The part with you putting it back in the bowl after you glued the slate on was priceless 😅! The quick look of shear panic then relief... I watched that part like 5x! It's kind of the story of my fish keeping journey.... lol, sometimes it's just panic! Rummynose tetra don't fair we'll being sucked into a tube... 😢 then shot back into the aquarium because you don't know why the motor stopped running on your water pump... Panic😮😢😢😢
Love the idea of a breeding room! Lots of tanks for raising babies sounds like fun. Plus, it’s another reason to use more of that honeycomb wood that turned out so fantastic.
Just beautiful. The wood idea was genius and those are shrimp I’ve not seen before. Thank you Matt, I’m learning more with every video. Keep them coming xx
I love the homemade tree stump! That is a great idea, and it looks really perfect. I have most of the supplies to set up a jar (it's a big jar) but I just haven't got around to it. Now I want to get a pack of honeycomb wood and try to make my own tree stump.
for filling in those tight areas with substrate, you could get a large mouthed funnel and pour from the bag instead of having to scoop in little capfuls at a time.
Finally starting the hobby seems not too far away. I got my wife hyped for it as well. We want to start with a small tank for shrimp and a few snails to gain experience in order to move on to a bigger tank for fish a few months or a year later :) Thank you for your videos. I feel prepared for what is to come.
I started the hobby in the last year the same way! These videos are so helpful and inclusive 😊 really helped me to feel knowledgeable enough to feel like I was entering the hobby responsibly
Love these little shrimp bouls. It was actuall a combo of you and md that got me into shrimp. Been loving it so far with my neo's and about to take the plunge into caroinas, wish me luck. My opinion... Shrimp or Breeding tanks would work lovely in the old room.
Looking great, Matt! Happy New Year to you and yours from Indiana. Miss you and MD collaborating, but it looks like you both are doing awesome regardless. Congrats, man.
Shrimp & betta room sounds awesome! Maybe a general nano tank/fish room, the kind of aquascapes a regular person could keep on a desk/office, in the kitchen or living room & bigger more specialist tanks/fish in the garage.
Nice idea with the shrimproom. Im working on three fluval flex 34l with neocaridinas and 1kind of fish. Basicaly like three biomes. Forest, desert and mountains
Great video. Love the idea of "small" tanks. I have a 6 large tanks and love them, however, I have found recently that I am interested in reusing my old 5 & 10 gal tanks that I started with.
I saw a tree stump just like that one right next to a trench in Ukraine which had been absolutely demolished by artillery fire. It didn't have the zip ties on it, or the pieces of slate glued to it, and further, it still had an extensive root system on it, but in all other ways it was just like that. I suggest that if anyone wants a tree stump like that, that they check the tree lines in Ukraine, and if you can't find one there, just get someone to do artillery practice on a tree. You'll be amazed at the results! Regarding the room you currently have most of your tanks in, I'd remove the tanks, make it into a bed sitting room, and stock it with chimpanzees. Why? Because it seemed like the most ridiculous thing I could say. On the serious side, making it into a breeding room seems like a really good choice. The other possibility is that you could use one of them for cold water species, and the other for warm water species. Another possibility, if you want to get into something which might need different parameters, is that one could be a fresh water aquarium room, and the other could be a salt water aquarium room. I realize that you haven't done much in the way of salt water aquariums, but might this be a time to start? If you tire of doing things under the water, you could choose instead to do something above the water, and turn the room into a pigeon loft, or an aviary. When the droppings get to be a bit much, your wife will probably kill you, but until then, it can be just as colourful and fun. Can you imagine scaping the room then letting loose a bunch of finches, button quails, and a parrot of two. Whatever you do with it, I'm sure it will be better than anything I can come up with. Thanks for all the hard work you do in presenting us with your videos.
