These were DELICIOUS! I made them for the kids' visit earlier this week. Oh my stars they were good. It made 18 really large tea buns - I think probably about as large as yours. I packed up a ziploc bag to take to the kiddo that wasn't able to make it for the dinner and tucked it in his freezer for a surprise :) It was weirdly hard to find mandarin orange slices so I'm going to stock up the next time I see them - these biscuits need to be made again. And again. And then - again! Thank you so much for such an easy and guest-worthy recipe!!! Cheers from Ontario :)

Hi Bonita. I Love Tea Cakes..especially Lemon. This is almost the same except with Mandarin Oranges and Coconut which I Love too. I like mine a little thinner and can just taste them now. I will be making this soon but right now I have four bananas and I need to make Banana Nut Bread. The recipe makes two loaves. It calls for 1cup nuts (optional). I use half cup Walnut and half cup of Pecans mixed together. I fill one loaf pan with half the mixture and then for the other pan I add chocolate chips to the remaining batter. I love Variety. Thank You Bonita for this recipe on Mandarin Orange Buns. Another one to add to my recipe box! Much Love from Texas.

Hi Bonita, Love what you do. Have had much success with the canning recipes you have shared. My family and I enjoy scone type breads for breakfast and we also like mandarin and coconut. So had to type them. It was amazing out of the oven but the next day the baking powder was so over powering we had to throw them away. I am not defeated though...was wondering if I back off the baking powder to 1 Table spoon if that would be would help the taste without ruining the texture?

@@bonitaskitchen thank you for resonding. I did cut it back by 1/2 table spoon I also shifted. Found that the power was clumpy. So will be buying fresh baking powder. But cutting a bit and shifting it seemed to do the trick! Love these cakes...Thank you for sharing.

@@morgancalvi6675 Do the same with the pineapple tea buns. When you start mixing add the liquid in gradually just to make sure the texture is not to wet! It may be ok but it's better to be sure and then you don't have to adjust to other ingredient's. Enjoy :) Bonita

Professional tip: if you break the egg on a flat surface, you will avoid shards of shells getting into your food.

      Ingredients for Mandarin Tea Buns:
      4 cups sifted all-propose flour
      1 cup butter or margarine
      1 cup unsweetened fine coconut
      1/2 cup white sugar
      2 tbsp baking powder
      2 large eggs, beaten
1 - 10oz can, mandarin oranges and juice
      Method:
In a large bowl add sifted flour and butter, and crumble with “ clean hands” until the mixture is combined.
Then add unsweetened coconut, sugar and baking powder.
After pour can of mandarin’s in a bowl and chop in small pieces, then add to flour mixture.
Crack your eggs in a bowl to check them and beat together, then pour in with flour mixture.
Now mix all ingredients together with spoon or kitchen aid with hook, until all combined.
You will need to cookie sheet with a piece of parchment paper, scoop out about 1/4 cup of mixture and have them 1 inch apart on cookie sheet.
Have all tea buns the same size, small, medium or large, then bake in a 350ºF pre-heated oven for 15 to 20 minutes depending on your oven.
Cool on wire rack or serve hot with a nice cup of tea.
      Bonita’s Tips:
Add more sugar if you wish it sweeter, or use a low sugar.
If using a kitchen aid only you hook to pulse the dough.
