I think the concept of mr Crocket was brilliant! when I saw the trailer and the concept for it I was so excited...I 1000% agree that the characters are not fleshed out and its hard to have any relation or sympathy for anyone...which is such a shame because the visuals and Mr Crocktet (who is is beyond brilliant) could of made this something purely special...such a shame
You're so right!!! I feel like if they chose one major POV and stuck with it, it would have worked. Movies like IT worked because it chose the kid's POV and let us get attached to them for us to care about the danger they were in. In Mr. Crocket, we don't know who to root for. We're just waiting for Mr. Crocket to appear again. They could've had a multi-film deal on their hands, but it's missing that aspect like you said.
Just listened to your review and all of your critiques sound like the same thing that you could've said when Nightmare on Elm Street/Halloween/Hellraiser/Phantasm/Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Friday the 13th/Leprechaun/Critters I hated the movie and I respect it as a way to start put a spin on the Black horror genre I laughed and went along with the movie without looking for answers I have noticed that a lot of reviewers of movies and shows nowadays put more thought into the things that they watch instead of just watching some1's ideas put out for entertainment(And we all know how hard that is)
Exactly! This is one of those films where you have to toss logic out the window and just soak it up like a classic horror flick. But, yeah, if we actually cared about any of the characters, Crocket would've been way more intense! I kept waiting to feel something for them, but… nope, just couldn't root for anyone.
i didn’t really root for anyone either and sympathized more for rhonda, and i think the actors all did what they could within the roles. now, besides the character development (although it is important, as a writer myself), i have to say i loved the movie lol. i thought it was definitely a full mix of all the movies you said, i thought of It right away when all the diff transformations happened. if they fleshed each of these things out a little more - the logic and the characters - and especially given some REAL depth to the grownup kid who crocket abducted back in the day rather than make us hate him later? it would have been a lot better. but i ignored these things and i fuckin loved it, i loved the effects . i was big on barney and sesame street as a kid, and the idea of them transforming into these evil dead things was very effective for me lol. i think elvis nolasco did a fantastic job as mr crocket. and i think mr crockets world (the one behind the tv in hell or whatever lol, that moon and stuff) was horrific and well-done. you’re right that it makes up for what it lacks with nostalgia & crocket & camp. which it shouldn’t have to do lol but makes it entertaining still. i wanted more rhonda right away. glad to see some reviews on it finally, i’ll say not many of the female commentary youtubers i watch (who talk film too) have discussed it 😅 happy halloween
You're spot on!! I kind of wish they just focused on one family or one kid and let us get used to the concept of Crocket. Less would've been more for the film. I loved it too and want it to go on. I'm just afraid that the lack of depth may not help it as there are already no notable stars to push the film to a larger audience (that could have helped as well).
