🖨 Thank you all who have watched our video! We have gone through the comments section and created a video on some of your most frequently asked questions! th-cam.com/video/G_R_5DGdLlY/w-d-xo.html
For those wondering how DTG washes, it depends how you print your garment, how well you pretreat it/cure the garment, and the quality of ink you’re using. We wash our DTG prints (and put them in the dryer) with no problems at all. DTG makes printing a breeze.
Depends a lot on the t-shirt too. Lots of higher quality inks and pretreatements are falling after few washes missleading people, who blame the ink brand, but it's the t-shirts that fails the good print. There is difference between cotton and "cotton".
What I really want to know is how I can be sure when I order a T shirt that *I don't get one with a vinyl/ rubber/plastic/ other stuck-on decal instead of an actual print.*
Found this video helpful in deciding what print style to use for a run of merch, thank you. And I just realized that I'm watching a Bella Canvas video... which happens to be my favorite shirt brand to use!
I work with both screen printing and dtg and while dtg has higher resolution than some screen printing processes the dtg is very limited in what you can print. Some dtg machines won't take vector files and you are limited to the type of garment you can print. Overall I'd rather stick with screen print because of the speed, durability, and the ability to print on more types of garments
DTG looks great the first time you wear it....but then it gradually starts falling apart with every wash. Screen printing is far more durable. I have screen printed tee shirts that I have literally worn for 20 years and they still look fine. The images on my DTG shirts started flaking off within ONE YEAR, even with cold water wash and gentle dry.
I used Printful to print a multi-colored design via DTG and I was not very impressed with how the design faded after each wash, nor did I like the chemical smell that the shirt had when I first opened the packaging. Moving forward, I think that I'm gonna only use screen printing. Great Video!
I agree screen printed plastisol ink washes better but the DTG when cured right looks pretty good. I have seen 2 and 3 year old DTG prints still going strong.
Shirt Agency I agree. However, I would like to see the durability of this particular design long term. I've yet to see any DTG hold up great long term with white ink. Great video by Bella Canvas btw!
Forget plastisol. I make my sim process inks out of green galaxy mixing system. All you have to do is match the colors. I discharge the base. I use Wiliflex spot process plastisol occasionally when sep studio separated. I also use InkSeps CWB plastisol but it doesn’t matter which I use all are going to look like your dtg but be done in a tenth the time.
I think they purposely screen printed these at such a low lpi to make the DTG print look superior just to push sales. Output at a higher lpi, burn on higher mesh counts and you can make the DTG look bad in comparison.
I'm a screen printer! In reference to screen printing: "There are three to four blues in this artwork but we simplified it down to 1." "And that's where we're going to see the biggest difference between this and DTG." One of the advantages of getting your artwork screen printed is that you can use more vibrant colors. A screenprint can use multiple blues, whereas DTG only uses 1 blue. Question: Why the 45 line screening? I do 50 for manual printing; can't you do at least 55 for automatic machines? I don't think this was a fair comparison.
Yeah. We used to run CMYK on a lot of stuff with crazy detail and it looked fantastic. Bitch to set up but looked amazing and I had a few test print shirts that the prints outlasted the actual shirts.
Regarding image quality, I'm surprised you only compared resolution. What about colour vibrancy? It's well known that screen printing produces more vibrant colours than DTG.
We have both, DTG takes a lot of time to make large quantities, must of the time for 50 pieces or more with 3 or 4 colors we use screen printing it all comes down to how many colors the job needs, for low quantites with many colors DTG is the way to go
I have sent numerous photos of mine to printers and they are just about the same to me. If you are using 1 - 2 colors, you can go way faster with screen and I get that. But if you want a realistic tee, DTG preserves that. A lot of my clients do want the cartoonish look of hand-drawn art. A screen printer told me recently that the top of the line DTG machines are going to be around $50k and will need new heads several times a year and they are $1K each. I suppose you could start out with a $15K machine at first or two and then work up to the high-end stuff.
Right! It really depends on both the printer and customer's budgets and needs. Thanks for adding your two cents! We love hearing everyone's experiences.
I've been printing for 40 years, including 4 color high end process. Why did they use such a large dot? A 55lpi would have worked much better as a 4 COLOR PROCESS. The negative in the white underbass would suffice as the black.
at 65 with a 300-320 mesh i get result really close to dtg costumers can't see the difference i even have screen printer telling me i did it with a dtg. i work similar with simulated process.
