I remember finding this channel a while back and feeling so inspired to get out and explore the world. Now I'm flying to Thailand this week to start my adventure! Thanks Matt for showing us the right way to live and giving inspiration to people like me. Yeah dawgies!
I've trained in Thailand several times. It's an amazing country with incredible people, and the food is fantastic (if you're in to exotic dining experiences). Have fun and stay safe! I guarantee you'll never forget your time there.
I have never seen anyone so appreciative of nature and the desire to provide from a natural design. It is so impressive that I have literally watched every video. You good sir, make life look good.
It is always nice to see like-minded people. People who love adventurer and the outdoors, people who inspire others to explore the world. Love your videos, man; keep up the excellent work.
Matt the freshwater catfish we have here in the USA are exeptional eating. There are three main species, channel catfish, blue catfish, flathead catfish. They all are great table fair. The saltwater catfish we have are not the greatest of eating. The bloodline in the most catfish species makes them taste like mud from the bottom of the waterway they live in, so we just bleed the fresh caught fish out or remove the bloodline off of the fillets.
Agreed. Was gonna say the blood line on the catfish he had basically almost covered the fillet. I could tell it was gonna taste like shit when I saw the blood line 😅
Great video as usual. What you might not have been told by people here in the US about catfish is that we have several different types. There is blue catfish, channel, silver, mud, flathead and they are not all created equal. Some are great tasting and some are really bad but even the good ones have a couple of tricks to make them taste good. When you clean them, and take off the skin, you have to remove all the red between the skin and meat, some of them also have a lot of fat between the skin and meat that has to be removed to taste good and some of them, no matter how you clean them will never taste good.
Exactly. But some ppl don’t even know we have different catfish. They go to the store and ask for catfish. They don’t know what type it is. Even though most in store are farm raised.
Another American here😂 and listen to this dude because I don't eat fish 😂. I just watch the channel to learn how to do this stuff just in case I need to, you know 🤷! But even though I don't eat fish, I do know there is more than one kind of catfish. I don't know how many Australia have though🤔🤷. You want to learn how to fish come to America and watch how these southern folk catch catfish!!!! Those catfish in the south are monsters. Like hundreds of pounds.

In the us (Florida) where I live we have a few different types of catfish. If they come from a good source with clean water and not a muddy bottom they are really good. Just a mild white fish.
Try the catfish ( maybe from a bigger cat)battered and fried like chicken. Just a suggestion. Love all the videos, and thank you for sharing your adventures Big Dawg! One day I want to eat a mud crab after watching so many on your channel!
Catfish eating American here - can confirm that this is the way to do it. Catfish meat has a lot of moisture so I recommend cooking it a little longer than you would think you need to in order to get a better texture.

Hate to say it but I'm with Big Matt, catfish have a muddy taste compared anything from the ocean!!thanks for the awesome adventure, can't wait for the next one!! Till then peace ✌ out my friend
I'm so happy you gave your genuine reaction to the catfish, here in Jamaica we too do not eat them at all but they are plentiful in ponds. I've never tasted them but I've heard they taste like mud so it was great seeing your take on it. My favourite fish is mullet, no special seasonings, just roasted on a fire and some pepper and salt and mmmmmm don't even need the pepper, fantastic fish
You need to pull the mud vein in the catfish, if cooked and not pulled it taints the taste. Very good deep fried in batter 😊 But I get why you don’t care for it, considering the quality of everything else you catch and eat. I’d give anything to be able to do what you do, keep on keeping on friend, the husband and I love your channel. Much love to you Maky ❤
On one of your earlier videos from two years ago, you told people to just get out and enjoy the outdoors. So, on a whim I packed my backpack and headed to The Badlands National Park in South Dakota. I purposely chose a rather harsh yet beautiful area. I had to pack in a gallon of water 💧, plus what was in the Camelback. I hiked in six miles and spent the night. It was almost 90⁰ and windy. It got down to a peaceful 54⁰ that evening. I could hear the coyotes at night. I also saw a rattlesnake. I packed in my eReader, but didn't read much and just enjoyed my environment. I ate a meal of spaghetti 🍝, a backpacking meal. I'm now fifty-seven years old. I will try and do these adventures while I still can. I hope that you inspire people, especially young people, to get out and make their own adventures!.
Matt have you ever used a fire bellows? It’s basically a straw for blowing on coals in a precise place to help get a fire going. I keep and old antenna as a collapsible one. American Catfish guy here. I am going to say the same thing pretty much every American is saying. I always have fresh caught catfish in the fridge. Catfish are fantastic but we primarily eat Channel and Flatheads here. On occasion a Blue or bull. Channels and Flatheads are our main eaters depending on where you are from. We bread or batter our catfish here. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to do though when you are making survival videos. Honestly, if I was where you are from I would probably feel the same way considering how many good tasting fish are out there. We also cut the red meat out of catfsh. I think you would enjoy it if you had it American style. I love catfish but you just can't beat fresh tuna or snapper. Anyway, keep it going for us brotha. Love the videos!! P.S. I think what you caught is a hardhead catfish. Which I have never tasted.

Soak the catfish for 24hrs in ice water, that will help pull the fishy oils out the meat and also allow the meat to absorb seasonings and spices a lot better but it will also make the meat taste so much better period and one more thing catfish is mainly battered and deep or pan fried.
