intrusive and unbearable - be warned. But I suppose it is better to see it like this than not at all

I read they put the camera in some kind of big box like thing they created. Don’t quote me though i’m not 100% sure.
Construct an aquarium with one side being a plate of glass the camera is on the other side of the glass. The opposite side is painted to look indiscriminate and hide studio surroundings. The aquarium would be 10 x 20, I reckon.

These films were stolen around 1966. Copyright law starts the time clock over if the originals were stolen and then recovered. They have not yet been recovered. When they are returned to the rightful heirs, the copyright clock resets.
