- Today we look at the Foxwell NT809 Automotive Scanner. The Foxwell NT809 Automotive Diagnostic OBDII Scanner is an ALL SYSTEM scanner. This Foxwell scanner is able to read codes and reset codes in all the systems of your vehicle. It can communicate with all the modules in your vehicle including Engine, Transmissions, ABS, SAS, Body, Electrical, and more. Excellent Product. Be aware according to Foxwell's Website updates are free for 18 months. After that it is $200.00 for 1 year; $320.00 for 2 years; and $400.00 for 3 years. Excellent review. If I am wrong please correct me.
But is that the case for nt809

How many makes does it do key programming for?
Thanks for sharing. I was just looking on one last night & though about getting one. Does this reader tells you specifically what to replace? For example; if I have an abs light come on, will it tells me which one is bad?
No scanner on the planet will do that. What they do is give you the code that the vehicle has produced and then it will tell you what the code means. You have to test and make sure what is actually wrong. You have to understand that some codes can be generated by many factors. For example the ABS light could mean a bad brake sensor, or the ABS actuator, or a speed sensor, wheel sensor, brake pedal switch, neutral safety switch, or any number of things. Each manufacturer is different. So a scanner is only a starting point. That is why even the best mechanic needs to rely on his experience and not just the info from the scanner. This is a good scanner, but it is not the ONLY thing you will need to solve your problem.
Will this scan tool do Automatic Transfer Case relearn, read wheel speed to diagnose ABS lights, recalibrate hvac door actuators and look at diesel injector pulse in real time? Thanks

Does this read body control module, and transmission, also does this come with free lifetime updates? TIA
Yes, and Yes, but the updates are limited at the making of the video. This could always change it the future.
I'm trying to confirm if this tool will put my TCM into "quick learn" or "relearn" procedure. I'm replacing transmission with a new reman unit and must run a "relearn" on the TCM after install and before driving. Any chance you can tell me if this feature is included? Thanks in advance.
Yes it does have TCM relearn.
Do you know if does work well with Bmw, Audi and Volkswagens ? From ex: A4 2005 to current models

It does have transmission relearn. Don't know for sure if it will work on your vehicle. You can check with the Amazon seller by sending them your vehicle info and they can tell you for sure.

It should, but if you want to be certain, send a message to the seller on Amazon. They'll tell you for sure.
I notice on the website it says that it isn’t a bidirectional scanner so it can’t do active tests or programming. Do you know of a device that entails what this Foxwell nt809 can do, but also is bidirectional
It has some very limited Bidirectional controls that's why they say it doesn't do it. I will have a better scanner coming up real soon that does have extensive bidirectional control, key programing, security system programming, evap, and all that kind of good stuff. Stay tuned for that one.

I have an 05 Colorado and the windows don't roll up and down properly. I noticed a window up/down feature Can it tell me where to look? I've already done as much testing as I can and suspect it may be the BCM, which if I can find one would be a miracle I suppose.
I would contact the seller directly with this type of question. Since I don't have your vehicle there is no way for me to check in the scanner. It only loads a vehicle when you are connected.
Do you know if this unit reads injector balance rates on duramax LMM engines? Thank you
It does do injectors but I can't say if it will work on the Duramax since that is a Diesel and Diesel features are more limited. I suggest you contact the seller on Amazon. Give them your question and vehicle details and they can answer more accurately.

I have a 2004 Mercedes SL600 And I am having issues with the Vario Roof. It will not operate and I am wondering if this scanner will communicate with the Variable Roof Controller module(VRC) ? The roof does not retract. If this scanner does communicate with the VRC at what level ? Thank you and great video !
It may do, but I can't tell you for sure. Modules like that only show up when you have the scanner connected to the vehicle. Since I don't have the vehicle I can't say for sure. But the seller on Amazon may be able to answer that better for you.
I have a truck that I put a totally different training in it and engine and the problem is it shifts backwards you got to run it manual can this device reset the tranny to shift the right way
These scanners are made to train the transmission or engine to run in harmony with the program in the computer (ECM, TCM). Most times folks use it to retrain an engine or transmission that is just a direct replacement to the manufacturer parts. I don't know if you can train a Ford component to run in a Chevy (for example). The Computer may not accept the parameters. I don't think these scanners are smart enough to overwrite the ECM's programming.

