+TheMormonSorceress One of the many brilliant strokes in this game. Right up there with Beethoven becoming Elton John, the angel guarding Eden being flamboyantly gay, and Eve being morbidly obese. Btw in case you didn't know Don Bluth has reinvigorated the effort to get a dragon's lair movie up and running on Indiego with the Nostalgia Critic backing it. Check it out: www.indiegogo.com/projects/dragon-s-lair-returns#/story
*And Dirk, his squeaky lingerie princess wife, and their shit ton of kids, fly off into the starry night sky, and burst into star dust as they sail through time on their magic H.G. Wells time machine. Also, Alice's Through the Looking Glass was involved at one point. The End.* This game is an experience.
Don Bluth's arrogance always prevented him from hiring a decent writer. He insists on controlling everything, even when he's no good at it. Only Spielberg seems to have gotten through to him, and he burned that bridge ages ago. The guy constantly snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.
newguy90 For what? To make another Shrek movie? The guy is a genious, and his stories are consistent but touching and enganging instead of a boring digested predictable slapstick family values comedy. Ever since Pixar came along animated movies have become the KFC of cinematography. That's why kids shifted into anime in the late 90s and 2000s, american film industry suffered a tremendous loss and it wasn't untill the 80s craze with TMNT and MLP and Transformers that kids started to consume americanized crap again. Even Disney couldn't pull it off with ''Home on the Range'' people had to wait another 5 years for a good animated film to come out in the form of ''The Princess and the Frog'' and even then the traditional storytelling is yet to make a strong comeback. Kids have no tension whatsoever anymore, they don't even know what the thrill to sit through a movie actually feels like. Don is a breath of fresh air in a market that is dominated by political correctness and market display. ''The Land Before Time'' and ''The Secret of Nhim'' are two of the best animated movies I've ever seen. From a standpoint of view I don't think nothing can top Miyasaki's ''Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind'' but The Secret of Nihm is way up there. When ''The Princess and the Frog'' came out people all over the world jumped from their sits Disney relized the had unleashed a power greater than what they could handle. Someday a studio will have the guts to greenlight a movie like one of Don's films and it will be a major success.
It's not the medium, it's how good the stories are. Executives pick which story is gonna get made. Disney executives made poor choices in the last few classical animated films. It's not because of computer animation being better. You are gonna tell me "Planes" is better than "The Lion King"? Please, story is everything.
+Dominick Castro It looks like they're not gonna make it. They could have met their goal 2 times over in the first couple of days, but they decided to make the 15 minute pitch being kickstarted only available at the $75 tier and up. That and they didn't have nearly enough animation in the Kickstarter video to show off why people who didn't grow up with the game should be interested. 2 or 3 simple mistakes cost them the whole project.
+aeris bueller It's been crowdfunded with the Nostalgia Critic backing it. They're 62% complete with their funding at the time of posting. Donations are open all month. Hurry and donate!
+aeris bueller An update in case you don't already know: They've met their goal through Indiegogo and are currently Indemand, still getting donations. It's happening (well, the pitch at least).
I came here because I was one of the ones who used to win this game back in the arcades. I always used to draw a crowd and mesmerized so many kids. Great memories.
I actually like this game more than the first game for various reasons. One is that it doesn't repeat the same levels every so often (unless you forgot to collect the treasures).
***** It's all about figuring how to make games that come with animated movies. Just imagine if he included his own movies like All Dog go to Heaven and other movies he made? I wonder what he's up to these days?
The animation is an amalgam of bluth's works, even ones that didn't exist yet xD (beethoven's cat reminds me of banjo the woodpile cat's dad for some reason)
Why do I have the feeling that if princess peaches mother was in the Mario games she would be the same as this mad woman, considering....how many times has she been kidnaped
Good lordy, that hand-drawn animation is freakin' amazing. I've only played the original, and it looks like they really went all out on the sequel (though I think I still like the theme of the first game better).
God damn, everytime I watch one of his old movies or remember the dragons lair and space ace games i'm just reminded that Don Bluth is one of the most gifted animators to ever put pencil to paper.
Huge fan of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, bought lots of original cels and drawings from Bluth and crew at SDCC in the 1980's....but never played DL2 (though I have some original concept drawings). What a mess. Took everything that made DL great and did the opposite. Thanks for posting this....always wondered.
Jesus Christ, that Lizard King from DL1 and Dirk's mother from DL2 are so insanely determined to kill Dirk. They're like Terminators who will never stop, *EVER...* until you're dead.
