How an Atheist Made Cops Come to Ray's House (and What God Taught Him)

  • Ray Comfort is no stranger to getting in trouble with atheists. But there was one instance that particularly stood out: an atheist crafted a clever scheme to get thousands, both Christians and non-Christians, to mock Ray... and even got the police involved. While this situation was by no means easy, it did teach Ray something very valuable that he shares in this video. He then transitions into a recent evangelism encounter he had.

One of the greatest parts of forgiving others is how freeing it is. All that garbage is gone and it's amazing. I held grudges for twenty years and would have arguments in my mind with any person that hurt me. This is so draining and time consuming and is not God's will. Now when these thoughts happen, I immediately forgive the person, ask God to forgive me for anything I did wrong, and hope that person forgives me also (unless I still see them and then I ask them to forgive me). That was wonderful that you sent that person a gift basket. I love your videos.

A couple years ago a person I had previously worked with took me to court for a restraining order, (the first and only time I ever been to a courtroom). I had left the job because mentally I was going down hill and I recognized it. So I went to court against this person and the judge asked me if I wanted to present evidence or accept the protection order for 1 year. I had been in prayer as to what to do up to this point and so after thinking about it I choose to accept the protection order for 1 year so that this person and their family would feel safe. I had chosen to forgive this person and to walk in forgiveness. Then for the next few months I did not talk about it with anyone outside of my family because I did not want to dishonor and disrespect this person to others. Let me tell you even though I had immediately chosen to walk in forgiveness the battle was just starting. Over the next year I had nightmares of being in court or being in a store and being chased by this person and not being able to get away. During the day sometimes every few minutes a random thought would come into my mind about this person then would suddenly get angry and bitter. Each time I would pray and ask God for help and pray the opposite for this person to how I felt. Usually I prayed that this person was blessed and had a great day. You know the verse that says in our weakness He is stronger? It hit me how this is what that verse was talking about. Our enemy was tempting me with this anger and bitterness because he knew it was still my weakness. But when I sought help from the Lord he gave me the strength to resist that temptation. After 1 year I could see this person around and no longer feel any of the anger I had felt before. All anger and bitterness to this person has stopped completely and I love them the way the Lord loves them. On the day the protection order expired I stopped having nightmares. Be encouraged if you are going through anger and bitterness right now. It won't be easy to let go and you can't just immediately switch it off. It may take even years, but keep fighting the good fight and rely upon the Lord to be your strength.

In my instance, I knew that having something false like that would limit me away from a lot of ministries I've been working in.
I prayed about it and felt _very_ uncomfortable with the idea of a worldly lawyer representing me.
I knew clearly that it was important to have someone who not only knows but shares my values for following the Lord and for allowing forgiveness and room for reconciliation (instead of vengeful spite).
*One of the most profoundly beautiful moments of peace I've ever experienced...* was sitting in the hall outside the courtroom praying with my lawyer. He had just told me that at any Church it was abundantly clear I was innocent. But the secular civil court doesn't care about Godly values and I often very biased against men. It didn't look good (earthly circumstances).
I remember _knowing_ that God is in control. That people were already lying to harm me, so they could do that more in court. But they can only do what God allows.
So I believed that God would protect me, but even if He allowed false witness to throw me in prison - He wouldn't do so without reason. He has good plans for my life, He is not a bad steward. So He isn't going to allow something purposeless to stop His purposes for me.
That day, I saw God use a civil court judge to see through the lies and be His agent of protection for me (ironically, clearing my name over the very matters church members refused to listen to truth and gave into slander over).
I have a strong sense of justice, so bitterness and wrathful thoughts & feelings were a struggle for me. I had to pray, asking God for help.
While driving to work the next morning, a pastor on the radio came on and talked about his a journey as a pastor, suddenly realizing he was bitter against his abusive alcoholic father, and his prayers and God-given inspirations about his fathers life that helped him forgive and let go and even see his father with some gratitude and respect.
Every once in a while, I will see or hear something that sparks an old thought train, and I will have to stop it and remind myself, "I've chosen to forgiven those people, and God has already helped me do that. They owe me nothing. No explanation, no I'm sorry's, no restitutions. My only hope for them is a sincere prayer that they will hear the Holy Spirit and repent, and we can all be glad that past things are done away with when we see each other in the joy of heaven."
The tightness and wrath recede, and I have peace once again.
For anyone struggling with repeatedly running into consequences that make it extra hard to forgive, I recommend listening to the lady who survived the Boston Marathon Bombing with her son at her feet (she wrote a book, and you can listen to her on a Family Talk interview).
For my own journey it was helpful to realize this:
As much damage as a particular person could try to do to me (they were being vindictively evil in return for my good toward them), even if they could maim me or kill me - they could _never_ amount to the harm I did to myself God stepped in and saved me from myself.
That vindictive person can steal, but he can't burn me in hellfire. - That's what I did to myself. (But God!)
So as much as I could be tempted to hate him, his wrong to me is insignificant! Compared to the evil of my own heart. He's not even on the same tier.
That really helped to put in perspective the little he has done and the gratitude for all God has done.

