I love how they shadow drop the of "THE LAND OF THE LIVING DEAD" a whole level before you get there, purposely dropping you in a murky swap before hand, giving you time to imagine a more evil and scary world, like the cave of bad dreams. but your expectations are subverted when you arrive, and its easily the most beautiful land in the series up to that point. but it makes sense, the land of the afterlife should be peaceful and avoid of fear and harm, a place of rest for those who lived long or didn't last. the land of the living dead is the past ones place to rest in peace.
"Ah, the Land of the Livid Dead, at last! In any case, it’s nice and calm here. And here I was expecting a scary place filled with terrifying ghouls. Oh, silly Globox."
Those quotes from the ghost-teensies used to make me sad because I thought they didn't know they were ghosts and their kids and dogs are probably old or dead too
The version of the land of the livid dead in this game is probably still my favorite to this day. The world was beautiful and peaceful when not fighting hoodlums. Much like how the spirit world should be represented. I find serene spirit worlds to be lovely depictions in video games and hoodlum havoc nailed it.
I love the Origins lvl but I'm almost disappointed they called it Land of the livid dead cause this memory is too pure in my mind. Will always remember how I felt chill when I was 7 playing this lvl. But Origin's one is a very fair and cool challenge, and the game in general is probably my favorite platformer ever
This is what I think Origins and legends are sadly missing. While thery're both excellent 2 D Plattformers there isn't much in terms of mysterious dream like Landscapes with soothing melodies to accompany you as you explore them. Yes Rayman has always been goofy and cartoony, but there used to be a better balance. But now EVERYTHING is just goofy and cartoony. I don't know if this is because the rabbits took priority over Rayman for so long but I really miss having something like THIS in my Rayman games.
I couldn't have said it better myself. I give Origins and Legends credit for finally, finally, FINALLY getting rid of those shitstained-goddamn-motherfucking-asswipe rabbits! But while I find Origins enjoyable enough(mind you I haven't played Legends), I couldn't help but feel there's something missing. Your comment made me realize what it was! That is the reason why I consider Origins a reboot of the franchise even though it's treated as a sequel.
I think Origins is still kinda like this. Only gourmand land and mecha city strayed away from this soothing mysterious world experience. Legends went full on goofy though.
This game was just the perfect 3D platform game for a kid, I remember to play it over and over again in my old computer when I was in school age. Now that I'm an adult I wouldn't be embarrased of playing a "Rayman 4", if Ubisoft would do it. I think they should consider it, kids would love it! And a lot of adults as me and others could buy it and play, at least to remember the Rayman 2 and 3 days of playing.
I would love another Rayman game, but let's be real, it would be hard to top Rayman 3 (especially the soundtrack). I also feel like game devs get sort of lazy with games these days and many franchises get overdone just to have something to put out for the people. Although somehow, by not making another Rayman game, they make the old ones even better.
I miss the days where the Rayman games were adventure based instead of the cartoon versions now. It was so nice to just run through the levels not knowing what to expect and exploring acompanied by this type music.
strange, I feel so much positive energy when I hear this & find myself in it ... for me back then it was just a game that I just played over and over - but 18 years later I realize how valuable it was. when i hear soundtracks i don't just remember the game but the whole day-to-day life of my childhood
@@Rutious4 I'm referring to the overall cartoonish, not-entirely-serious tone of this game. Legend of Zelda games usually have those elements, but their overall stories are more serious.
@@DrawtoonzStudio if you think rayman its always cartoony then youre only remembering origins and legends. The trilogy was always like this hell rayman 2 is a world on the brink of annahilation
@@jasonlobo2350 I just mean that the overall world has a less serious vibe to it. Like, the villains from Rayman 2 are robot pirates whose leader is named Razorbeard, meanwhile the Spirit of the World wears a giant, colorful hat. The villain of the third game is an evil fuzzy ball who spends most of it cracking wise as he's trapped inside your best friend, a giant blue froglike creature. Stuff that would feel right at home in a Saturday morning cartoon. I'm not denying that the Rayman games have their dark moments or themes. My initial point was that, at face value, Rayman doesn't seem like the kind of game that would lend itself to unironically beautiful music, and yet...it's a game with some unironically beautiful music. And don't worry, Rayman is one of my favorite game franchises, so none of what I'm saying is meant to be a diss towards it.
I guess the reason why the "Land of the Livid Dead"'s theme is so calm, serene and peaceful is because the "Livid Dead" period has already ended by the time Rayman arrived and it only keeps its name from the legend past. It's really sad how the Teensies music in Rayman, for as funny as it sounds, is so annoying to some that the world would be more peaceful without it.

this comment is lovely but I am highly suspecting you got lost in the music for a moment there, because this sounds like a very deep thought

This is where Rayman lives now
Peace and tranquility.

What a tuneeeee. I used to look into the distance of this level and imagine what was out there in the rayman 3 world...
me too! I got strangely melancholic. It made me wish I could explore more of this realm.
All Rayman music was the best but everyone knows this hit different. This one had a weird special feeling

Ohh, I have never considered that point of view :o
The first Rayman I think had the perfect mix of cartoony and goofy style but with colorful landscapes and a beautiful soundtrack.
