They say that once you've seen one, you've seen them all. They have never met Bill Kachel. I have seen many documentaries of Bill's layout, and it only gets better. Thank you.
for sure this is a form of ART . So perfectly done, not to many people, plastic cows etc. Just enough people on the layout to keep the toy effect away. Amazing is all I can say.
He's such a nice guy. Last year I went to see his layout during an open house. I had the wrong time and was an hour early. He came down and said just look around, I'm going to finish breakfast.
Simply stunning, in a class of its own with all that exquisite detail and all those scenes/ cameos. It’s so compact I just cannot fathom out how he built that in the right order so he wasn’t breaking things. I was expecting a massive team build in the 44 years it’s taken, not just one man. It’s not just a railway but a masterpiece in planning and jigsaw design too! So glad to have stumbled on this, thank you for posting.
Make 10 videos of this layout, I surly would not complain. It’s almost un fathomable the work, the love that has gone into this. Thanks for taking us along.
Beautiful layout. So amazing. Im worried that the interest, focus, and time put into this hobby will fade away with the younger generation. I've loved this hobby since I was a child but have no time or room for it. Still have a lot of my cars packed away one day when I retire, so I live through channels like yours ! thanks and keep up the good work.
Beyond the layout here, what is so exceptional is the level of your enthusiasm in making the video and zooming in on details. What hit me after the first shock(pun intended) of how many rails lines exist, were the power transformers and wiring and the correctness of it all. And I am only 5 minutes into your video here. BRAVO! Ziggy
This brought back childhood memories of visiting Roadside America in Shartlesville PA! The icing on the cake would be a trip to the Strasburg Railroad in Lancaster Co PA.
Who cares wat people make as comments... I'm happy you showed it again!, it's amazing and if you hadn't did it again I would've never been able to view it, thank you sir I've subscribed..❤
I’ve been a long time fan of Bill Kachel’s model railroad. You did a very nice job of video taping. I had an observation at the five minute mark when you are focused on a Catenary bridge, which appears to have 8 transformers setting across the top of the bridge. During the late 70s I had a job repairing TVs, radios, and amplifiers which at that time were mostly vacuum tube driven. The transformers on the bridge seem to be the innards of a typical vacuum tube without the glass. If so, what a novel idea. Shows me that Mr. Kachel just thinking outside the box. Good job!
You missed showing how an empty coal hopper glides downhill, picks up speed as it goes uphill, stops and then lets gravity pull it through a slip switch to a sidetrack for pickup later and return to the mine for refilling! A marvel - and Bill has several of these operating coal dumps, plus several other dumping stations around the layout. A total of six operating coal dumps, if memory serves. A phenomenal layout that is the work of a master.
Thanks for the closed caption as I like the narration, but I can only handle the bells & whistles that are sound appropriate for the size of the surrounding area (hearing the train whistle {5+ scenic miles} rooms away as full blast.) Great job overall!
0_0 I only could dream of having my layout look this good. I eventually will start building the Rutland Railroad's Island Line in HO scale and have a lot to learn if I even want to come close to this
AL could you ask him how 🤔 dose he get under nyc 🤔 if a trains derail and what is the surface 🤔 that NYC is made of hard wood 🪵 🤔 foam etc 🤔 thanks Al but the layout is awesome excellent work he a master craftsman great 👍 video 📹
Bill has his layout open three times each November. The list is usually posted in October. Google “Model Railroad Open Houses DE PA NJ MD”. This has been going on for more than 30 years and is a great boost for the hobby. More than 100 layouts of all scales, sizes and completeness are listed. Bill’s layout has also been featured in the old TV series “Tracks Ahead.”
Bill’s absolutely a world class artist. Scratch ship building is a lifetime pursuit, in and of itself
He.really should be nominated a lifetime achievement award and maybe just maybe? The key to where he lives.this man is a legend obviously. Love it!!!
I wish I had a key to where he lives 🤣
This layout boggles my mind everyday I’ve seen it. It’s hard to wrap your head around. Astonishing is the first word that comes to mind
Wow, what an incredible creation. I could zone out there all day. Thanks for sharing
The attention this layout receives is well deserved. This is Bill’s life’s work viewing it is a privilege.

One of the three most amazing layout I have ever seen! My compliments to the owner. Greetings from Italy
Il plastico di Bill Kachel è meraviglioso e mi ha mandato con i ricordi alla perduta creazione di John Whitby Allen 😍

To quote a famous movie line "it belongs in a museum!"
Amazing work kudos 😊
Fantastic layout from Sydney Australia..thanks for showing it😊😊
What a labor of love. Brought me back to my childhood, early 60's before the Penn Central fiasco. The PRR was something.
@@thomasleen4275 so was con central, amazing rail roads with awesome lines and history.
Wow!!! Amazing detail and a lifetime of work!!! Nothing I've ever seen exceeds this, are you sure this was all done by one man? My gosh! Buetiful..❤
I've been there many times, always amazes me and always see something new each time! A true craftsman!

Perhaps the best North American HO layout in the world. Truly magnificent.
Amazing !! The detail is incredible.

Those FMs are Erie builds. 2 large radiator fans, and a large radiator area. Plus A-1-A trucks.
I’m speechless! Wow!! 💯❤️🤩
Ships have boats...amazing layout.
Cool! Merci du partage! Stéph.
wow I am speechless and excellent work
I enjoy seeing the area I live in. I’m 4 miles away from Altoona and about 7 miles away from Horseshoe Curve.
Great video👋👋👋🙏
Truly amazing work, surely worthy of a professional film team to bring it even more into reality, especially with some Sun/Daylight lighting
Superb layout, didn’t spot a “jumper”, I bet a cab video would awesome.

Beautiful layout ❤ Greetings from Illinois.
I want the same at home ….tres joli réseau waooo
Beautiful, that's a modified MTH bridge, looks better in HO with the 4 track mains like the real one! Amazing catenary.
Love the model of Penn Station.
Sweet setup😊😊😊😊😊
The story about meeting John Allen was amazing.
Excellent layout superb work CANTARY work is flawless 👏 👌 🙌
1:49 ここ!南海難波駅みたい
2:59 ここ!阪急梅田駅っぽい
南海難波と阪急梅田をくっつけたような駅格好良い!
When I saw the endless Catenary in the thumbnail I thought I was going to see a Swiss Layout 😀
There really are no words to describe this masterpiece. Incredible detail abounds. . . . .
Nice work
Thx for your video
Kind of reminds me of Rod Stewarts layout .... Yes the rock star .... I believe his layout has NY and Chicago
Simply amazing!
Jaw-droppingly beautiful. Still catenary lines do not bend along curves, they would sag due to physics.
Another amazing HO layout.
Incredible layout.
Went I came up on this video. I thought the picture was real.
This has to be the most detailed layout on this planet . [ No , it IS ] ,
0_0 I only could dream of having my layout look this good. I eventually will start building the Rutland Railroad's Island Line in HO scale and have a lot to learn if I even want to come close to this
"Boat" is often used colloquially to refer to any floating vessel, including ships, even though it’s not technically accurate.
Good stuff baddy 🎩👍
Unbelievable. Congratulations!
Hope you and your wife had a nice Thanksgiving, oh and Winston too.
This layout could be in Model Railroad magazine every month for a year or 2 just 2 picture and see everything and really appreciate it