I want to say I really appreciate your videos. I grew up in Huntington Beach hanging out between life guard towers 3-5. I am a Christian. I have broken all 10 commandments. I know this to be 100% true. When I was young I thought I was a Christian because I believed in God, Jesus and Satan. It wasn't until later when I found the true meaning of Christianity being a personal relationship with my God and my Savior. I was washing a muffin pan for over a week trying to get it clean. The food would not come off no matter what I did. Day after day I tried. ( At this time of my life I was searching for God) This one morning I got up to try to get this muffin pan clean. My mind was on God and Jesus praying in the background of my brain, while I was attempting to get the pan clean. All the sudden I was overwhelmed and heard with my heart to my ears a voice telling me. You ( meaning me) are the muffin pan. I have been trying to wash you clean but you keep holding onto the filth. It was the Holy Spirit taking to me. I understood at once that it was me holding onto the filth, that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit had always been there but I was the one not letting go. I was saved the day, that moment, that very instant. I welcomed Jesus and understood the depth of his suffering for my sins, It became personal. He not only died for me but suffered for me, for my sins and that even so, he still wants me. It was beautiful. And guess what happened next... That muffin pan actually finally came clean within a few minutes and so did I. I am learning so much from you on how to approach people about the Lord, so thank you for what you do for the Lord and the lost souls. I would really like to learn more

It's crazy how when you're in a state of unforgiveness, it feels good to hold a grudge against the person who hurt you. Just thinking about revenge gives satisfaction and it feels like we are relieving our anger. But in reality, the anger will always stay there and get even worse the longer you are angry at the person. It's like cutting a tree and years later, seeing that scar on the tree. It's not until you forgive the person from the depth of your heart, will you be relieved of that burden. Smoking weed isn't a sin. It's the only plant on the planet that does what it does, without any side effects as well. A practical panacea you can use for everything and grow it in your back yard! Medicinal and spiritual use is well established. Lots of elderly people smoke as well, helps them with their joints pains and other such things they may have. As an adult who's been smoking for 5 years, I've taken many multi month long breaks and never had any ill effects. A lot of the anti weed stuff is propaganda made by the pharmaceutical industry because pills make more money than something you can grow in your backyard.

This has worked for me in more ways than I can tell. I used to have intrusive thoughts to hate my someone for what they did to me in the past. God gave me the idea to pray for this person every time the thought came, I started praying for his safety, salvation and every good thing I could think off. Needless to say, when the enemy realised that he was just giving me an opportunity to pray for this person, the thoughts just stopped. God also used this to heal my heart.

If you feel yourself backsliding my tips are to listen to audio bible or read through the Bible or watch even kids Bible videos cartoons, anything wholesome to get the Bible stories and scripture fresh in your mind. The better you know and are familiar with the word the more it can protect you from sliding back towards sinful ways.
I watch more Christian stuff here on YT than films or shows on Prime or Netflix now... The difference it has made to me to stay immersed in scripture or clean content is huge.

