    Great video. I didn’t buy a Power Wagon as a toy. It’s the only truck I’ve ever owned that can haul a tractor or skid steer up a snowy mountain road. In the winter, it’s the only way to get hay out across snowy pastures, unless you use a tractor, which is fine if you have two hours to spare. When the Power Wagon is in 4 low, with front and rear axles locked, it IS a tractor, just a little faster!

    I tow a 7150lb GVWR travel trailer (~950lb tongue weight) with my 2021 Power Wagon and I agree, it really doesn’t feel like it’s working hard. My trans temp stays rock solid at 168* regardless of grade or RPM. 6th gear is a 1:1 ratio in the 8HP75, feels great under load. I recently took the trailer up a mountain peaking at 14,000ft elevation and was surprised the truck just didn’t care. It has exceeded my expectations both towing and off-road. Thanks for the videos!

    • @TheGettyAdventures
      @TheGettyAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awesome to hear the PW can tow at elevation as well! Like I mentioned in the video this exact power trains is rated for 17,000lbs on any other ram 2500 so this truck should be able to rock it's max towing capacity of 10,600 like a dream. but what I was surprised about is how solid the truck was under load. obviously, you can tell your towing but it was very comfortable and effortless to drive with a load!

      While towing did you ever feel like you were in a situation where you were worried about the distance to the next gas station? One thing I'm worried about with the lower mpg. Stopping frequently or not seeing a station in time.

    I have a 2020 Power Wagon and I tow a 38ft toy hauler (travel trailer). Fully loaded, the trailer is close to 12k lbs and it's 13.5' tall, and the power wagon pulls it beautifully. I do have air bags in the back, and I have a Hensley hitch to prevent sway, but I'm very happy with how the truck pulls overall

    • @TheGettyAdventures
      @TheGettyAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya I can believe it! I'm now curious why the tow rating is so low. I mean are they that worried about the soft suspension 🤔. Because you put an extra 1500 lbs over the max tow rating of a ram 1500 and that thing would STRUGGLE. Whereas the PW seem to tow eith ease at their max tow rating and beyond

    finally a real world north of the border test in shitty Canadian weather that lasts more than 25 kms by a guy that actually does work and knows stuff. most videos have guys in places like Arizona @ 20 degrees with a stopwatch discussing birds on fenceposts wearing shiny new boots. well done! i live in the Kootenays in BC i've been thinking about getting a new truck, i have an 04 cummins that i pull big stuff with and a 18 1500 i use for boats, sleds, etc. some angry lady that lives in my house says i only need one so i'll be heading to the dealership. thanks for the insight.

      Lmao that made me laugh, I had two trucks at one point also and well one of them got sold! But ya I wanted to test this truck out because everyone complains about its towing numbers and I wanted to see if it was really that bad. truth is this truck can pull a load very well and I imagine if you have a "normal" 2500 it would tow even better. The 6.7 will run laps around this truck with a load but if you aren't towing crazy big numbers and can deal with some increased fuel mileage it does well! even in the shitty Canadian winters

    2022 ram 2500 6.4 hemi with 4:10 gears. I bought it to tow a cat 259d Ctl and I don’t regret it. I tow it 5 days a week and for mid range loads it’s very capable a couple times I’ve maxed it out at 17,000 pounds and I don’t notice a difference between that and my daily load.

    I have talked to Jeep engineers at MOAB about Jeep stuff, and in the same conversation I brought up the Power Wagon as I am looking to buy one. I mentioned the lack luster towing out of the PW for being a 2500. They said it was only due to the suspension. They said "unofficially" that RAM tested them far beyond that, and the truck did fine. The reason the suspension is the limiting factor is due to the manufacture unwilling to go any higher.
    Side no Bilstein wanted the PW to have a max tow rating of 8500 lbs so they could go all out on the offroad stuff. RAM then told them they were developing the TRX for that.
    I will be purchasing a 2023 PW if prices get back to normal.
    Cheers!

    I think a Power Wagon with Air Lift air bags would be the ultimate. I put them on my lifted Sport and holy shit! Even at -28 degrees Celsius I put a skid of dog food in the back and there was no squat, no break in the lines. I cant imagine a Power Wagon with them. For 250 bucks? Air them down get a great ride on and off road. Then when you want to Tow/Haul? Pump them up and run it like a stock Ram 2500.

    I have a 2019 power wagon and I’ve been towing my 13 K travel trailer with it without any issue. I’ve proven over and over again that the power wagon can easily handle 13k And a lot more payload on the spec suggests.
    It’s severely underrated by ram so you got plenty more capability hide in there.

    We had a 2003 Dodge 3500 4x4 with the 5.7 that was the general company multipurpose truck. I had a random day where I needed to move a trailer and my service truck had to stay with our other mechanic. So I took it for that trip. The 6500 lb trailer I pulled taxed that engine so badly that a 5% grade took me from 60 down to 40 with my hazards on. No check engine lights, I even took it to the dealer because I couldn’t believe nothing was wrong with it.
    I’ve been looking at these wondering how they do, because after that experience with the 5.7 I was mortified by the things I hear from people giving it all the hype.

