We just lost Jimmy Buffet (September 1, 2023) at the age of 76. He died at home surrounded by family, friends, music and his dogs. I just heard the news on Saturday, Sept 2nd. It's not even 7:00 am here in NYC. Rest in peace Jimmy.
Long ago in 1973 at McKendree College in Illinois in the deneen about 10 of us friends sat around an unknown singer who was delightful and funny. Who knew! Jimmy Buffet was amazing and we had just been serenaded by a star.😊

Buffet suffered from Merkel cell cancer, which he was diagnosed with four years before his death, his website said. For years my cover band played two tribute nights each year in June and September at my friend's restaurant/lounge. Always well attended and Lots of Fun. We were Parrotheads for sure. My friend that sponsored the show saw Jimmy in what would be his final concert. Thank you Jimmy for being the inspiration of so much music and fun. I always loved singing your songs! Prayers for your family, and also my fellow parrotheads. 😢🙏🙏🐦🐦

Just read that he passed. Got my 1st tattoo when I was 19 because of this song...stayed here all season and nothing to show but this brand new tattoo. The ink is long faded but the memory is great. I saw him in concert in hawaii when I was stationed there, it was an awesome and fùn concert. To all the parrot heads let the party continue.

I wasn’t a big fan, but I knew a Parrot Head. I asked her what she loved so much about Jimmy several years ago and she said, “honey, it’s an island thing. You’ll never understand it.” Jimmy provided a sense of escapism for his fans, and sang about the happy times in life we should all treasure and never take for granted. I get it now after seeing all of these tributes pouring in for the man, and the legacy he left behind. #RIPJimmy
