The only reason our internet privacy isn't better protected is because so many businesses profit from it..
Businesses is an interesting adjective for them.
Well not only, governments like spying too. But yeah, every big corpo in the world spies on you.
That too, but privacy is more of a problem of the end user tbh. It's your job to protect your own data.
i would not say it is the only reason but certainly one of the main reasons. i think the people in power want to survey us to help maintain their power regardless of whether it makes them money. corporations do it mostly for profit but governments do it for other reasons. from an ideological perspective i would be somewhat okay with not having privacy if it meant everyone could know what anyone else is doing but that's not how our society works right now.

and they start talking about all the ways our privacy is being invaded for money, and it just becomes a 4 hour essay that goes deeper and darker to state all the horrible things companies are doing to get your information and what they're willing to do in order to get it, getting to government conspiracies and ending with a whole nihilistic paragraph about how much everything sucks and there's no escape whatever you do or whoever you think you can trust

@@Walamonga1313 to roughly state: iran has gotten protests recently because a woman was beaten and killed in police custody. The government did not reprimand or care about the events. Another woman a 16 year old was murdered by police as well, and the body was cremated(without parental/guardian approval) if I recall correctly. These are just a series of long standing Iranian protests. However these are way more intense compared to some of the other ones that have occured

it wouldn't be as easy as just "scanning the link", there's a lot of different aspects you have to keep in mind and it'd probably lead to a bunch of false positives
not to mention google owns virustotal, they could put all the urls through it to get rid of the low effort malware links.

Speaking of SSID, I had a friend living and working in China, They mentioned being forced to buy a Chinese iPhone and install WeChat since it was their primary method of Cashless purchase from buying food to buying plane tickets, In metro cities people rarely bought things with Cash. They also mentioned going to a mall and being able to look up profile of active users right on to the freaking MAP of Alibaba app. Not to mention, one of their neighbor was brought into custody by police authorities and was never seen again. It's really scary how Chinese regime operates
The US isn't too far off if we stay on our "Commie" track.

Iranian citizen here, yeah, there have been internet shut downs, and it's not bypassable by tor or such, they disconnect the whole infrastructure and turn on a sort of parallel intranet that is capable to do minimum local connections.

I'm still asking myself when and if Windows will ever sandbox their freaking apps. A random app being able to access so much shit, including stuff like what processes you are running is just insane. No app (other than maybe anti virus software) should be able to see which processes you have running for any reason. Microsoft could very well start locking these down, just giving the user the option to let the app access that stuff. If an app tried to access it, windows should ask the user "Let X app see what other apps you have running on your computer?". Many people would freak out and say no, as they should, but users that needed it could still use it. I don't get why is so hard for Microsoft to not let Windows apps behave the same exact way they did in the XP era... All apps have full OS access, its just insane

I've noticed this a lot in chinese content, many just simply download the programme from other websites instead of the official site, and if it's blocked well you're doomed since it's like 100% possible the download from the shady site comes shock-full with trackers and Baidu stuff.
