    Nice lesson. I never really thought about combining the notes of the scale into chords while playing the scale. Cool new sounds. I kinda knew about the 5 and the 8 fret, but some of the other chords you formed were nice. I like it when I learn something new regarding the simple pentatonic. Liked and subscribed. BTW, beautiful Silver Sky you have there. I have two PRSs a Custom 24-08, and a McCarty 594 Hollow Body II. A big fan of PRS. Are you going to the PRS Experience in May at the factory?

    Cool - AND; you are always only a 1/2-step away from a "correct" sounding chord tone or a tension...so slide up or down away from dissonance into harmony.

    What Dorian key would you play relative to A minor pentatonic scale, is it A Dorian or D Dorian, a little confused here . Same with say phrigian?

    • @Wallimann
      @Wallimann  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the chords, but typically A Dorian. :)

    • @tanguydelooz2881
      @tanguydelooz2881 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Aeolian (minor) is actually in the same scale (same notes) as D Dorian and E Phrygian (and C Ionian, F Lydian, G Mixolydia and B Locrian).
      So A minor with D Dorian : you're simply playing in the same key on A and D.
      However, A minor with A Dorian : you are just modulating between 2 modes (that are only 1 note apart) but at some point you will want to change to a chord with different root note.
      David's tip 5 is something else : the 7-note scale stays the same but moving the 5-note pentatonic shape feels like the root is moving : it's moving the "root" AND the "mode" but still resulting in the same set of 7 notes : e.g. Am pentatonic (aeolian implicit) to Dm pentatonic (dorian implicit) to Em pentatonic (phrygian implicitly).

    @marcobarbantibrodano6531 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I david i love your lessons but i do not really understand trick 5. For example why the penta starting from B should be G prhygian. The phrygian mode shuold contain a flat second and sixth if i am not wrong while that penta has a major second and sixth. Also the penta starting from E has a major third on G, how can it be G eolian? Where am i wrong!?

      Never mind, Duh! It's key of G. This is Am Dorian, so the 2nd note in key of G is A and Dorian is a minor.

    Just as an FYI to everyone out there, all of these concepts can be done to literally any scale in any key. These techniques are not exclusive to the pentatonic scale and have been done in the Jazz idiom for a very long time.