Yes!! 👏 please do some scaled shrimp breeding tanks! And the betta would go really well too, like a nano tanks room! Can experiment with breeding different shrimp colours etc. then the garage can be the big community scaped tanks
Enjoyed watching you make the shrimp bowl ecosystem. I am liking the wood arrangement it is very creative. It a great idea for other types of small lengths of wood. You could glue the wood using the zip straps as a clamp, until the wood has cemented together. Those shrimp have a beautiful coloration and make a great choice for the ecosystem of the bowl. However have a question what model is the oase filter is the one you have on that bowl? How many liters/gallon is the bowl? Like the light as well do you know if all these pieces are available in the USA?
Thank you so so much! The filter is a filtosmart 60 that does up to 60 litres the bowl is roughly around 10 liters. As for the light ONF is a global brand so I would think they would have an American distributor. Maybe have a look over on the ONF led website.
Looks great! One question: what water do you keep them in? I keep Red Galaxy and some Galaxy Tiger Metallic but I keep them in RO water. If you keep them in tap water an update would be amazing. I know Caridina don t like tap water so I m really curious how they re doing. PS. Is the intake of the filter covered? If they ll have babies they will get sucked up in the filter.
Yeah these are in tap water, we are very lucky to have decent parameters straight out the tap for keeping them. It probably could be slightly more optimal but that will come when I sort the breeding room out. Yeah a fine sponge got popped over that just in case.
@FishShopMatt I love it. If you could mix some more shrimp content here and there ... wow! It would be even more amazing! You have the knowledge so why not? Anyway love all the work you do! Can t wait for the next video.
Hi Matt you asked for suggestions for the room, for me I would think breeding room, it is close to your inside activities, emergencies and easier to keep your eyes on them, that is it has to be OK with "she who must be obeyed ' without knowing the full dimensions of the new fish room /garage and your layout etc the in house room maybe used for the special, expensive, or most attention needed breeders, again not knowing your intentions, limitations or are they being bred for personal stocking or selling.. You could say how long is a piece of string, as an answer to your request. But whatever you decide Matt, you always create enjoyable videos, thank you
Love all these videos . Just wish that all the stuff you use was available in australia. We have some similar but they aren't quite the same. I have found the same glue!
I had a nano planted scaped tank with just shrimp in it and an Oto...felt bad for the latter being solo, so passed it on to another to be with company...but without the Oto darting around at times, it just wasn't the same. My vote is for some shrimp tanks, and some with Bettas :).
Dude, that wooden crown looks epic but I crinched when you glued it. I would have just blobbed a bunch of silicone on that slate and wait a day for drying.
They did really well in there and were constantly grazing. They are currently residing in a few different aquariums as I separated the colours back out.
I'd be curious for a caridina shrimp files! I have one tank with a massive amount of dragon wood which has dropped the ph a bit under 7. Thinking about giving them a go and learning if the rest of parameters are in queue! Thanks for the awesome build Matt!!!
Thank you for watching. There isn't really a hard and fast rule. I would look at aquariums of a similar size to the bowls you're looking at and gauge it on that. If they're a similar thickness you should be fine.
One time I found a small population of cherry shrimp living in my external filter. The baby shrimps must have been sucked into the intake and grew up in the darkness of my filter. They were totally fine but I now use a sponge pre-filter intake cover to prevent the babies from being abducted.
I think you could improve your trackrecord for glueing wood by using cottonball (from cottonpads). Personally i feel they respond better to the superglue than paper towel🙈
How about wall of crustacean, One side could be all sort of Fresh water Shrimp/crayfish and other side could be Salt water Shrimp with Marine algae for plants.
Looking into setting up a shrimp tank myself. Had a couple questions. Would you recommend keeping a heater in the tank (UK)? Are there any online retailers you would recommend ordering shrimp from? Currently I have a tropical tank myself, but looking to get into the shrimp keeping hobby
Depends on the type of shrimp but if you want to be cautious pop a heater in there. There isn't any I've personally used unfortunately, I would have a look around and read some reviews. I've been looking at shrimp cove recently but still haven't got round to ordering.
