    That's one of the essential gypsy-guitar-techniques. You come out with a double-down when playing triplets like this. You'd consider a strict alternate motion to be faster. But some players (Joscho included) gain exceptional high speed with the douple-down. Plus, you have a more dynamic expression because you always hit the 1 note stronger than 2 and 3. Thanks for posting!

    I realized how you're hooking your pinky finger under the strings to give more stability AND at the same time mute strings you're not currently picking. It feels weird for me to do that but I'll try this exercise. More right hand focus appreciated, there is so much to it that often doesn't meet the eye but it's crucial for developing accuracy, speed and clarity.

    Love your music and all that you do. WOW! You the man! I am senior and well I love jamming. I know just enough to have a lot of bad habits. Then again I play alone and loud on electric in my house. I may buy an acoustic. I have time to enjoy listening. I have no discipline. So becoming an expert is not my goal. I enjoy improving although experts would probably wonder what I am doing if they heard and saw me. I am a fan of blues and bluesjazz styles for jamming. I adore listening to Gypsy swing music and the many interpretations. Your first Hey Joe is unequaled. The Black Orpheus with Skollelli is delectable.

    4:42 I think the one editing this might have misplaced that second last red dot. He's designating the strings beforehand, a pattern that goes like so: e' - g - b - d - g - A - d - E (two stings up, one back, repeat). Just in case anyone got confused by that as I did

    So the last note is a downward stroke and the next string is struck as a downward also..no coming up on to next string with an upward stroke ...wasted motion to me ..not economical picking..i don't know how the gypsy jazz guy's are so fast ..baffling lol

    Thank you Joscho for a great and focused lesson! When picking at higher speeds, do you still do strict rest strokes, or do you feel that you use the other string as a “psychological rest stroke”, continually thinking about the other string so that you stay loose in the right hand? Cheers and best wishes for 2021, Jz

    • @gretchenbockenfeld
      @gretchenbockenfeld 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheLochs in gypsy jazz guitar you „always“ play a downstroke when you change strings, im not sure but i think i read it has do do with the volume or the sound, or both... but anways its a gypsy jazz guitar „rule“.

    Could you explain to me Why you start with a down stoke on every string, that seems very uneconomical to me, thanks

    • @heiah
      @heiah 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because using your whole arm movement to let your hand drop into the string will give you a distinguished accentuation on the downbeat of the triplet. Accentuation over economy of motion on this one here

    • @TheLochs
      @TheLochs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@heiah So its strictly an accent technique?

    • @heiah
      @heiah 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheLochs it’s a technique that evolved from concentrating on rhythmic convenience, first somebody just does something that works for his needs, then 100 people follow and ask how to do it and make it a theory😁 think of it like this: Gypsy Jazz is very Swing rhythm based, swung 8th notes, you get what I mean. So having 3 note per string Arpeggio patterns was just very convenient to play going along with that down stroke technique, that’s why sweeping is very natural to do with that mindset in mind as well