Shirt Agency headache? You’re comparing. Make it honest. You are putting 45 lpi up against a digital printer? You need to keep the Roque rocking. I’m all about Rocking with Roque and powering the print. I wish Ryonet wouldn’t even sell those dtg printers. But they have to do what they have to do. You won’t catch me with one. I have a small run system established that flies and let’s face it. That would be the only advantage of dtg, for small runs. You’re kidding yourself making it about quality. I choke my base and interlock my halftones. I have accurip and sep studio but on a print like that I would manual sep It and hit it at 65 lpi.
Screen printing is ART and holds more value to me. If you sell DTG more than a screen printed tee that's a rip off to me. I'll gladly buy a $50 screen print but would never buy DTG for more than $30.
Johnathan Macaw is correct. If and only if, you are doing a design with multiple colors AND also a very intricate design like the one used in the video, you would more than likely have to go with DTG Printing. With that said, Silk Screening is hands down, KING. It is superior over and above all other forms of printing. And here is some more VERY important information when it comes to using DTG Printing. DTG machines print using cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK). When you convert an amazing looking digital file from RGB to CMYK, (the designs you create on your computer use RGB) many colors go “out of gamut.” Simply put, they can't be reproduced using just CMYK. In my opinion, any company that uses DTG, especially for Drop Shipping, should make it loud and clear what problems can arise when printing shirts. Maybe they do now, not sure. But if you didn't know, now ya know. I hope I am saving people from a whole lot of problems they didn't know exists with DTG Printing Technology. Finally, the video was great in its ability to show a difference when someone has to deal with such intricate art work.
All of the tests I have had made at Printful have used Bella Canvas-- it's a great shirt with a light weight feel. My success of printing with Printful is spotty tho, especially with process spot colors. I don't think DTG is the best process for spot colors, especially on black fabric. Do you have such a review?
DTG is the future. The only advantages Screen Print currently has is it's better for large volume and may hold up better after washing. However, both of those two things can be bridged as technology improves.
Screen Printing is doomed because now people can print their own t-shirts on demand through amazon and other outlets... just one t-shirt at a time... No need for large inventory of t-shirts that will never sell...
new to the whole t shirt business and process this was very helpful I like the DTG finished product but also appreciate the screenprint and the value of it which allows for more products being made thanks for sharing
But how do they FEEL? I can't wear T-shirts that have that plastic feel to whatever is on them because if I sweat at all, that part sticks to my skin and is uncomfortable. Trying to figure out if DTG still has that feel.
Hey serious question here if I want to build a Brand for tshirt shorts hats etc and money isn't an issue which should I buy dtg or screen print there's a ridiculous gap in price between them and I would like to not only make my own brand but eventually have a high quality street brand?? look into the M&R M-Link X i have my own sample prints sent to me from M&R and i can't even touch the quality and feel of the print with screens. Don't forget these machines use CMYK inks to print so if your creating designs in RGB on your computer, your screen is backlit and using colours that are not in the pantone range. Certain colours will be altered due to limitations in CMYK.
Really helpful video. So pretty much DTG cost more and looks better depending on the graphic. These Bella video's are good because they really help you figure out a lot of the early stage decisions i.e. what print process, kind of shirt etc. thanks yall, appreciate it. Ive watched a lot of them.
Screen printing is a little bit more durable after multiple washes. Some people find more fading with DTG, but if you get the settings right with DTG you can eliminate some of those differences on the wash test front
It is my understanding that DTG has great resolution but I find many cons. The main one it that images wash away menaning that screen printing gets an upper hand.

which method do those vintage style Johnson Motor Company shirts use? Yuu can not feel the print, feels like the rest of the shirt and its very light saturated so you can look trough it. I can not imagine its DTG and it isnt sublimation as well because its cotton. So i guess its like a screen print but very lightly done, i dont know if thats possible. Just curious because i have some shirts from them.
When I had a shirt digitally printed it did not take weeks. He mentions what he does to black shirt. Do they do that same treatment to white shirts? This is something that should have been addressed.
Guys what about the texture quality? Does it feel embedded with the cloth, or simply glued on it? I dont like the feeling of a design "glued" on the shirt...
I am on a manual Vastex and print at 55 lpi.... These guys were on a ROQ auto and went down to 45 lpi, my guess is they wanted the screen print to look noticeably different. The first time I watched this video before I started to Sim Process I really didn't understand but now that I crank out photo prints on a manual trust me they could have gotten a better print. But the real test is what will the DTG look like 10, 20, 60 washes later
Sure! all our fabrics are great for screen printing and DTG. But if we HAD to rank...100% cotton performs the best for both, followed by heather CVC, then triblend and flow.
doxrox4 definitely. Wondering why they didn't go 55 lpi. I feel like we could pull a print pretty similar to dtg. I would like to do this as a discharge UB with all WB colors. Hand and durability would be greater than DTG. I also print high end dtg, but can outprint dtg all day in quality and durability.
