Great video SP! Keep in mind Lofi mode on the 303 puts the sample in mono while the MK2 sample in this video is in stereo. Also I think crusher > Lofi on the MK2. Also also I’d love to see a 202-MK2 comparison video. Cheers!
If your over particular about your sounds like many users are I think you can notice. But I defo think nostalgia often clouds judgement. It’s almost like Coca Cola an Pepsi some people can taste the citrus in Pepsi others can’t. So long as your sounds ain’t coming off like cheapy rola cola 😆 it’s a win win on either device
Excellent video. I think this is the first time I've heard the sound of the SP 303 through headphones. And it's interesting to note that the SP 404 MK2 can come close to that sound in some ways. Compared to the SP 303 Vinyl Sim, the SP 505 has a similar sound, which in turn is very different from the sound of the 404 Vinyl Sim.
I find recording vinyl straight into to my 303 using the isolator to boost a little and lofi gives a really warm sound. Then the vinyl sim is great but I prefer the cassette sim on the mk2.
a good parametric eq and taperecording would make it closer but never identical , wasnt that charmed by the 404 mk1 ( the one with compact flash cards)
Yep the sequencer on the Sampletrak is straight garbage lol. But in other ways it was WAY ahead of the SPs. You could resample a pattern to a pad which for a budget sampler from 1998 was pretty impressive
This. Honestly, it's a bit painstaking and a workflow killer for many...but I like sampling into Audacity on my PC before bringing it into the mk2. It's very easy to get the 303 vibe and even all flavors of the 202.
also worth noting the 303 recorded in mono while the sample on the 404mk2 is in its original stereo form.
I was literally about to post this lol
I also was about to post this
I really hope they add different sample grades in a future update
💯!

Yeah didn’t know about that. That could have made quite a big difference. I definitely prefer crusher too! 🙌
Great idea for a video!!! Not even finished and I’m pumped regardless of the outcome.
that 303 clip gives me silent hill 1 vibes man
Wow, just tried lofi + crusher combo. Sounds cool.

The MK2 does a very good job, I'm really impressed! Its amazing the 303 can do it with so little effort though! Thanks for tuning in 🙌
The samplers are of 2 different specs. The 303 standard rate is 16 bits 44.1khz, the 404 MK2 is 16 bit 48kHz.. So it is a bit richer sounding.
Absolutely! There will always be a subtle difference in the sound no matter how hard you try

I also really dig the isolator on the 303! It can really transform samples in quite a natural sounding way
Maybe use a cassette sim after the crusher/isolator to give body to the sample, mk2 sample sounds way thinner than 303’s
Good shout yeah!

You motivated me to try and make a bus favorite with bit crusher and lofi. I feel like verb Is slightly there
Nice! That would be a dope combo
@@spvidz keep up the good work man you post way more frequently then most!
Cool video. I wonder how the 303 compares to the Zoom Sampletrak. Love the pitching on that device but the sequencer leaves a bit to be desired
Always wanted to try one of those but think my current collection gets me close enough!

303 uses rdac, that's what gives it that sound.
Thanks, been waiting for that comment! 🙌
@@spvidz No worries mate, I'm an old sp-forums head. Love your channel!

It's kinda hard to judge when one sample is fully stereo and the other one is almost entirely mono
303 chorus effect
dope
🙌
You can’t emulate it, and who wants to go through all these steps for a 2 minute beat.
Just buy one folks.
Once you have the buss fx set...you can save that config. It's worth the trouble.
@@tothefxckinmoon4540 I already own both.
