    Hi Lia! I appreciate that your wardrobe includes four seasons. I live in Montana, where it is pretty chilly even on summer mornings, so I have to have all my clothes out all the time. Some minimalists I've seen have a "capsule summer or winter wardrobe", but those don't really apply to me. So thank you for showing me something I actually relate to!

    You could embroider a design over the hole in the sweater. Perhaps a flower, ladybug or snowflake.
    Haha I always bought my kids bright coats so I could pick them out quickly! My son wore orange for years so I could always easily keep an eye on him.

    Hi Lia :) the old sweater with discoloration which you debate on declutering, you can
    1. Dye it darker
    2. Cut the end where it peels off and sew on a little hem
    3. At the end of it's "clothes life", tear it appart, keep some fabric to repare other clothes that can tear appart or so
    4. Tear it and use it to swipe the floor, dust the house, clean the windows... so the fabric will have a much longer life!
    Hope this helps, wish you the best

      @@viktorijamarozaite1408 ahaha thank you! i am absolutely not a "zero waster", (i wish but i'm young and live w/ my mother who doesnt give a shit about the climate) so i just myself learned to sew so that i would'nt waste my clothes. I've had a jean that completely teared up in the inner thighs whithin the fabric itself, so I cut them to make shorts, and with the remaining good fabric of the legs made patches and new butt pockets on my other jeans so that they would be sturdier! I just love it because sewing needs concetration, it's like meditation

    The alpaca sweater that you knitted looks beautiful! I think it’s great that you try to get much wear out of your clothes. I’ve got a nightgown that feels so nice, but after 10 years it’s sadly falling apart beyond repair and I’m not ready to let it go.

The clothes themselves were in great condition but faded from the wash and all of the time that I spent outside. Hello, Lia, I always watch your vídeos but never commented. First of all, thanks for sharing your minimalist journey, it is very inspiring.
    Second I wanted to comment that one other way to elongate your clothes life is by dyeing them. I have done it some time. You can do it yourself at home. The problem is that usually you can only do it to a darker shade.
    Again, thank you for sharing your journey. I enjoy It very much.

      Thanks for your comment! I am happy you like my videos! That is a good idea, I have done that as a kid and with plants about a year ago. Usually, I don't want really dark clothes but it is definitely a good idea to have in mind because it can prolong the life of something for several years ☺

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't have anything super formal but I also haven't had an event like that in the last five years. And because I never owned something I felt great in, I decluttered the dresses I had. If an occasion would come up I would look for something that I could wear in my everyday life too, or if the event was really formal I would maybe rent, borrow or buy something secondhand to later return it if there isn't another occasion like that in the next year or so. But If I had something formal I like wearing I would maybe keep it for these events even if it means not wearing it often ☺

If it's polyester and already degrading, washing it will add microplastics into the wastewater whereas it will be burned if you throw it away and it will not add microplastics into the environment. But I know the struggle, I also have one worn but still wearable synthetic sweater that I already should have decluttered ^^"