Thanks for the reply. I’ll just pop into my local Maidenhead for a browse/ chat since that’s where I get most of my fish anyways. Only thing is that they can get a little expensive in store vs online
Great Video! Still like the other music that IA suggested for your dragonwood. 😆 I was wondering if I might ask a question. You showed your Crystal black shrimp, I noticed an algae on some of the plants in that tank, I have the same algae. I have been trying to identify it, can you tell me what it is?
Thank you so much! I believe it is a type of thread algae. Generally it comes from an imbalance in nutrients, essentially an excess. The reason the algae grows in that tank is the dragon wood is leaching out nutrients and the algae is using it as a good source.
Quite a few shops in the UK sell them! Here's the link to see the product page on NT Labs. www.nt-labs.com/browse-products/indoor/onf-lighting/onf-flat-nano431/
Hi Matt a quick question for you I have 3 rams which I like very much but a would like to get some shrimps is this a no go or would I need to rehome my rams first thanks
How about shrimp and bettas? Either in separate tanks or together. I have had great success in keeping my bettas with shrimp, so it can be done. You could have all smaller Nano tanks with small scapes and maybe some of the smaller species of fish like chili rasboras. A lot of people keep just smaller tanks, 5 to 15 gallons, and need ideas for scaping. Either would be awesome. Or a breeding room would be fun too.
Glad to see you found back the pink flamingo cup, we missed it! 😂
Me too!! I was worried for a while hahaha
Thats the think that excited me the most about this video lol i missed our lost little pink friend
Oh def a shrimp/betta room!!! This setup is so cool as are the shrimp. Awesome job as always. Love your videos.
Glad you like them!
Great project Matt. Love the idea of nano/bowl set ups. Not everyone has room for the larger aquariums.
Thanks! 👍 Agreed this is why I love doing all the different types and sizes.
Jesus te ama❤❤ Lute contra yourself
Lovely little scape, and those shrimp are gorgeous.
They are! Thank you!
Jesus te ama
A breeding room would be cool and would differentiate your channel from the many aquascaping fish channels.
Yeah and there are a lot of species I want to try out.
The part with you putting it back in the bowl after you glued the slate on was priceless 😅! The quick look of shear panic then relief... I watched that part like 5x! So nice! The first time you put the wood in I thought "Oh that is going to be lovely" and it is.
Thank you so much!
That's a pretty bowl. I really like the use of the wood in this one. Those shrimp are beautiful. 👀
Thank you very much! I'm happy that I've finally got them home!
I had no faith in thst bit of slate on the wood! Shows how much I know! 😂😂😂 cracking looking aquarium FSM 😜✌️💜
Hahaha with my track record neither did I hahaha
Lovely bowl. Those shrimp look very happy. I do like the idea of a breeding/nursery room
I think so too! It could have a lot of different projects going at once.
I am really intrigued with these round tanks for shrimp, I want to give it a try.
Love the Wood ring stump. Looks so good. Can’t wait to see the finished garage 😃
Very soon! I can't wait either!
New drinking game. Watch a fish shop Matt video and Take a drink every time he says “well, really” 😂 great video as usual! Much love!
Love the idea of a breeding room! Lots of tanks for raising babies sounds like fun. Plus, it’s another reason to use more of that honeycomb wood that turned out so fantastic.
I think so too! A little bank of shrimp breeding tanks and then some bigger ones for other fish.
Good idea. A few small tanks for shrimp and some larger tanks for select species care and breeding.
Just beautiful. The wood idea was genius and those are shrimp I’ve not seen before. Thank you Matt, I’m learning more with every video. Keep them coming xx
Glad you like them! Thank you so much!
I love the homemade tree stump! That is a great idea, and it looks really perfect. I have most of the supplies to set up a jar (it's a big jar) but I just haven't got around to it. Now I want to get a pack of honeycomb wood and try to make my own tree stump.
Thanks so much! 😊 I think you could have a lot of fun with it, maybe even add in some twiggy wood with it?
Hi Matt, thanks for all your content this year, you are a brilliant scaper. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Dusky.
This video is fantastic! More like this please!