    I had a 08 mega cab Cummins. Absolutely loved the truck…… but it rusted everywhere in 8 years. Started the second year of ownership. Living in Northern Illinois lots of salt. I downgraded to a F150 3.5 eco boost. Has tons of power but is all over the road pulling a enclosed snowmobile trailer. Mileage is very low when towing also. Very unnerving in snow hardening to northern WI. I’ve had it 7 years and no rust yet. Gotta love the aluminum body. Do you think ram has figured out the rust issue at all? Would hate to buy new with the highway prices now and have it rusted away in a few years.

  • @anthonywilson6611
    @anthonywilson6611 ปีที่แล้ว

    I couldn't justify the price of a three quarter ton compared to my half ton. I got the quad cab and the slightly longer box. 3.92 gear. Non e-torque 5.7. class 4 hitch and an intergrated trailer brake controller. I hauled an empty 7x14 enclosed cargo trailer from victoria all the way to saskatoon, loaded it up, which was probably between 6500, and 7500 pounds, and towed it back to the island. I didnt have a single issue. Going over train tracks and stuff kinda sucked. But i think it would suck for basically anything. Yeah the payload isnt great. Suspension is soft. But with weight distribution hitches, and timbrend bump stops, air bags, or upgrading your coils, you can help the ride feel better. Nothing can increase your payload sadly. But i do have a 97 ram 2500 with a 12 valve in it. And its got a payload of like 3500 pounds. So im covered either way. But im happy with my half ton. Does what it needs to.

    I am seriously considering purchasing a power wagon. After watching many videos like this one, everyone's concern is towing capacity... The motor, trans, and gears are all there right? Only thing lacking is suspension, right? To me a simple cheap fix is an aftermarket airbag set up.
    I did this on my ram 1500, and made the world of difference. When I put 60-70 lbs psi in the rear, and the truck hardly squats w 6000 lbs on it.
    Is this not possible with this unit? I've yet to see any video w someone adding this option on this truck. Curious why that is?

    • @TheGettyAdventures

      yep you nailed it. This exact driveline is rated to tow 17,000 lbs. and this truck towed the 8,200 lbs with ease, kind of shocking actually. I've towed a fair bit with my old 1500 and it really is night and day.
      now speaking of bags in the rear I'm actually speaking to a company right now and hopefully going to be doing a few videos in the spring measuring payload squat with and without added bags, as well as towing handling with bags.

    Im curious how the rear diff temp on the power wagon compares to a regular 2500 when towing the same amount of weight

      that is a wonderful question! I honestly don't even know if the rear diff has a temp sensor, if it does please let me know and I talk about it next time I do some towing or a towing comparison

    The Rebel only has rear locking dif. And the PW is a Ram product. Not Chrysler. Little difference but one that needs to be made. Lol

    I have a 2017 PW with the 6 speed, my eco light only comes on when I let off the gas in my 1500 ram it was on most time on the hwy just wondering if the 8 speed on the new PW's let's the mds work more or not.

    • @TheGettyAdventures
      @TheGettyAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      with my 1500 the MDS was on alot more like yours. with this 2022 power wagon it comes on usually when I'm coasting or cruising behind someone going slow. but when I'm driving alone on country roads over 90km/h (50 mph) it rarely comes on. I think it's because the truck needs too much power to keep rolling at the desired speed. so it keeps all 8 cylinders fueled and running. whereas the lighter 1500's can get away will less power and therefore be in 4 cylinder mode much more often.

    good video, but your 1500 had highway gears if I remember correctly 3:21 not great for towing, my Warlock has 3:92 with max towing 10280lbs, how it would compare to the power wagon? can you do a video on the different gears 3:21, 3:55, 3:92 vs your 4:10

      I had a 2017 Ram Rebel 3:92 towed a 22 foot Sled trailer loaded up 7800 pounds ish. The truck had the power but did not feel safe going up. and worse coming down. Bought a 2019 Power Wagon same trailer same route worse weather and the 2500 Power Wagon was a beast. It was in control the whole way up and down. Better to have too much truck then not enough. Or stay home.

    • @martinanne2006
      @martinanne2006 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No kidding the Power Wagon will handle it better, it's a 2500 series truck! But that was not what I was getting at , power pulls 10k max, my 1500 pulls 10280k Max, yes power wagon will do better but what about get up and go? , up hills? Keep speed? Fuel mileage? , I would love to of hooked up to that trailer just to see the difference, anyways sorry if I said anything wrong or asked a bad question just gathering information

      @@martinanne2006 Off the line i would say the Power wagon with 4:10 and a bit more power. I had the same wonder. The Rebel was harder on fuel in my case towing. I live in B.C. It all depends on were your trucking. I would not recommend max towing with a half ton truck.

    The only thing that im so Undecided is the payload. Every power wagon i punch the vin # in the ram website are low. Like 1400 to 1500. Thats low considering my 5.7 is 1700. Now the reg 6.4 hemi not power wagon is much higher. Can anyone confirm if the power wagons actually have a lower payload then regular 6.4??

    • @TheGettyAdventures
      @TheGettyAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ohhh ya. the power wagon has a much lower payload. mine has 1530 I think. the reason is because the suspension is much softer then a normal 2500. and that soft suspension is what makes the power wagon so special off road. but unfortunately it also gives the truck a very low payload.
