Good Job getting an expert out into the trenches to explain tariffs to the average American! It is VERY much needed!

They both are incorrect on it's actual utilizations. Just like sanctions it is a tool of leverage. By the US raising tariffs it will cause some not all businesses and companies to raise prices on the consumer which then curbs spending and decreases sales. The decrease in sales revenue hurts the companies then they look for a way to negotiate a decrease of the tariff rates. What the answer will be is to bring the businesses to the US to avoid the cost. Thus allowing manufacturing and hiring to increase in the US which then increases GDP and brings value back to the US dollar. Then consumers can expect to see prices go down while having more employment and a little bump in most cases for pay.