I totally agree with you, Ray. The only thing is we are required to forgive, but not reconcile because if the other person continues to hurt you, I don’t believe it is God honoring to continue to expose yourself to a toxic person who has nothing but ill will towards you. Scripture says to be at peace with one another as long as it depends on you and if it is possible. Sometimes it’s not possible. Forgive, but move on. It’s okay to shake the dust off of our feet when we continue to present good things to another person and desire to resolve things, but that other person doesn’t choose to listen. Love everything you are doing, Ray!

    Thanks for these!
There's often been times where I have been wronged, as well, and it feels like it takes time for the wounds to heal and not to get stuck in a 'rut' of trying to fight off the feeling of resentment.
This was a very good reminder to focus more on God's forgiveness and His strength, and to forgive likewise.
Further though, a note: we are called to be "casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
Part of this seems to be taking down arguments: but I think also what is most important is demonstrating God's love toward us in how we interact with one another. Many people seem to have completely shut down rationality in order to seek any excuse to hate God, and placing the 'tearing down' of their arguments over representing Christ's love seems unwise.
What you did in this video towards that atheist who impersonated you - that is, when you found out who he was, you sent him a gift basket - seems to be far more important to do than simply pointing out the flaws in their reasoning. "To give truth to him who loves it not is but to give him more plentiful material for misinterpretation", as a quote goes.
If someone is that far gone into evil that they've shut off their ears and given themselves over to deception, only God's love can shake them awake, I think. So it is for any of us: we need to see God's love. Some have sought to harden themselves to this, yet if they still breathe, it's not too late.
So: to any reading, I think it wise to note: any time you're in a discussion and it seems to be degrading to mud-flinging (often in the guise of 'proving something wrong') - remember Christ and His love and seek to forgive. Beware pride.
Ray often brings up Jesus's last words on the cross: "It is finished." And how wonderful they are.
Remember what else Jesus said on the cross, too: for us, and those around us: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do", even as they spat, tore, mocked, and murdered.
Jesus is the one that gives the increase: and we're to mirror Him.

Jesus taught me a very powerful lesson in forgiveness. Three women hurt me with a lie about me, and it made me very angry.
I felt a strong tug of war on my conscience. I tried to justify my anger, but knew if I wanted peace, I had to forgive them. After a few weeks, I made the decision to forgive. At first, my emotions were off the chart. But in a little while, peace came, and I was able to be on friendly terms with them.
Forgiveness works! But you have to disregard your feelings and be obedient to God's way. It's so worth it! 😊🤗👍💕🙏

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20, KJV)

I'm an atheist myself. Lousy people come from all walks of life. We should all treat each other with respect and compassion...because we have our humanity in common.

Barbara. Great to have you here. I have a question for you. Do you really believe the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything. Let me know. Best wishes, Ray Comfort

@@LivingWaters thank you Ray. No I don't, but we don't know that there was ever a nothing. We have no evidence that before our universe was nothing, so it is a belief without support. But thank you for the question

@@reality1958 You missed the point. 😊. An atheist doesn’t believe there was nothing in the beginning. They believe that nothing CREATED everything. Utterly impossible. Scientifically ludicrous. I hope that makes sense.

@@LivingWaters no I don't Ray. I do my level best to stay away from assumptions.
      1. We don't know if there is existence beyond/before our universe
      2. I don't believe nothing created anything and I don't know anyone who does. Scientific evidence tells us there was a cause...we just don't know what the cause is...yet
Thank you for the reply however.

@@reality1958 You’re an atheist, therefore you believe everything came from nothing, which is impossible.

Ray's example of a positive prayer:
"God, I come to you in Jesus name,
I pray for the wisdom of God to fill my soul.
I pray for a love of righteousness, and a burden for the lost.
I pray for a courage that will cause me to reach out and speak words of wisdom to those who are in the shadows of death.
Oh God, use me for your glory.
    Open doors.
    Open my understanding.
    Teach me from your word."
    God bless

Having one speck of anger or hatred in your heart keeps you from being able to love unconditionally. Forgiveness is the answer. God bless us.

better to have no friends that would have to lead you to hell, than to have no friends that cant trick you into doing evil things.
