It’s nice to finally see a review on a bikes direct bike by a solid intermediate rider. Most reviews I’ve seen have been fresh beginners. I love mine but I’m an older rider and a re-beginner. It’s good to know I will likely still be happy with it when I reach the next level. Not that I really doubted but it’s reassuring to have an example to help confirm.
I've got the HAL 6 Boost as well and I would definitely recommend putting Blue Loctite (which is not permanent) on any and all bolts on the bike, especially the rear arm pivot joints and brake rotors. With tons of miles and 12 months on mine with the 3 times I've serviced the rear suspension, I've never had the bolts come loose when I use Loctite. Glad you are still enjoying the bike. I absolutely love my HAL 6.
@@frank9963 that tis also the whole point of buying a motobecane. You don't expect it to be perfect because you are getting a bike with new parts for a hefty discount compared to higher end bikes that won't have these small problems. So as long as it over holds up, dealing with the downsides of a cheap frame could be very worth it depending on the person.
Great review! I just bought this bike due to my last bike was stolen. I ride some pretty hard trails here in Colorado and I appreciate the fact that you ride this bike aggressively in this video so I can get an idea of what it can handle.
I bought the HAL boost a year ago haven't had alot of seat time do to work. I'm very impressed with it shifts awesome climbs great you can't beat it if your not in the market for a 6000.00 bike
For sure it's a beast! Sucks you havent gotten to ride, I'm working very little and have found a balance between living in poverty to feed my MTB addiction! XD
Awesome video man thank you. Detailed exactly what I was looking for. I would like to see you review the hard tail. I’m on an extreme budget and trying to get my family into it also so I think this brand is right up my alley. What do you think of the bike now?
Thanks for watching! Honestly I haven't ridden in a few months I was occupied with moving and as soon as we finished moving in I tore some ligaments in my ankle. Week 2 on crutches 😅 I'd love to eventually get the Motobecane Taz3 hardtail. I almost bought it a while back to have an option and/or loaner bike but unfortunately wont be able to justify buying another bike for a while now. To answer your question though I still love my bike, hasnt let me down at all and has held up great!
@@DirtTrampMTB I’ve been looking at it for a couple weeks now and also the Vitus Nucleus, Cannondale Trail 6, Diamondback Hatch 3, or your current mtb. So yea as you can imagine my brain is melting 🤯😵💫
@@DirtTrampMTB can't wait for mine to arrive this week. Watching ypur vid help me decide to pull the trigger on it. Thanks for the revirw, not much out there, keep up the good job!
Great review, thanks for the follow up it helps to know a bike is lasting. After a year how do you feel about the build of the frame? Does the frame have the quality to be built on over the next 10 years? I'm not a jumper, but will do drops, heavy root/rocks, and my extra weight punishes a suspension. I don't need a name brand, just a frame that performs well, will last, and be a ton of fun to ride. Thx
Sweet action with the dog ,Im pretty sold on this bike I am gonna try taking my dog to our local trails but there are a lot of Karen's there (Karen is a unisex term)
Lol yeah I try to avoid highly trafficked trails but honestly if people are out in the woods they shouldn't be surprised to see an unleashed animal so they can get over it XD
Great review. I really want to ride one of these, just to see how it feels compared to my Ripmo. I bought my wife one of the cheaper $400 Bikes Direct bikes, and it seems to be very good compared to other bikes at that price point.
Just file it down smooth a bit and color black with black magic marker. aluminum won't corrode much. Little load goes through the outside there and so we are really just talking about aesthetics...but regardless sorry your bike fell from truck, that would worry even less OCD peeps
Just found your channel recently. Great videos, great content and your very well spoken. Questions about Motobecane. I see you like your bike. I'm interested in the Motobecane Fly CF NX Eagle hardtail. I think it will be good for a weekend warrior. Is the bike really sub 22lbs like they say on the website? Thrown off because the low price. I've been reading that the rims can't or are very expensive to upgrade because of the odd size hub. Is that true? Upgrading is important to me. If I get the bike it won't be taking the abuse your bike does. I enjoy cross country.
Thank you so much, glad you like the videos! Just checked out the bike you mentioned, looks great! Not sure what you mean about the hubs. Says they are 15x110 front and 12x148 rear which is standard boost thru axle sizing. I would not hesitate to buy that bike at all if I wanted a light XC bike! I still love my Motobecane!
Looks like a great bike, im looking at getting my first big purchase for a nice bike and am very much considering this. One thing i noticed was how much extra effort it takes to climb hills when you have rear suspension. does yours stiffen enough with the switch to make it easier on uphills?
It has a full lock out on the rear so yes. However, I don't notice enough of a difference to bother using it on the trails. If I'm climbing a long paved or gravel section I'll flip the switch but that's about it. I also don't mind getting a good workout in though! XD

Thank you! Yeah most riders at my level have to have a brand name bike. But you can see the regret in their face when I tell them what I paid for it!

Just released the review on the HAL6 we got for my gf. Very happy with it so far!
bolts that loosen is sign of a cheap bike

Wow your review is incredibly detailed, comprehensive and thorough. Makes me want a new bike. And that dog is the best!
Thanks so much! She is the best for sure she loves riding!
Thanks for the update. I was encouraged by your first video and like Rick, I bought a Hal 6 and anxiously waiting for delivery.
Awesome! My girlfriend is waiting on hers too. Will have a review of it shortly after. Glad my review helped, I'm sure you'll love it!
After watching your first video I ordered a HAL 6 and hopefully it will be here shortly. Thanks for the follow-up!
Awesome my gf has an HAL 6 coming in as well! We will be reviewing it too I'm sure

Great review

Your review is great! I absolutely love my hal boost as well! My rear end gets loose too. Have you found replacement hardware?
Best thing to do is add some blue Loc-Tite to the threads!

I've ridden other high end bikes and don't feel any difference in quality. The differences are more in the geo and different components.
Are some of the clips in your video at big creek?
nice
Thanks!
3:48 that looks like road rash from a bike sliding down an interstate. Painful to look at.
It sure is. I am entertaining the idea of having it repaired and custom painted. I love the bike color but the logos everywhere is a bit much.
Just file it down smooth a bit and color black with black magic marker. aluminum won't corrode much. Little load goes through the outside there and so we are really just talking about aesthetics...but regardless sorry your bike fell from truck, that would worry even less OCD peeps
price went up . Chain reaction has a similar spec better frame vitus for less
I am curious if you'd be able to say if the 2021 version is as good value and quality?
I'm sure it is. It seems the price has gone up but everything looks the same otherwise!
Great video, thank you. Is the HAL Boost considered an Enduro bike?
Thank you! Yes it is.
How much does it weigh?
any issues with the suspension bottoming out on jumps? thanks
I am 160 and have the suspension set up for my weight and have not had an issue with it. Have hit 5 ft drops and such without bottoming out!
Did you add a dropper post?
No, it came with the KS eTen 100mm travel

What size stem and what size bars are on it now?
Same as stock. I actually went down to a 40mm stem and didnt like it. Felt way too squirrelly so I went back to the stock size which I believe is 70mm
What size did you get and was it smaller or bigger than you expected?
I got a medium and the fit is perfect! I am 5' 9"
Thank you! Im also 5’9 and got the medium so I think it will fit good.
I just want to believe this