Being a product of the 80's, I realize that the animation in this game is crazy but the flow and storyline is a mind-fuck. Mainly because COCAINE was the WEED of the 80's!! Everybody who was somebody was doing it and it showed through their animation.
Hahaha... It was actually made in 1984 but was put on hold because of the video game bust of 1983. They didn't have another arcade medium as laserdisc was considered cliche so they brought it out when they could. You can tell it's older than 1991 because of the cheesy... um... everything. LOL
I just realized the voice that's talking when no one's mouth is moving is supposed to be the voice of the Time Machine Dirk uses, I just thought it was like some kind of omnipresent narrator that randomly sometimes speaks and sometimes doesn't
He obviously loves her for her looks not her head. The amount of children they have is proof enough and she is disgustingly dramatic. But whatever its a fantasy video game. There is no need for it to be realistic.
if he loves her just for her looks, why did he marry her and have a billion kids? Secondly, it seems like the kids are well-behaved considering they only play outside and not mess up inside the house.
i like the symbolism in the end. the knight and the princess start kissing, then suddenly children start popping up. by the end they had like 10 kids. haha
All those kids and Daphne is still a babe. No wonder he'll go through anything to save her.
there is no excuse
Sakurya nothing tells us that she gave birth by human standards. After all...
It's fiction.
Sakurya was just about to right that
She proably had some triplets or something mannnnnnnnnnn
Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that the first level is to escape the wrath of your mother in-law?

Did you notice the voice of the angel was the same as Dexter from Space Ace?
Don Bluth was smoking some good shit back then.
He was taking lots of Adrenochrome.
He knew the best dealers.
Gaming History Source that's really funny man that comment made my dad lol
Your Dad & I are probably about the same age then. lol
Gaming History Source omg I am so sorry I meant day autoCorrect sucks

This game is an experience.
I just realised something:
Don Bluth Invented the quick time event.
William Spell the most brutal quick time event.
William Spell
The Grandlord of quick time.
I've learned something today by wasting time on You Tube! Take that school!
No, the quickest quick time event
The most brutal quick time events
That was a Tuesday for Dirk.
this whole game seems like one big mindfuck
And that is why the nostalgia critic featured it in his top 11 mindfucks.
You said it man
As number 9 on the list
The video looks like it's been sped up its so confusing.
Jeremy Boateng it was not sped up.
I love how the lady is complaning about Dirk needing to rescue Daphne, but is trying to kill him.
Holy crap, that lady at the start ought to just save her daughter herself!
8:07 Ganon and Ursula's love child
Geno West Amazing how accurate that is...
+Geno West I was thinking "Is that a demonic Miss Piggy?"
+deathshadow2492 No, it's Don Bluths portrayal of black magic.
I'm not the only one who finds her hot too am I?
This animation is sooooo good. It is such a shame Bluth was never able to get a great story to tell with it.
I was always frustrated by how much you had to focus in order to do well in the game, which forces you to NOT look at the amazing animation
Don Bluth's arrogance always prevented him from hiring a decent writer. He insists on controlling everything, even when he's no good at it. Only Spielberg seems to have gotten through to him, and he burned that bridge ages ago. The guy constantly snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

Kick ass animation, would love to have a dvd of this.
tom11zz884 This should have been a movie!!
there is going to be a dragon's lair move! it's on kickstarter and Don Bluth is making it
+Dominick Castro It looks like they're not gonna make it. Yes I did come here after watching the Nostalgia Critic video. I am still coming to grips with the time machine talking.
Where did they get the talking time machine anyway?
Eh, the Critic's okay.
They should have used an enchanted pumpkin, or something like that.
Me too, Nostalgia Critic: Top 11 Nostalgic Mindfucks video.
4:03 - Chubby or no, that version of Eve could get it
EXTRA THICC
Anthony Hodges
EXTRA *T H I C C**
+Phoenix Wright you right
This Eve is super cute. :)
ERECTION!!!!
Me : sustained!
I'd just stop with that cute thicc girl and save myself the loan worth of quarters it'd take to reach the end.
that's the biblical eve. you made a good call wanting to stay in the garden of eden. just stay away from the apples, aight?
Dirk's a true badass getting through all that, he could probably take on a whole army.
Dirk : the most underrated, under-appreciated, hero in gaming
I mean he did get laid a lot
Never thought id say this, but I like Don Bluths cartoons more than I like Disneys.
