Hey Dave, I used to weigh 265 pounds and was chubby my entire life, even though I wasn't that big for my height. I still faced criticism from guys and girls growing up. Bullying can mess you up severely, so I want you to know that I do have an idea of what you’re going through. Last summer, I finally hit 180 pounds. I still go through ups and downs, but if I had to give you any solid advice, it would be to prioritize calories in and calories out. It may seem boring, but read the label on everything you put into your body. Did you know one tablespoon of olive oil is around 120 calories? Foods that are considered "healthy" can be calorie-dense and contribute to weight gain. Think of your daily calorie intake like a budget. You can probably only "spend" around 2600-2700 calories; otherwise, your body will store the excess as fat. This number will go down as you get leaner. Don’t stop eating your favorite foods; just find alternatives. If you love pizza, don’t buy it from food chains. Instead, try to make it yourself or buy a low-calorie version from the grocery store. Many foods can be moderate in calories and still very filling. For example, you can munch on popcorn all day, but the high amounts of oil can ruin it. Use oils in moderation to just give it flavor. Look into low-calorie sauces like buffalo and zero-sugar barbecue sauces, and drinks like Dr. Pepper Zero. These small adjustments will do more for you than any amount of time spent at the gym. Lastly, working out is important to avoid excess loose skin and weakness when you lose weight. Don’t go super hard; just go to the gym and do anything you find fun or slightly challenging. You don’t have to suffer to achieve your fitness goals. It’s not a race; it’s a marathon.
