Ed Melaugh is the best prctitioner of Small circle Jujitsu that I have ever trained with, Other than Prof. Wally Jay himself. If you have ever have the chance to train with him you will not be dasappointed.
S.C.J. can be quite effective in certain situations. However, I have never seen it demonstrated against weapons, e.g. club, knife or pistol. How can you execute with it when the hand completely encircles a weapon? No fingers to jam/lock .. ?
It's the same thing. Initially the hand is closed tightly about the weapon. But that is only initially. Can still execute armbars and wrist locks and strikes and kicks and throws, etc. The hand will open up. The meat of thumb joint is usually available. The wrist is there, exposed. Quick proper strike to wrist and hand will open, weapon will go flying. Finger Locks are NOT the only thing SCJJ does, you know. A gun at 20 or 30 feet away, or more, nothing much you can do there. Except duck and roll and run and hide. SCJJ incorporates many elements of other martial arts, primarily Judo, of course. I believe Ed Melaugh is also trained in Wing Chun or something like that. I forget right now. Funny you haven't seen SCJJ vs weapons, since Knife Defenses is one of its key elements. Again, guns are another thing. At a distance you are at big trouble. But of course at a distance a knife can be thrown at you.