+Matthew Sanders Well Don Bluth did work for Disney years ago.
Lol, Im talking about his OWN movies, not his work with Disney (Yes ik)
If you haven't already, go watch Titan A.E. Probably my favorite Don Bluth film even though it was a theatrical bomb.
I remember the first time I watched The Secret of NIMH. I kept seeing areas where joystick and button moves would be placed, LOL!
Bluth simply cannot touch Disney. His movies' fatal flaw is putting clothes on every single freaking animal for no reason
8:16 oh god it's Gannon and Ursala's Love Child
This animation is so crazy and frantic that it's great all on its own.
Forget the Princess! Eve is T H I C C!
I came here because I was one of the ones who used to win this game back in the arcades. I always used to draw a crowd and mesmerized so many kids. Great memories.
04:02 That BBW is nice 😍
You know, if I got to Eden and saw Eve there - I would just stop there and........ I like the curves.
I actually like this game more than the first game for various reasons. One is that it doesn't repeat the same levels every so often (unless you forgot to collect the treasures).
And it's actually playable.
Dirk and Daphne is better than Mario and Peach.
Daphne smirks at Peach knowing she doesn't have Stockholm syndrome.
Mr. Mimik Dirk Fucks his Princess
The woes of the family man.
This and the first dragons lair had to be the silliest, goofiest, and most fun games I have ever played and I miss playing them even many years later.
4:05 death by SNU SNU!
Don Bluth must've been on shrooms when he made Dragon's Lair 2, this is a weird, weird, weird game compared to the original lol.
It does seem to go all over the place doesn't it.
he cant be on shrooms he's a Mormon. (this is actually true)
he is just that weird! and you know ISNT THAT WHY WE LOVE HIM XD
its hard to believe that this game came out in the early 80's the pacman and pole position days
***** It's all about figuring how to make games that come with animated movies. Just imagine if he included his own movies like All Dog go to Heaven and other movies he made? I wonder what he's up to these days?
*****
truely ahead of its time i remember this game at walmart was 50 cents to play in those days 50cents was alot
So if the wizard wants Daphne for himself because she's hot, why did he turn her into a giant pig monster?
That was a trap for when Dirk showed up, after all, he knew Dirk wouldn't be able to fight his wife.
Legion Beast And he would've token off the ring later..
I love how Dirk still wants to hurt enemies when he is sad
You know you're playing something awesome when your first opponent is your mother-in-law
Drugs?
With this game, *you don't even need them...*
LOL!
Yep going after Mario to find her princess and rescue her from Bowser.
Dirk is one of the most underrated heroes EVER! Look at all the s*** he has to go through EVERY SINGLE SECOND!
Good lordy, that hand-drawn animation is freakin' amazing. I've only played the original, and it looks like they really went all out on the sequel (though I think I still like the theme of the first game better).
her screams are like the sound of a chew toy
Yeah and I can hazard a good guess that Dirk the dog chewed on her proper.
Oh... my god.
This is just an endless quick time event. GAMES ARE TRAVELING BACKWARDS IN TIME!
Werewolphe endless, until you get to the end
That was quite possibly the most intense 10-minute video game I have ever seen
What drugs was Don Bluth on when he made this?
All the drugs. All the fucking drugs.
Jonthan Kent You people and your drug reference never seize to amaze me.
Jonthan Kent The drugs he was takin' was nothing compared to ol' Shigeru Miyamoto. A raccoon suit that turns Mario to a statue is an example.
вєηנαмιℓℓιση Reference to tanuki statues. Raccoon spirits from japanese mythology.
Jonthan Kent Dirk : Come on kids, lets ruin history.
+Jonthan Kent No more drug references in this than there were in Alice in Wonderland which came out decades before the drug craze of the 60's.
5:52-6:08 I don't know why, but there's something about this scene that makes it beautiful
Dirk has 12 Kids? What a lucky guy.
3:09 The Cheshire cat is my favorite Disney character.
(Not that this is a Disney thing.....)
cocaine is one helluva drug
Drugs are one hell of a drug.
Always liked the charm of these games. Something about the animation just seems so neat to watch.
05:49 OMG Elton John,I'm your biggest fan!
+Sandra Nedelcheva To be honest, I thought it was Liberace. XD
The first level was pretty hilarious, not many games start out with the hero being chased by their mother-in-law to make them save her daughter.
dirk legitimately WENT THROUGH SOME SHIT for this chick
This whole game is just one big mindfuck O.o
anyone else think that chubby blonde valkyrie girl was hot, or just me?
