This is probably the most unique ranking of all the souls levels ive ever seen . Did not expect more than half of the level placements in this 💀 keeps you on your toes.
@@jarlwhiterun7478 I what I mean is that even if it's the top 10 best or worse , Candle often surprises me with his placements and breakdowns of the levels /bosse. It's a whole new subjective take than the cookie cutter objective ones . Think I've seen 1 or 2 big multiples game fromsoft level /boss rankings but candle is no joke the most entertainment.
I‘m so glad I only just started watching your videos. The narration is calm with a lot of humor and charisma and the presentation all-around just enjoyable. Thank you!
I'm glad Leyndell gets the recognition it deserves. From how open it is, to the excellent encounter design, to the enemy variety, and the smattering of mini-bosses throughout our the area, I think Leyndell is the gold standard for what level design in these games can be.
Even after the DLC Leyndell reigns king, though I would say that both Shadow Keep and Haligtree/Elphael come close. What sets Leyndell/SSG over the edge for me is the Outer Walls. Approaching that first big staircase and giant doors, then moving through the Capital Outskirts up to the battlefield, never gets old. Shadow Keep just needed some more detail and interconnection.
What a journey this series has been, absolutely loved every minute of it. Areas don’t tend to get as much love as bosses by the community, so it’s been so fun seeing someone take a deep dive at every single one. Absolutely love the video!
this series has been fantastic. it’s so refreshing to hear someone with a genuinely unique and well informed opinion on the series. and bros got charm too !! hittin subscribe
Really fun set of videos, good work! Can't believe that Fountainhead Palace, Ashina Castle, Irithyll, Farum Azula, Elphael, Subterraneous Shunning Grounds (yes), Fishing Hamlet, and Ash Lake are so low, though. While other levels, like Inner Ward, Lothric Castle, Research Hall felt way too high. But cheers for differing opinions!
I’m so glad I’m not alone in my adoration for Leyndell. The first time I played through it, as blasphemous as it may be, I thought “this is better Anor Londo”. It felt like their vision of a golden city of gods was finally able to become reality
When you include the Outer Walls, SSG and Proscription, which I like to call Greater Leyndell, it's hands down one of the best achievements in gaming. The city looks massive and feels massive and it's denser and deeper than you ever really expect. In SOTE I think Shadow Keep, Rauh and Enir are about as good as Greater Leyndell as a continuous path/interconnected area.
Man this ranking goes hard, just watched all parts and was worth the time. The research in this must've been an insane amount of work. Great going can't wait for what else you have to say.
...I've been right there with ya since the Blasphemous vid, my friend. Awesome seeing you have patrons and a ton more followers! And yes, I type this comment in an American accent being from Kentucky and all..
These videos have been fantastic company during my workdays, absolutely love this kind of content. Also, a soulsborne, Darkest Dungeon, and Tim and Eric fan? You sir have impeccable taste
great video, thanks for making it! I'm definitely subscribing you've got a very listenable cadence. I know its a little old but just to share info in case you were curious, the milky liquid in deeproot depths is soap. corpse wax mixes into the waterfall basin and makes soapy water, a known occurrence in history when mass killings occur near bodies of water. locals would wash their cloths in the river and not understand why they came out so much cleaner than usual.
Im looking to get back into ds2, i have about 30/40 hours in SOTFS and i can't lie and say i didn't despise it throughout most of my playtime, yet listening to you give the praise to a lot of it's levels makes me want to give it another chance
Blighttown is a fucking GREAT level. I never experienced the framerate issue, because I first played DSR. At first I didn't like it because of how oppressive and dangerous it is...but once it clicked that that's exactly the point, I fell in love. It does what it does so well. Highly deserving of a good rank among the many soulsborne levels. I should add that it's far and away the best of the three "descent into hell" levels in Dark Souls. Demon Ruins/Izalith being the fiery embodiment of hell, Tomb of Giants being the dark embodiment of hell, and Blighttown being the embodiment of the misery element of hell.
I especially like the lower part of Blighttown. I’ve spent some time down in the muck and I gotta say, my opinion flipped. There’s so much stuff down there! Plus if you’re a pyromancer, there’s even MORE reason to go!
Fun fact about volcano manor is if you get abducted the place you spawn is close to the elevator leading to Godskin noble. So if you abuse the level geometry by landing on one of the small rocks in the side of the… lava fall? That’ll get you low enough to where you can then fall into the lava below and not die from the fall damage. After that you can walk over to where the elevator is and it’ll put you right next to the Godskin Noble arena. Granted this seems to remove the sight of grace outside of rykards arena but it’s neat that there’s sort of another way into the manor, only way I was able to enter the level when I played the Elden ring randomizer.
