I am going to watch this video more than once planing on visiting Malaga next year and I hope it will be my future retirement so your efforts are very much appreciated and sincerely thanks a lot
Hello Paul and Bea - I continue to enjoy all of your TH-cam posts as it has all been fun and educational. I am working on my non-lucrative VISA and hoping that I am finally able to move to Madrid by October this year. Your most recent post was truly very helpful - I had plans of porting my phone number to Google voice but am having second thoughts now; I will be looking into both Skype and Lobster - thanks again. Jing
@@UnitedPublicServantAwareness Thank you, getting the FCC involved helped get a better response from them, from a real person and not just an automated email response.
Yikes, this is such a nightmare, sorry you’re still without your number! I ported my NY number to Google voice last September and have been fairly happy. I’ve only had 2 situations where I haven’t been able to use my Google voice number for authentications but luckily have been able to use email or have a family member in the US let me borrow their number to set up an account (the latter is not ideal though). I’ve thought about purchasing a cheap plan through Tello or Mint and porting my Google voice number back so that it’s a real cell number again. I would be so ruined without this number, which is attached to every account I have (and it’s a number I’ve had for 20 years)! Hmm, what to do…
Thanks for this video about google voice. Did you ever get your number back? I had an issue with Skype when we signed up with a Capital One credit card. I tried using my skip number, but they didn't accept it because it is a VoIP number. Did you experience anything like that?
Great video. Very informative. That 12.99 Euros/month with Lobster sounds like a great plan. How clear is the reception on calls you make from Spain to the US? Apparently the Lobster network in Spain is Movistar owned by Telefonica which is the largest network in Spain! Can you pay them monthly with online banking or only by credit card?
Yes I love using it to call the US, there's no delays or lag during the call, and I don't have to ration the minutes. It's as if I was using a US sim. The payments are taken out automatically from my credit card but you also have the option to pause the payment or not have it on autopay. Don't forget to use our link. And I think they can mail the sim to the US/UK! www.lobster.es/referral/?referralCode=LoveBoffo
I realize this is an old video but hoping you can answer a question. I am moving to Spain in November and was wondering in the timing in porting my US number to Google Voice. Other people say don’t port until the last day but you ported your number a few days before. Does this mean you only received calls and texts when you had WiFi since you no longer were with your carrier? Thank you!
I don't know if this will help. I was without my Google number for a total of 9 months. I waited the 6 month period of inactivity, hoping they would release my number to be used by another account with no victory. Last ditch effort was that I logged in with the Google voice app on Android and deleted the number. At day 90 I recovered my number under a different account. So when you're going through this, you can delete the number and get it with another account after 90 days.
Hi and thank you. I’m so in a dilemma now regarding do I port my ph # prior to my retirement in Thailand soon ??? I need the verification process with my credit cards etc. And, I want to communicate with family - at minimal- with texts. Again thank you both, any recommendations appreciated. 🙏
@@briansouza8528 yes port it before you go. We ported 1 week before and just got a prepaid sim for the last week in the US. If everyone you love has an iPhone you can still do iMessage and FaceTime over wifi.
@@EverythingIsBoffo Yep! I had a nightmare situation with Google and I couldn’t access my decades long email for a couple of months. I had to contact TH-cam because , of course, our gmails are connected with that and many other accounts. You can imagine the nightmare. There was a glitch and Gmail wouldn’t help, although they knew that the glitch was causing problems for many subscribers. Then one day, voila! So, while I may look like a new subscriber to you, I’m actually a double subscriber. 😉

I would still recommend Google Voice to you can keep your old number. It only happened to me and not Paul. But it’s up to you! ☺️

Makes sense. Hope one day we get to meet in Madrid or Valencia

Hola, cómo están? soy Miriam de nuevo, quería saber si con la visa no lucrativa i have to purchase a one way ticket
Or purchase the round trip? Thanks

Did Paul not have the same issue with his Google Voice account?
So far so good for him. 🤫 🤐 🤞🏼
Super helpful video! Thank you! Can I port my US number into lobster while out of the United States?
Lobster will only give you a Spanish number. So you need to port to Google Voice, or Numberbarn, or Tossable Digits.

Yes I hope to hear from them soon!!! ☺️ I want my number back!
Very useful info. I’m wondering if using a US VPN with Google voice would help, albeit a bit cumbersome.
Maybe? It’s just a hassle not being able to talk to anyone at all to explain it to me.

And what about if you access your Google Voice through a VPN connected to the US?
I guess that would be better. But I don’t normally use VPN on my phone.
