I love playing this for my friends who are into Jazz. The look on their face of disbelief, followed by a smile and then laughter. They dig it once they remember that Jazz is for breaking the rules.Thank you Frank Zappa. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I also love to play this for the people who didnt think Terry Bozzio was franks best drummer and best fit for franks style. Colaiuta wasnt.

I'm a musician, and one of the criteria I use to judge a good performance is whether it makes me want to learn the intsrument or not. MB's solo on this track makes me want to learn tenor sax.

This is such a great compilation of talent and math. Time signatures are off the charts. Bozio is at his best. I wish more people who think they understand would examine this. Frank is brilliant. Frank and tool are incredibly good at making the complicated seem understandable until you try to keep up.

FZ was a unique individual on so many levels. Even after listening to his music for approaching half a century i am still discovering new facets to his genius. FZ certainly attracted some amazing musicians, none more so than Mike Brecker; The playing on this track, from a terrific album, is incredible. I have always thought that FZ's concept of jazz-rock was always the most exciting.

'greed. M'boy Brecker catches the wave of a lifetime. All in all, the intro and preceding stuff'n'solo seem to build up to it, and then the brotherly outro refers back to it. Much kudos to Patrick O'Hearn though for embracing that temporary space, bringing some humor to the the gem. Music is the Best!

Many friends of mine Ask me : what album could you advise me to get in Zappa's music ? And every Time I'm very confused because there is an Infinite numbers of doors and periods .... Zappa composer ? Zappa singer ? Zappa guitarist ? Zappa social satyrist? Zappa clown ? My unique answer: Zappa Genius ! But this album is easy to Bégin the Zappa Initiation. Zappa is well recognized by those who know music as one of the greatest guitarists of all time and one of the great composers of the 20th century in Classical Avant Garde, Rock, Jazz, Doo Wop, and Blues. He died well before his time and before he could complete his œuvre (life's work). We were robbed!! But, he has left behind dozens of wonderful compositions and hundreds of hours of live recordings. Thank you Frank, the world owes you a huge debt.

+Snabulax I find this as well. The first version of "We're Only In It For The Money" I ever heard was the remix with the re-recorded bass and drum tracks, and so I relate to that version. When I heard the original, I liked it as well, but now regard BOTH albums almost as distinct creations, and I listen to whichever version strikes me in the moment.

I spoke with Dweezil this year, he said something about the best saxophone player his Dad ever played with......I said you mean Micheal Brecker, referring to this solo. He said, no. I disagree!

Yes had same conversation with him. Strongly disagree. Of course he wasn’t an official mother person and was the most recorded sax player in history. Jaco Pastorius said he didn’t like M. Breaker, that he was trying to be John Coltrane and I told him not like you’re trying to be Jimi Hendrix? Hero worship is a strong thing.

Have also heard similar things about A. Holdsworth. Ego predominately rules musicians accept certain ones I have that are exceptionally good people as well.

    Michael Brecker - Immortal Solo
Around 9:59 O'Hearn seems to be quoting something. Does anybody know what that is, if that's what he's doing?

Me thinks Michael Brecker is a tad coked-up (or totally) for that sax solo to be played the way it was. And Randy's trumpet sound... Is he actually playing with electric pick ups & through a ring modulator ? FZ & his players never cease to amaze me...