Yes, I believe it can. You can always check with the seller and give them your vehicle info to make sure that it is compatible with this unit.

i ordered it last week. Good condition but one thing ive observe quick scan is not working for my corolla altis 2015, i already plug it into the vehicle and switch on the engine but does not work, im from asia. any good avised? Thanks..
Make sure you have selected everything correctly to identify the vehicle. This sounds like a communication problem where the scanner and vehicle aren't talking to each other properly. Do more in depth scanning and see if there are problems it can identify.

Your video is very informative and well done. I really like it. You mentioned a dongle in the video, but you elected not to get one. I'd like to get one to use with my new Foxwell NT809. Can you recommend one to me, cost, and place to purchase one. BIG thanks!
The only one that I know for certain works with this unit is sold by Foxwell. You can find it at the Foxwell website. Just look for the wireless dongle that is compatible with your model #. I would not recommend an aftermarket unit because it may fail to connect properly.

Hi, does the NT809 can detect each cylinder misfire?it said that the vehicle without a fault the output value range up 49.50. what if, if the engine having trouble with misfire in any particular cylinder what is the expected output value? are the output value is increasing or flat zero value?TIA

If it is not listed somewhere on the Amazon sales page, then go to the Foxwell store (website) and they have it there.
If you decide not to buy the updates can you still use this device?
Absolutely! The device is yours. The software you download is yours. What I suggest is that you get the latest update right before your expiration date. Then you know you're good for the long haul.
Hi, I recently received a brand new NT710. Day 1 activated, indicating 85% battery life. I completed the registration process online. I turned it off. A week later, and this is my first time using the NT710, I want to work on a car today, and I can't get the scanner to turn on. I hit the orange on/off button, and all I see is a green light flashing a few times and a blank screen. I pressed and held the on button for 3 seconds with the same results. Now that I have the scanner plugged into the wall charger, nothing has happened after two hours. Please assist if you have had this issue or have a solution. Thank you so much; I really appreciate it.
The problem is that you should have charged it fully when you received it. Just because it reads 85% does not mean that it actually has that charge. On all brand new battery powered devices the initial charge is not correct. The internal meter only reads the correct charge after several charge/discharge sessions. Your problem is that the battery is completely dead at this point. The only thing you can do is try to get the battery to come back to life and take a charge again. It is possible to revive it, you just have to keep trying. Plug it in and unplug it several times until the battery warms up enough to take a charge. You should also check to see if the charger is good or not. Use a different charger if possible.

What if you dont pay for the yearly update would everything still be the same until you pay for the yearly update?
Yes. The tool remains running forever, you just wont be able to update the software. It's just a hand held computer basically. Same as you are still able to use a Windows XP machine, but you no longer can get any updates.

Yes. Everything in the unit will remain fully functional. You just wont be able to get software updates.

I can't tell you because I haven't tested the Autel. I have no experience with the Autel. Anything I say would just be repeating stats from their web page, and I'm sure that's not what you are looking for.
Is it suitable for BMW and Mercedes old and new models.w 206 . w 204, w 211,..BMW..F 10 and F 25 ..?
It is only compatible with vehicles 1996 and newer. OBDII Systems.
Does it come with future updates included or, if not, what is the cost for each update. I am looking for a good scanner without costly add-ons and updates.