I like all your little cups you have. They are pretty cool. Also you should turn it into a shrimp room. That would be pretty cool.
Thank you! Yeah I wouldn't mind having a few breeding shrimp tanks.
@ that would be so cool. I’m excited to see how it turns out.
for filling in those tight areas with substrate, you could get a large mouthed funnel and pour from the bag instead of having to scoop in little capfuls at a time.

That's so awesome to hear! I look forward to hearing all about your endeavors!
Once again a great video!!
I would love you going into breeding so I'm all for the breeding room!!
That's the plan! Already eyeing up some Cichlids.
That 's really cool what you did with the pieces of drift wood awesome
Super cool use of the wood, and I always love a little scape with little inhabitants :) can’t wait to be able to have my own!
Thank you! I look forward to hearing about your scape when you get it!
I love the tree trunk idea.
Thank you!
Love these little shrimp bouls. It was actuall a combo of you and md that got me into shrimp. Been loving it so far with my neo's and about to take the plunge into caroinas, wish me luck.
My opinion... Shrimp or Breeding tanks would work lovely in the old room.
The bowl looks great.
Thank you!
Matt ignore negative comments you are doing great and love your videos
Looking great, Matt! Happy New Year to you and yours from Indiana. Miss you and MD collaborating, but it looks like you both are doing awesome regardless. Congrats, man.
Wishing you a merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you so so much! Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
Love those shrimps! Great patterns and colors. I like the idea of making that a breeding room for shrimps and fish.
Thanks so much! Yeah it would be cool!
Really nice little scape, love the idea of a more breeding focussed room. The shrimp are very pretty.
Thank you, yeah I think it would be cool.
So glad flamingo cup is back 🦩🦩🦩🦩
Cool scape! A nano room would be good after you move into the garage 👍.
I've just ordered my first alien/samurai betta. I can't wait until it arrives!
Sounds like a good idea.
Oooo I do love a good alien Betta.
Love the shrimp videos, another belter Matt..and deffo go with a shrimp room…breeding, scaping, info the full shebang 👌
Sounds good! I think it could be a fun project.
Interesting bowl! A Shrimp/Betta room sounds perfect😃
I think so too! But I also like the idea of breeding tanks.
Wow amazing build.
Glad you like it!
Has definitely inspired me to do a shrimp bowl been with channel since the beginning and my 57 liter tanks success is down to you and md.
Cool scape Matt. Love it!!! I see now why you didn't glue the wood pieces together, so you allowed them to flower out. Cleaver idea.
Thank you, I guess the honest answer is boredom and trying something different to see if it works hahaha
They're lovely. The close up made them look almost like little blue lobsters .. it think it's the flared tails😂
12:47
Expialidocious 🤣
Totally agree! 🤣
Shrimp & betta room sounds awesome! Maybe a general nano tank/fish room, the kind of aquascapes a regular person could keep on a desk/office, in the kitchen or living room & bigger more specialist tanks/fish in the garage.
Oooo nice I like that idea!
Lovely shrimp. 😊 Caridina shrimp are so so sensitive I feel. Look at them wrong and they all go belly up 😂 and a shrimp room would be fantastic!
Yeah I agree, I've done ok with the more common ones so fingers crossed for these.
A shrimp room for sure. I love shrimp. ❤
I got my shrimp bowl at my office desk next to my 5 gallon Fluval for my betta. Good stuff!
the music was definitely better 😆. I'd go for a nano fish room
Thanks for sharing!! Love the content ❤
The wood reminds me of the castle in Krull
I thought it looked like a castle when the wood went in. I have never seen Krull though.
Oh my word yeah I can see that!
@@Matthew.Henley well. . . I guess I will not be putting Krull in my itinerary for when I visit the UK!
Flamingo cuuuuuup!!! Lovely little bowl, giving me some ideas with this one!
You should do a shrimp and betta room!
The possibilities!
Great job young Matthew
Much appreciated!
