Hey girl, can you do a video on naturally thin hair, I haven’t loc’d my hair yet and I’ve been considering it. However to achieve the size she has (pencil size) I would only be able to do about 15 locs as my hair strands are thin and my hair it self isn’t thick either.

I'm a teacher with locs, 5 years in. Thick and disrespectful! I have a Master's in Early Childhood Education..went on every interview with my beautiful locs. Every student I've ever taught or come across has been in love with my hair and say they wish theirs was like mine. Fuck "professionalism" it's a made up construct!🤟🏽😝

I'm Licensed Clinical Social Worker and work for local government. I started my first set of locs 20 years ago and I've always had "professional" jobs. I even rock headwraps.... Never had an issue. I been wearing my locs for 20 years. I am recently retired, I worked as administrative assistant at a university (I was the only African American in my department). Prior to starting my locs my hair was past my shoulders and I hated spending hours at the beauty shop every week to maintain "the look". I wore my locs proudly.
Believe it or not I got the most grief for African American sisters. Many sisters would said to me on campus "I want to start locs, but I dont think my department would allow it".
I cut my locs last year due to my length (my locs were past my thighs) my kids begged me not to cut my hair, they said it was my "brand". At present my locs have grown to shoulder length. My dude said I look younger with shorted hair. I love my locs and will never stop were them.

I had a government contracting job with my locks where I present it every Monday in front of many people virtual and live orientation. And now I work in the health field as a clinical technician and I still have my locks. I am able to help care for the patients who have locks because others don’t know what to do with their hair. I help patients feel loved as I tend to their hair. I have a skill that no one else has at my job and that is the ability to re-twist locks. The patients feel so much better when their hair is done

I am a Veterinary Technician and have been on my Loc Journey since 2002. There were a few years I also worked as a Teachers Assistant in Pre-K. With some of the kids my hair was a way to get them to embrace their new environment and gain their trust in me. Out of curiosity they would stare at my Locs, some would want to touch it some would not. I would remind them that is always ok to ask questions, that is a way to get to know the world and people around you!

Thank you Yannie, for breaking it down. Due to illness I started with thin Locs. Last year I had to combine half of the. There are doing much better now. And just you said I just let the new growth get long enough to wrap around the base/root. 🙏✌💜

I was a lose natural for over 10 years before I locked my hair 2 years ago. I have worked for 3 Fortune 500 companies during these times and the job I currently have is a Global Director role in Internal Audit. I interviewed for this job when I was 1 year locked. I’m also a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner. My hair has not hindered me. Thanks for highlighting this, so we can let our sisters know.

I’m the Planning and Neighborhood Services Director for a municipality in NC. I hold a Doctorates degree in Public Administration . I’ve had locs off and on for 8 years, this go round since 2020. I am the first African American to hold the position and was afraid to keep my locs due to my professional position, reasons why I kept cutting them off. After a while, I stopped worrying about what others think, because I’ve always loved my locs and that’s all that matters.
