Technically, there *was* a way to get back lost Exodia pieces at this time -- it was just *incredibly* janky. Monster Reborn a piece, flip up a Hane-Hane, bounce your piece.
Incidentally, I recently read the manga chapters the Seeker duel happened in. It's quite a bit shorter than in the anime. Yugi uses Lightforce Sword - and its effect didn't simply remove the card from his hand for a few turns. It outright summoned one of the limbs to the field, and then Yugi used Chain Destruction on it to deal with the rest. I prefer the anime's take, as it shows Yugi psyching him out, which is way more narratively satisfying and highlights why he is the King of Games.
The anime's job is to sell cards, so it has to adhere to the physical TCG ruling as close as possible (which is why it leads to things like Ragnarok in the Marik duel being a one off DM+DMG field nuke card, rather than being just the special ability of the two monsters when both are summoned), whereas the game in the manga is a MTG shout out with a healthy amount of influence from TTRPG

The best example I can give of it working on me specifically is the Raid Raptor first episode where Kurosaki drops Rise Falcon and gets it to some absurd attack value and one shots 3 people at once. They kinda hit the "wall" in both other histories. They reached the point were all decks start to be extremely consistent (for competitive, extremely bricky for jank) and combo heavy and that means A LOT more of background preparation work which they were already struggling to complete for less combo heavy competitive decks (how they opted for the monster based spellbook over the actual definitive version caus eit was easier to play but way weaker or their struggle in the nekroz mirrors, just to write the first two examples to the top of my mind).

I can easily get back into Goat, Edison, and Dragon Ruler which I've played a good amount of each of. I look at YGO since Pendulums were introduced (when I quit) and I think it just looks awful. Each turn takes forever, I don't know what any of the decks/cards do without extensively looking it up, and (as you pointed out), each deck takes a TON of time to master since the lines take forever and stretch out forever due to how much text each card has. I struggle to watch any of Cimo's series once he hits the Pendulum era. It just gets far less fun. I'm not sure if that's just me or if that's just how modern YGO is. I'm not a crusty "old school only" player; I genuinely think Syncho and XYZ were great mechanics, but Pendulums and Links just seem absolutely horrid ideas.

It is actually a big hit. It hurts a lot of lines in the fire king variant+ makes heatsoul access difficult. Hitting synchros hurts the pure variant - Dis Pater is just not as good - i think as the format evolves, snake eyes will be quite a bit weaker and we’ll see the impact of those hits. Also GC discard Witch + Sangan is only a +2. You start with 3 cards, end with 5. It’s +2.
I love how konami just goes with whatever players do. They dont go "actually, this card works this way, youre using it wrong", they go "oh i guess it works like that, our error, we dont know how our game works"
I think Cimo should have stuck to Exodia for the content. The main point of this episode was to see the impact the changes had on the Exodia deck, so smokescreening into essentialy a goodstuff mirror match wasnt the best decision. The viewer experience should be prioritized over getting a win, this isn't a tryhard series to begin with.
I think he should have swapped back for game 3 but demonstrating "oh hey you can just side into a fully functional beatdown deck because there are only 15 playable cards" is pretty integral to the format IMO

The erratum of Sangan and Witch is after the banlist but before or at the same time as the Magic Ruler (The Valuable Book 2 released on the same day contained the errated text). So the original version never coexisted with Painful Choice. However the errated version is first printed only in Metal Raiders, Feb 22, 2001 so those who don't know the erratum before may have played the original version with PAINFUL CHOICE which is more than terrible than anything.
The original errata for sagan in Japanese does not mention it as too hit the field when you google translate. So it only happen in OCG, but no in TCG. So for example if someone return to kaiba format the one before goat format only in OCG sagan and witch of the black forest would trigger by only being send to the graveyard they don't have to hit the field. However TCG A and TCG E they would still have to be send from the field to the graveyard in the kaiba format.

@@adammorin2955 lol no I play OCG. Last Will always summons 1 monster per activation since it's release. Cards that has their effect lingers back then are noted like Swords of revealing light or continuous traps as a game mechanic.
