- The 2016 Renault KWID has been a conquest car for Renault with over 80,000 units sold in under a year. In order to continue its ascent on the market, Renault has launched the KWID with a new, 1.0 L engine which has the best-in-class power to weight ratio of 97 bhp per tonne. With more power and refinements under the hood, is the new KWID on the block a winner?

Renault kwid 1.0 is better or Alto k10 ? Which one I should go for for daily commute n for highway rides to...
Sir, how many distance it can run at a stretch without any rest as many parts of its engine is made up of hard fibres so that it will be heated.
Changes expected for the 1.0 ltr are 1> a bigger R14 wheel with 4 bolts, 2> ABS-EBD, (Instd of touch screen infotainment) 3> door mounted power window switches, 4> Dual Airbag as standard. At-least an option they could have offered.

This car here in Brazil will have ABS and dual side airbags because the government requires automakers to do so. It will be available next week and I'm looking forward to it, I hope it is good!

please make comparison to Alto K10 1000cc with this car - also Hyudai EON - thier comfort on top speeds . How they behave at the top speeds at high way long journeys - pot holes , their pick up and gear box comparison , fast turning stability , safe top speeds , those comparisons on maintainance charges and how good and how many are service stations available for those to navigate , Resale values on single handed usage . thanks in advance .

A very good first drive report! and you are absolutely right, its a SHAME they aren't even offering ABS and passenger airbag as options; if a few customers are ready to pay more for them, then what is the problem in offering them as options, Renault??

when will Renault kwid racer with AMT/CVT with two air bags and ABS and EBD.
carmakers in India are taking safety for granted this car has scored 0 in euro NCap that too thrice, I don't think Renault has worked on it. All these carmakers are serving other countries as priority but we're told that this is localization, Maruti Suzuki makes a car in 8 minutes, still we get a waiting period of 8 months on baleno. There's no waiting time for foreign market but for us only, in fact there's a waiting period of 3 months for this Kwid

Informed review by power drift. I test drove the Kwid 1L in Noida and observed certain anomalies. The rear view mirror is small with restricted view which does not match the other features provided. There are no overhead grab rail in front passenger side which is a tad uncomfortable during exit. The rear passenger needs to lower the head before exiting without injury. One cannot slide out from the sitting position. The absence of interior adjustment of view in the ORVM is discomforting. The other features are satisfactory.

Well, I had a tough time climbing the hill while going to Ooty in my Polo 1.2L Petrol with 4 people. This will definitely have some problem too.
Polo petrol (1020kg kerb weight) is 350kg heavier than a kwid. Thats already 4 XL size adults more.
Kwid 1.0 has significantly better power/torque to weight than the Polo 1.2L. Unlikely to struggle
Ratnakar Soren petrol cars have less low end torque , i feel that polo petrol is underpowered for a car of its weight, lastly the climb to ooty from bandipur is too extreme. I have never seen such an extreme climb, one can smell the clutch of incoming cars

Hello +PowerDrift, the milage mentioned at 5:20 is with AC or without? If mixed, what percentage of AC roughly was used?
with A/C and it was on around 80% of the drive!

I am thinking to buy this car, can you please let me know about the complaints like:
1.Water leakage inside to front foot rest area through windscreen (Heavy rain and washing)?
2. Drope in mileage like from 23 or the claimed one for RK1.0. to 13 - 14?
3. Can low weight of car and 3 wheel nuts cause an invitation to an accident?
4. Is Maruti k10 is better to buy over this?
5. What about the breaks of cars? I heard there is something wrong with it too.
Please reply me as soon as possible before I book it. Please! I am very confused....
Hey Rahul find my answers below,
1. I can't comment on that since we didn't experience rain and neither have I heard any complaints about that problem specifically,
2. I averaged aroun 18 kmpl, claimed efficiency is very hard to achieve as those are under strict test conditions, for me, the A/C was on, I drove in the city and the highway,
3. The fact that the car doesn't come with ABS is a bit of concern however, I don't think the 3 bolts and low weight increases the risk of an accident.
4. Maurti K10 is definitely a better handling car, however I feel the Kwid
is more comfortable, it's easier to get in and out of, however, do test
drive both!
5. The brakes are a bit weak, I did notice a little fade towards the end of the drive but in full disclosure, the car was really put through it's paces through the shoot. Like I said in the first drive, I wish it did have ABS

the AC was adequate however, the humid, Chennai heat wasn't helping. Compared to the Alto k-10 or Wagon-R, and this is a subjective answer really, I think it was about on-par.
+PowerDrift I have heard that there is a problem of water seeping into the car during rains or car wash. Can you confirm how authentic is the claim.

I thought the kwid will be a perfect replacement for my 1.2 March (based on pictures and that 7-inch headunit tho) but then again, my march had headrests, climate control, ABS EBD, and airbag. soooo, yeah the march will stay.

haha :D aw man, tiago is a great city car, k10 is a super drivers car, and kwid is definitely the most practical. Not completely sold on the Celerio but, will try to do a video for the same! :D

u can wait for PD's reply but in all case tiago is definitely a better option in terms of build quality n features offered.
it's a good car... but Im kind of worried about the overall after sale service all around India as compared to Maruti Suzuki products..
It definitely needed ABS. Also needed to know if we can drive uphill with the AC switched on. I have an Alto 800, is is advisable to shift to the Kwid 1.0
To answer all that, we shall love to have the KWID at our HQ for an extensive review :)

Hey Abhishek, the AC performed adequately, there were instances where I noticed a little drop and the cooling wasn't amazing but, for what the car is, I'd say it did a good job. Plus, the chennai heat is pretty unforgiving ;)

what differents between CVT OR AMT.
Hey buddy, CVT stands for Continuously Variable Transmissions, it's basically the same transmission on an activa. AMT stands for Automated Manual Transmission which is essentially a manual gearbox with an automatic shifter. It uses this device that shifts gears for you, it's cheaper than running a typical automatic gearbox setup.

This is a great car no doubt. However, I wouldn't buy it. I agree with you guys that the car should have ABS, and, as per me, at least two airbags. I have a young child and for me safety is paramount. Understandable that this is a budget car and hence Renault has chosen not to add these features. Would have been nice if it was offered as an option at least. I wouldn't mind paying extra for the added safety.
Excellent review, by the way. You know that part where the presenter stuck the car in 3rd gear and took it from 30 kph to 100 kph. That sort of thing is what sets you guys apart. Those little details.

With 2.5 lacs, I seriously doubt the build quality of small cars specially in India with the latest news that even cars like baleno and Hyundai range failed and scored 0 in the safety ratings. I don't know which car is the most solid and trustable. I have a Honda city and it too has its fare share of issues, mainly the rattling noise of interior plastics and not so comfortable seats for long journeys.

where do you find 0 rating for baleno. it is having NCAP rating of 3 (its same car available in India without side curtain airbag).
BTW Entry level car customers have different requirements. most of them are those who want to switch from 2 wheels to 4 wheels and cost is the key spec. So yes build quality is not at par but still very decent.

Amazingly the same cars are exported out of India have better ratings. VW Polo also fails the test.
+phoenix If I go by your words then it means the life of a person who just switched from a 2 to 4 wheeler is far less important than a person already driving a 4 wheeler. I mean come on, all people have a the right to own a decently safe car and not buy cars within 4 5 lacs which have 0 NCAP ratings. I wish car channels review automobiles on the basis of their safety as well just like 5th Gear and Top Gear used to do.
+Buzz Riding600 VW Polo scored 0 in the test. Eye opener to Indians. Same Polo sold in European markets is one of the safest.