BathingWookie Only difference between the 2 consoles are the controllers and the Xbox controller's much better. (PS4 owner) hopefully getting an Xbox within the next month
Looking for a DTG company that does three way prints "Front" "Inside Neck Tag Label" and Back Neck Tag to place my logo. Can you direct me to that direction? Thanks in advance!
How do you get the pretreat residue off of the shirt before you ship to the customer? In this video it looks like the pretreat was pretty heavy, but when it was done looks retail ready. Thanks for your time, love these videos!
One thing i dont like with graphic t shirts is when the print is too thick and stiff... lol. anyway, im wondering if one of these printing methods has more of a light feel almost like its part of the shirt?
With larger graphics like this, it does feel a little thicker especially on a darker shirt. If you print with DTG on a white or light colored shirt - the print will feel much more a part of the fabric.
Hey Venancio! Cole suggests avoiding putting CMYK on anything that isn’t white for a better color control and a smoother finish with simulated process.
BELLA CANVAS cmyk is 100% able to print on dark colors. Lay down a white base with a low bleed plastisol then the cmyk colors on top of that. Of course the white has to be flashed first and if the cmyk are actual cmyk colors they should be thin. I would recommend wilflex ink
Screen print will always wash better and last longer, The advantage of dtg will always be the resolution. Screen print will last dtg will provide better image quality. Your Choice. I am a screen printer.
I wonder why they limited the sim process to 6 colours. They could've got that blue better for sure. 55lpi of course as others have also stated. Personally I love a screen printed image over any dtg. DTG just isn't there yet for me.
Doesn’t speak about the longevity of each option... does screen printing last longer... does it sit higher onto the fabric? What option begins to chip the fastest....
It doesn't. Screen printing can give you a lot more than you can see here in this vid. They showed the worst, just to sell you DTG and etc. Best is to have both to be fare
We don't look at the two as better or worse - each printing technique serves a different purpose! Screen printing is great for high volume, where as DTG can be better for lower unit or orders with tons of colors
You are definitely a newbie than. Screen printing has better quality. While digital feels like plastic taped on a shirt. But you will only know when you find out.
It depends on quantity. With screen printing, your printing cost per shirt will go do as your quantity increases. DTG is a fixed cost so it's better for smaller runs! If you are printing more than 100 units of the same artwork, its usually faster and cheaper to screen print.
I can see one person's comment about "how DTG washes" and that me wonder why the interviewer did not ask the printing person .. Which process produces an image holds up better to general wear or repeated laundering??? Okay, I just saw your follow-up video, where the printing guy spends several seconds talking about "washability" and "the traditional feel" being better with screening. I know it's asking a lot, but since you're grinding out videos, maybe you could show the comparison between a repeatedly washed, screened shirt and a DTG-printed shirt that's been exposed to the same number of washings.

When I had a shirt digitally printed it did not take weeks. He mentions what he does to black shirt. Do they do that same treatment to white shirts? This is something that should have been addressed.
Thanks very much, helps me out a lot 👍🏼
Great video! Well done.
Can an actual real picture in highj resolution be printed in DTG and have the same quality let say a t-shirt, mug and hoddie? Thank you!
Guys what about the texture quality? Does it feel embedded with the cloth, or simply glued on it? I dont like the feeling of a design "glued" on the shirt...
Same I wanna know too..
It’s smooth with the shirt. You can’t feel the artwork
What print type is more durable?
Can you advise on the best fabric blends for screen printing and digital printing! Looking to print on soft blend fabrics, thanks
Sure! all our fabrics are great for screen printing and DTG. But if we HAD to rank...100% cotton performs the best for both, followed by heather CVC, then triblend and flow.
Thank you, I'm looking into doing both!
Which t-shirt printing is best high quality printing machine anyone help pls
One more thing, 45 DPI is not the limitation of screen printing LOL I have printed on to t-shirts upwards of 300 DPI
I want to know What's the print durability of each method?
Yep, I agree Chris Studer. DTG can not compare to screen for durability.
doxrox4 definitely. Wondering why they didn't go 55 lpi. I feel like we could pull a print pretty similar to dtg. I would like to do this as a discharge UB with all WB colors. Hand and durability would be greater than DTG. I also print high end dtg, but can outprint dtg all day in quality and durability.