i'm pretty sure there _are_ some actual celestial emissaries to be found in the research hall area. they're in an exterior side area that seems to be a nightmare version of the boss arena for the big emissary
I feel conflicted about the Ringed City. I enjoy the area is fantastic except for the sections involving Adjudicator Giants, NPC invaders, Midir before his boss fight, the big staircase win ~8 Harald Legion Knights on it, and the rooftop in the swamp with ~6 Ringed Knights. Unfortunately, the set pieces and enemies I mentioned make up a rather large portion of the area, so I suppose it comes down to how you feel the good parts weigh up against the bad.
Ah yes this is gonna make my washing up and cleaning so much better. Love this kinda stuff and I would absolutely listen to you ranking best weapons....from best...to er....lol
Great point on feeling slightly overpowered when getting to Leyndell. Never really clicked why I didn’t love the area as much as others. It’s lack of challenge. I’m a fucking tank by the time I arrive! Great job mate 👏
You can roll through the red dragon’s fire in Lords path too, just like the iron maiden arrow spam in prison of hope. (Also quickstep is great for every swamp/sludge area in ds3, even if you’re out of FP) 👌
Such a great video/series man. I’m sitting here at 6 in the morning at work arguing or agreeing with my phone at my desk 😂 You should be proud of these accomplishments and I can’t wait to see what you do in the future? How’d you find Armored Core?
Thanks so much man, glad ya enjoyed it! As for Armoured Core, believe it or not, I haven't actually played it yet haha. I'm sure I'll give it a shot at some point though, and no doubt make a vid on it too.
Firstly - amazing list and effort, so any criticism below is done completely separate to my appreciation for the fantastic job you have done here. Hirata Estate way too low Fishing Hamlet way way too low Ash Lake outside the top 100 whaaa Lord's Path and Dreg Heap way way too high - as decent as the level designs might be, the hostile time pressure of having to traverse them counts massively against them IMO.
Cheers mate! I did find Sekiro's levels a bit tricky to place with them feeling so different to the rest tbh. Regarding the Fishing Hamlet though, yes, I actually agree, I placed it too low haha - too late to change it now though!
I much prefer Ariandel (my fav DS3 level) over Ringed City. Ringed City is just overly crowded streets and a huge square with enemies placed like the demons after ceaseless discharge. I don't dislike it, but too much of it just feels like filler among otherwise great areas
I‘ve never disagreed this much with a ranking before but all power to you. Farum azula not being close to the top 5, fishing hamlet being so low and not a single sekiro area making it into the top 30 are choices that are absolutely baffling to me, but again, it‘s your opinion and i respect that
Sekiro's best areas are too low, imo. Fountainhead, Ashina Castle, Senpou Temple, and Hirata Estate would all make my top 25 at least. Your top 3 would all be in my top 5 though.
@@jarlwhiterun7478 Ashina Castle is not linear (it's on the level of Cathedral Ward with it's connectivity, there's paths to the Depths, Sunken Valley, Senpou, and the Outskirts when the Ministry's invasion occurs). I love how the area evolves as events in the story happens. Hirata has multiple side paths and tells the story of a raid on the estate. Fountainhead's Okami are some of the best regular enemies they've ever designed (enemy quality and placement are integral), the stealth sections are beautifully done and the aesthetics from the Sakura flowers, the dancing Okami, to the lake are amazing. The path forward is locked off by an enemy that acts as an environmental hazard, you then dive deep into a lake and avoid a giant carp, it is one of their more unique stages design wise. Plus, there are optional areas and side paths in all of them as well as a level of verticality to the design due to the grappling hook, wall jump, swimming and ledge hang mechanics. There's nothing quite like scaling Ashina Castle and taking out enemies. Idk, I just disagree with you on a fundamental level. In fact, Fountaihead and Ashina Castle would be in my top 5 along with Central Yharnam, Leyndell, and Stormveil.

Not just in these games, in any action game. Leyndell is absolutely perfect

Not blasphemous at all. Leyndell is a more full realization of their vision for Anor Londo. Almost like paying homage

interesting, high walll of lothric is one of the least memorable levels in all of the souls games
One of the best first levels with an ideal progression of difficulty, beautiful architecture and competent lvl design.
The level design itself is good but it feels like such a generic medieval fantasy area, too similar to the gates of boletaria visually imo
Interesting cause I remember it fondly more than many others