Nice idea with the shrimproom. Im working on three fluval flex 34l with neocaridinas and 1kind of fish. Basicaly like three biomes. Forest, desert and mountains
Très belle réalisation! Un grand merci pour la vidéo!
Thank you so much!
Great video. Love the idea of "small" tanks. I have a 6 large tanks and love them, however, I have found recently that I am interested in reusing my old 5 & 10 gal tanks that I started with.
It's fun to mess around with the smaller tanks because it doesn't take as much money, time or work haha.

😂. Matt could make another baby and that would solve the dilemma. 😉

A friend at work has a tank in his office , he keeps some tiny pink shromps and one huge African fan shromp called Ebirah , really cool looking
It would be good to call a bamboo shrimp Abra Cadabra!
That's cool! I want some big fan shrimps in the future!

More shrimp and I would love to see fire eels or peacock eels.
Love all these videos . Just wish that all the stuff you use was available in australia. We have some similar but they aren't quite the same. I have found the same glue!
Super cool. I have a 14 gallon bowl with a all in one top on it. What would you suggest to put in it? Thanks for sharing

Dude, that wooden crown looks epic but I crinched when you glued it. I would have just blobbed a bunch of silicone on that slate and wait a day for drying.
Dart frogs 🐸!❤
Ha, I just watched the build of the last bowl this morning! I'm wondering how the shrimp liked the lava rock in the last setup?
They did really well in there and were constantly grazing. They are currently residing in a few different aquariums as I separated the colours back out.
Awesome you changed the music hahahha🎉🎉🎉
Yeah I did, it wasn't really my vibe hahaha.
I'd be curious for a caridina shrimp files! I have one tank with a massive amount of dragon wood which has dropped the ph a bit under 7. Thinking about giving them a go and learning if the rest of parameters are in queue! Thanks for the awesome build Matt!!!
Definitely in the pipeline! That would be awesome!
I’ve been watching your channel since the beginning. Love it. Question: how thick must the bowl be to function as an aquarium?
Thank you for watching. There isn't really a hard and fast rule. I would look at aquariums of a similar size to the bowls you're looking at and gauge it on that. If they're a similar thickness you should be fine.
Love watching your videos mate , I’ve got a 6x30x2 tank coming soon if you fancy making a video come and aquascape it for me lol
Thank you so much! With the work I currently have going on I may get to you in 2026 hahaha
Could we get an update on all of the shrimp tanks to see how the colonies are growing?
Absolutely, I will try and get something out. It's hard because I've moved a few colonies round recently.
One time I found a small population of cherry shrimp living in my external filter. The baby shrimps must have been sucked into the intake and grew up in the darkness of my filter. They were totally fine but I now use a sponge pre-filter intake cover to prevent the babies from being abducted.
Yeah I've also had this happen before it's a blessing but I did feel bad hahaha
Love this one! How many hours do you leave the light on?
Currently around 8 but I will keep an eye on it and may increase it slightly. As soon as I start getting algae I will drop it back down.
@@FishShopMatt ❤
Beautiful tank matt. What special care or parameters do crystal shrimp need to thrive??
A breeding room would be great.

I think so too!
Make a shrimp bowl gallery.... go get those ikea box shelves and a bowls that fit!
Oooo that would be swish!
the flamingo is back lol
Hahaha yeah panic over.
Great video! Have you got a link where we can purchase the wood?
It's a superfish honeycomb 1kg mini bag. I don't have any links but loads of retailers deal with superfish so you should find some online or locally.
Hello Matt😊
Love it, nice bowl, can i do this with the bio orb 60?
How about wall of crustacean, One side could be all sort of Fresh water Shrimp/crayfish and other side could be Salt water Shrimp with Marine algae for plants.
Oooo that would be cool!
I vote for shrimp breeding using the ugf box style
Hi Mat what is the brand of light you are using over the bowl?
It's an ONF flat nano+

Where did you get the wood from Matt?
Hi Matt, where do you get your plants from please?
How youre going to trim it short (front plant) in a small bowl with that wood peace