According to the manual, it does come with future updates and it does print via WiFi. Future updates are for a limited time, and the costs of future updates will vary. Aside from that it is a very complete scanner by what I can tell. It does more than what my current vehicles require, but like you I am planning ahead.
@@ModernDIYProjects All scanner buyers need to be aware of future cost of updates for their customer’s new vehicles. Companies set initial price low but make it up on the back end. The buyer never really owns the device. Most require yearly costly subscriptions. This one is more reasonable. Time will tell if future update prices goes up to a point of making the scanner more costly than a new one.
@@Jim_N Couldn't agree more. Autel which are pro scanners charge $600 a year after 12 months. Foxwell is a little more reasonable if they stay this price. When I see some updates, 50% are for cars I would never ever see much less work on. I have pleaded with Foxwell to charge for the file update not access to update 40 manufactures of which 10 I really need.
You never really own this device as long as they keep charging for updates every year!
My Foxwell NT809 does not give me the option to create separate folders for my two vehicles under Data Manager. Could you provide more information, please? Maybe I have overlooked that particular option. BIG thanks!
Hard to say what the problem is, but try these things. First make sure you have updated the firmware of your unit. Make sure you have the latest Android running. Then update any other software. Second, I think you have to hook up to the vehicle first, then when you start doing the diagnosis you can command it to save the data in it's own vehicle specific folder. It is not like a computer where you create a folder on your own. It has to create it for you once you have vehicle data loaded. When you have a job running, then it can save it in a folder. See if that helps.

Possibly, but I suggest that you wait. I will be doing an updated review for the latest version of this scanner coming up in a few weeks. Subscribe so you get notified as soon as I do that review. There is a newer version that is much improved over this one.
Can the scanner show each individual cylinder misfire status?
Yes it can, You can go and select that from the menu of items you want more detailed info on. You can graph it also (like I did the graphing in the demo) if you are doing testing to see where the misfire is.

You mean like for a Smog check? You go into Special Functions and find the Smog Check function.

No luck. In (EVAP/Smog test) only a few makes are available. (Acura, GM, Honda, Jaguar, etc..) I'm working on a Nissan
Which is better this or autel mk808 ?
They are both good scanners. The Autel from my experience just seems to be a little faster. Probably a faster processor.
does it work with apple computer to register and update?
Why would you need a computer to do an update? It connects through WiFi directly to the Foxwell server and does all the updates internally. No computer needed.

I'm not familiar with that unit (al536b) but let me put it this way. If it has WiFi then you don't need to hook it up to your computer. All you do is first go to the Foxwell website on your computer and create a new account (Email,Password, etc). It will ask you for the scanner details and then it will be registered and updated over the air. It does not need to be connected to the computer. If that unit does NOT have WiFi, then you will probably have to use an SD card and connect that to your computer to do all the updates. Since it is all done through the internet, I don't see any problems with whatever computer you want to use. If there are files that need to be downloaded, then you simply need a file utility program (I'm not familiar with what you would use on a Mac computers) and you simply copy the files from your computer to the SD card then out it back in the scanner. Those are the only ways I know of doing this.
Can this scanner work on a diesel vehicle?
Yes it does.
How is the tech support can you reach someone by phone
You probably can. But better than that, they have a service built into this machine that they call "Remote Assist" where they can help you over the air with any issues you have. But this unit is so easy (intuitive) to use I don't know why you would need any help.

Yes, it can be used on any 12V OBD2 system.

Yes it is. This one does everything the GT60 does, plus it has more reset functions.

The Xtool I think has a few more features than the Foxwell and has a faster processor. But they are both very good units.
Will it run if updates are skip
Yes. The scanner will work as long as you own it. The only thing missing will be updates, that is all.

Does it need WiFi to work
You only need WiFi to be able to update the unit. Aside from that you do not need WiFi. You may be able to connect it to your network via a network cable if you don't have WiFi.
Nice looking tool but if you don't know what all the numbers should look like, you're still out of luck. It'd be much better if it told you if the numbers were in an acceptable range. That could even be by color.
It does. I didn't show it in the video. As I said I could spend hours showing all the features of this scanner. As I was exploring some of the features, I found that some things that you scan will give you a "Normal Range" value next to what the reading is. So that right there tells you is it is working properly or not.
Now will it tell my diesel jeep to initiate a diesel exhaust filter clean cycle so I don't have to go to a dealer? ;)
@@klockk Yes it does. It works on Diesel engines also and the Exhaust Filter reset is one of the built in functions.