+TheLastHylianTitan A bit
Yes, she is very sexy for me!
hell yea man lol
It was a chubby version of Daphne and she had the same voice thats why
I guess thats one reason to like fat chicks.
9:52 always gets me lmfao.DAFNE!!!!!!.Chill out mom go back and eat your bacon and eggs.
It looks and sounds disneyish.Great game wish it was longer and had more moves.
God damn, everytime I watch one of his old movies or remember the dragons lair and space ace games i'm just reminded that Don Bluth is one of the most gifted animators to ever put pencil to paper.
1:12 Dirk a Daring with an English Longsword couldn't defeat a Scottish Snake, yet a fat viking mother in law can defeat with, with a rolling pin.
Scenery of this game is simply beautiful!
100% with flashes to help
Great run, you have to have godly reflexes to do this on one quarter, or rather four. PEACE.
Huge fan of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, bought lots of original cels and drawings from Bluth and crew at SDCC in the 1980's....but never played DL2 (though I have some original concept drawings). +docmacyou Too bad they didn't do an Aladdin reference
thank you sooo much for posting this.
LETS DO THE TIME WARP AGAAAAIN!!!
You know it's a classic 90's arcade game when it has that sweet Korg M1 music score :D
chubby eve is my fucking waifu
You better find my daughter or ELSE!!
so if you knock out Dirk the Daring with a rolling pin, Who’s gonna rescue Daphne?
You're never safe, and you'll never will be.
Jesus Christ, that Lizard King from DL1 and Dirk's mother from DL2 are so insanely determined to kill Dirk. They're like Terminators who will never stop, *EVER...* until you're dead.
Waay better than the first!
“HOW DO YOU DO GOOD SIR KNIGHT. CARE TO JOIN US IN A FIGHT”!!! love that part
0:08 Or we can run from this crazy woman and find the answer ourselves.
"Congratulations, you are a winner."
Damn straight.
it's at 4:04
thank me -later- *now*
Jeremy Boateng thank you.
i thought that mother in law is going to chase dirk from the start to the ending credits.
4:03
THICC
Thanks now I can leave the video
That's Eve.
never a dull moment in this game is there

amparcade Oh look, another moron who thinks that drugs are the gateway to creativity. I can think of things as bizarre as this on the toilet.
Saving Princess Daphne is totally worth all the hell you go through in these games.
dirk and daphne were gettin busy so many damn kids
I just realized the voice that's talking when no one's mouth is moving is supposed to be the voice of the Time Machine Dirk uses, I just thought it was like some kind of omnipresent narrator that randomly sometimes speaks and sometimes doesn't
5:11 we finally found i m meen!
that's Beethoven! not.....*turns into Elton John* WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?
***** it's mean!
monterrang1 it's a tap dancing crab demon!
***** dat's a true nightmare...
Absolutely love his style of animation, particularly for faces - the most iconic thing about him..
4:39 That's just how the economy is going to fall after January.
Unless Donald Trump becomes president.
congratulations for the person that finished that game I never cold done that .
Cocaine is one hell of a drug.
This should have been made into a movie!
4:07 EXTRA THICC!
7:38 When you swipe right on timder
It is way more Space Ace than Dragon's Lair
Buddy got some hella smash between the first and last game. 😲
Nicely done. 😅
She looks great for having so many kids. 😮
This is the most confusing thing I've ever watched in my life
I'm extremely surprised nobody said "T H I C C" in the comments yet.
This one looks IMPOSSIBLE.
They make you play through the happy ending. I don't know if that's awesome or awful. It's awesful.
He obviously loves her for her looks not her head. The amount of children they have is proof enough and she is disgustingly dramatic. But whatever its a fantasy video game. There is no need for it to be realistic.
your wording made me laugh xD
I'm sure he doesn't like her head or else she would've swallowed a few of their children
KiwiBumbleBee I see what you did there.
if he loves her just for her looks, why did he marry her and have a billion kids? Secondly, it seems like the kids are well-behaved considering they only play outside and not mess up inside the house.
I didn´t get it
I love how Dirk just casually swats a bat when he's kissing Daphne.
4:04 f uck
i like the symbolism in the end. the knight and the princess start kissing, then suddenly children start popping up. by the end they had like 10 kids. haha
It's so awfully produced it looks like the kind of nightmare you can have when you have high fever.
Well that’s an interpretation of how adam and eve got kicked out of Eden
