    Holy cow this worked BEAUTIFULLY. I just had a foot of hair cut I to a classic Bob with bangs (I’ve had this style before). I have MASSIVE amounts of hair and wanted to keep top layer one length but get rid of that bell shape. Used your technique and five minutes later it’s exactly what I wanted. I’ve cut my own bangs ff over a decade and added layers around the face, so I’m not afraid to thin it. Thank you!!!

    I'm a natural redhead/strawberry blonde person, although I have to color it now. My hair is just like yours, but thinner in the front. I stupidly cut it during covid after having it long and all one length. I've been struggling ever since. Finally, I went to a salon to fix it and it's even worse...terrible uneven layers on top and a sudden drop to extremely blunt at the back. No bulk was taken out and now I know how I can do it myself. The back is always a challenge since I live alone, but it's worth a try. Thank you!!

      @@DawnsLifeover40Yes, I agree. I haven’t been to a hairdresser in years because of bad experiences. My husband cuts my hair into a bob cut but it’s much too thick. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you! 🙏🏻

    Thanks for this video, Dawn! I was googling for a technique to thin my new blunt bob today, and yours came up. This is exactly what I needed. I have fine hair, but am blessed with a lot of it, and I need a way to create more volume on top. I'm going to try this tomorrow. BTW, I'm a former pixie cut gal and I used a Flowbee for years. But a Flowbee has its limitations. LOL

    Hi Dawn, your hair style and length is so darling on you! I thin my own hair too and have for years. I love cutting hair as well and used to give perms to co workers. I love doing men’s hair with clippers. I didn’t go to beauty school but my sister did and she owned a shop for 40 years. You did a great job thinning your and explaining it so this video will be so helpful to many people. Thanks for sharing this Dawn! Much love, Sheila

    You did a phenomenal job, Dawn. Thanks for the video. I do what to add some pointers for those that maybe want more info. Hope this helps.
    You start 4 inches (4 fingers) down so that there isn’t all these little hairs sticking out, especially when you put it up. The hairs will stick out and it looks horrible. So she is correct about starting further down from the head. You should also never do the bottom 2 inches in the back, the sides two inches where the ears are, two inches of front the head, and the crown two inches (each side.) This is so that all the hair blends in seamlessly. Thoroughly brush/comb through all hairs, so the trimmed hair all comes out. Especially if you have long hair. You think you get it all and then you have hair falling out and all over you.
    Also when you wet your hair, it stretches out. Therefore, you cut more than you thought you did. So when you dry your hair, you will see the difference in length. They say cutting your hair dry causes split ends, but I just make sure to treat it after I cut my hair to prevent dead and split ends. I stopped cutting my hair wet when I did all the research I needed over 15 years ago and I have yet to be disappointed with the results. I also never had a complaint from ppl that have asked for me to do their hair.
    Hope this is helpful. I know a lot of you feel like Dawn and I, do. We are tired of all the disappointment and money wasted on hair cuts. I have left different salons upset; so I took matters into my own hands. Also a lot of videos aren’t helping those who are new to doing their own hair and it causes mistakes. Been there, done that. Lol. So with this awesome videos and a few of the tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years. I am sure it will help many of you guys.
    Stay bless. Stay woke. Stay you.

      I'm going to try this today with the back of my hair... just got a hair cut and I think because my hair is thin on top, the hair dresser didn't thin it in the back (just did some scissored in layers). But my hair is INCREDIBLY thick at the back too, and now I have triangle hair 😂 ugh. Fingers crossed this fixes it for me.

    Loved this video. I’ve just started to cut my own hair too. My hair is also very thick and like you I’m tired of hairdressers that I end up being unhappy with plus the price always is like $100 - $130. How I cut my hair is, using a mirror, I tie my hair in a pony tail and cut across while leaving the front hair tied up so it can stay longer for the V Shape effect. Then I have someone help me clean up the back to straighten any fly aways and use a comb to cut the front hair to blend it with the back hair creating that V look.

    Oh my goodness, you have so many talents, Dawn....you are quite the renaissance woman!! I will only occasionally trim my side layers around my face if they aren't falling quite right, but I would never do anything more than that or even try to color my hair either like you do. Of course I don't have mine all one color, since I also have highlights put in it. That was interesting to see you do that though. Hope you are having a fun weekend. That's such a good tip about the hair placement in the thinning shears. I cut my own hair too and have done since June 2018! My daughter was born on 12th June 2018 and spent 8 weeks in NICU, I didn't want to go to a hairdresser during/after that time as I was sure they'd ask how I was doing, or what I'd been up to, and I just couldn't bring myself to talk about the whole experience/situation so I just stayed away! Silly really! 🙈 That hair style really suits you, wish I had lovely thick hair, mine is so fine! Congratulations to Tami! Hope you're having a great weekend! Xx

      That must have been a very stressful time. I don’t think I would have been able to get my hair done for the same reason. My son spent a couple of months in the hospital when he was 15 months old and just getting myself dressed each day and back to the hospital was a feat in itself. Thanks for sharing sweet Jo!!

    • @denisemoye495
      @denisemoye495 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apparently it should be teeth on top and cut at an angle for even regrowth - plus never cut the top section or hairline or it might show through. Plus never ever cut near the root, it should always be mid shaft or further down or you’ll get spiky bits of hair sticking out.

    Oh my you are a brave gal. I would probably end up with a bald spot on one side or another. I love this bob cut on you and I am sure it is easy to care for. Easy breezy and cute.
    A video on teeth whitening would be great. We can always learn a thing or two.
    Working at my friends house today until 5pm. Sunday’s are when I meal prep for the other caretaker for 3 days so she does not over feed him such large portions. I have to take him to an in office doctors appointment tomorrow which is his first outing since 3-13. It should be quite the task with him wearing a mask.😷 He does not always understand the gravity of the situation and his stubbornness can be a challenge.

Had a lot of hair and curly. I've lost so much hair now due to medical conditions and age of course. Everyday I lose bundles kinda like the amount you cut off. Lol! Thanks Dawn. Boy, you are brave! I am a danger to myself with thinning shears. The same lady has cut my hair for years and when I was between appointments and had waited to long I tried the thinning shears and really screwed up my hair. I had watched a different TH-cam video and even with that, I messed up my hair. My hairdresser and I had a good laugh about it though. I just don't have the magic ouch I guess. My hair is also a bob and extra thick but I have some layers so it's tricky. Also, the right side of my hair has a different texture and is flatter. My hairdresser said it probably b/c I sleep on that side. Anyway, good job with your hair.🌞

I tried this before and over time I noticed my head started to look mushroom shaped lol (forgive my poor explanation) ? I hope you understand what I’m saying

      Hi there!
      I haven’t had that experience. It thins my hair softly, just removing pieces of hair in different places. It’s not blunt like when you use traditional scissors. When it grows out the softness remains. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching🌷

    • @DawnsLifeover40
      @DawnsLifeover40  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Julie!
      The teeth should face upwards. So your index finger would be in the smaller hole and your thumb i the larger hole, pinky finger can rest on the little handle that sticks out. I hope this is helpful. Go slow. You can always thin more if needed.
      Have a great day 🌷🥰