Who wants a mass of paint on one s chest? That s what you get with screen printing.
girl you have the most lovely skin tone
:) We're all very jealous of carissa's skin!
Thank you Bella Canvas.
Thank you!
Lmao the fact that people are seriously arguing about this shit is so hilarious
PentaFil I know right. It’s like an Xbox vs PlayStation comments section. (PlayStation is better)
BathingWookie Only difference between the 2 consoles are the controllers and the Xbox controller's much better. (PS4 owner) hopefully getting an Xbox within the next month
So what would you guys recommend, DTG?
Looking for a DTG company that does three way prints "Front" "Inside Neck Tag Label" and Back Neck Tag to place my logo. Can you direct me to that direction? Thanks in advance!
Printful
Stewie Griffin thanks
AWESOME! I needed this video!
Glade we could help! Be sure to check out more helpful content on our channel!
How do you get the pretreat residue off of the shirt before you ship to the customer? In this video it looks like the pretreat was pretty heavy, but when it was done looks retail ready. Thanks for your time, love these videos!
Hey Mark! That would be a question for Cole at Shirt Agency!
BELLA CANVAS Thanks for the reply. This TH-cam channel (and BC as a brand) is the truth! Keep crushing it guys! ❤️🔥
@@markperrett6123 Thanks so much!
where can i get some automatic equipment like that used for the screen prints
The machine in this video is from Ryonet!
Great video and great information. Thank you.
What kinds of inks are used in the dtg machine?
Hi there! They're water based inks.
Please what software did you use to separate the artwork?
Photoshop or Illustarator. Just type on youtube "How to seperate an image into CMYK"
This is helpful. Thank you Bella+Canvas 🤙🏼
I wana join your company i know screen printing very we
Very well
Why not use CMYK plastisol for the screen printed option?
Hey Venancio! Cole suggests avoiding putting CMYK on anything that isn’t white for a better color control and a smoother finish with simulated process.
BELLA CANVAS cmyk is 100% able to print on dark colors. Lay down a white base with a low bleed plastisol then the cmyk colors on top of that. Of course the white has to be flashed first and if the cmyk are actual cmyk colors they should be thin. I would recommend wilflex ink
Ask you dtg print color like that silkscreen print color
Great video. Needed a good explanation and this did it.
Glad we could help!
Believe me, it doesn't
Screen print will always wash better and last longer, The advantage of dtg will always be the resolution.
Screen print will last dtg will provide better image quality. Your Choice.
I am a screen printer.
I wonder why they limited the sim process to 6 colours. They could've got that blue better for sure. 55lpi of course as others have also stated.
Personally I love a screen printed image over any dtg.
DTG just isn't there yet for me.
Hi,friend. We are a Chinese DTF products supplier. Are you interested in DTF printing?
So if i want to print like about 12 T-Shirts. What should i use?
DTG for sure
@@BELLACANVASOFFICIAL Ok thanks
Very helpful
drink every time he says "white underbase"
Wowww amazing
manual screen printing thanks!
used screen printer if only 1design for many t shirts..use dtg for many designs for many t shirts.
This was great. Thanks for the info!
thank you very much
very informative
What kind of ink using on that?
Hi Seongoh! We made this video a few years ago, so we would recommend reaching out to Shirt Agency directly to confirm this! www.shirtagency.com
Doesn’t speak about the longevity of each option... does screen printing last longer... does it sit higher onto the fabric? What option begins to chip the fastest....
Can somebody please tell me what is the cost of printing one t-shirt on DTG printer.
Around $15 - $17 but that includes the shirt
Is BELLA hiring any warehouse positions?
You're not going to find out on youtube. I find it hilarious when people ask shit they can easily google.
@700rwhp So they discriminate according to sex?
This video helps a lot. I didn't know the screen printing looked like that in comparison to DTG.
It doesn't. Screen printing can give you a lot more than you can see here in this vid. They showed the worst, just to sell you DTG and etc.
Best is to have both to be fare
I'm a newbie at all of this, but yes the difference is major, obviously, the DTG is a much better choice...
What is the difference in cost??
It depends on quantity. With screen printing, your printing cost per shirt will go do as your quantity increases. DTG is a fixed cost so it's better for smaller runs! If you are printing more than 100 units of the same artwork, its usually faster and cheaper to screen print.
love it
I can see one person's comment about "how DTG washes" and that me wonder why the interviewer did not ask the printing person ..
