It's his birthday today and I'm having mixed feelings. He passed before I was born, but I miss him a lot anyway and it's just sad that he didn't get to grow older, it's crazy thinking that he'd be 55 today. But birthdays are a celebration of life and if I were gone, I wouldn't want people to be upset over it all the time. So today I'm just celebrating the life that he did have, and this really cheered me up so thanks for making it. Rest in peace, Layne, and happy birthday. If there's an afterlife or a heaven, I hope you're up there, having some cake 💜
Im the same age as him but I know vastly more about him and AIC now and appreciate them far more than I did back then, even when he died, I remember having read that he'd been a recluse but that was it, there was no easy way to find out anything about people before the internet, I remember I was in a band and we played Man in the Box and introduced it as in honor of LS, prolly just days after he died but it wasnt a big deal to me...if Idve known then what i know now Idve been deeply affected. Back then Kurt Cobain was the main person you heard about all the time but not too much about Layne.
I had the chance to see them in '91 or '92 opening for Ozzy. But I had worked 12-14 hour days 5 days in a row and I was exhausted. Plus I'd never heard of them. In hindsight I wish I had told my boss to kiss my ass. Now I'll never get to hear him live.
my aunt breifly met layne in '90 or '91, at his apartment in seattle with demri and a few other people. my aunt was 19 or 20 at the time and she was quite shy as she didn't know anyone there. layne noticed she was uncomfortable and shyly gave her a popsicle. it's very simple and she told the story to me while shrugging, though i think it really shows how sweet layne was. he was a funny, sweet guy who i wish i could've seen in my lifetime. he wouldn't want to be remembered for how he withered away; he'd want to be remembered for how kind he was and his sense of humor. we miss you, layne
Just his quiet soft normal speaking voice was a total shock, when you sat there and were like “This is Layne Fing Staley with those out of this plant belts of his voice and he speaks so softly and that laugh!” I always loved when you’d hear that familiar soft mischievous laugh from the stage💗💔
This compilation really captures just how funny Layne was, which is something that comes up again and again whenever his friends speak of him. And that laugh! How he should be remembered, thank you 💞
I could not stop laughing the first time I saw that- little scrappy Layne- that guy was probably starting to consider sweeping him off the stage and then Sean stands up and blocks out the sun 😂
He should still be here. My heart aches watching vids about him. What a great human being he was. Its so F-up that he didnt want to live, he was so so loved. Ill forever grieve for you Layne. You were something beyond special. Miss you. 💔
I’m sure he did but he couldn’t get out of the hole he was in, the guy even had a song scheduled the week they found his body. I’m sure the last thing he wanted was to go like that
He wanted to live, just not in the condition he was in. The damage to his body was too extensive. He wasn’t using to get high anymore. He was using to prevent the excruciating pain of being dope sick and his body failing and rotting away. He went into rehab about a dozen times. He tried. 😢
His talking voice is naturally funny either its funny or just makes me smile because its Layne he has the best speaking voice and singing vouce of all time i literally try to sound like him since i was 14 i actually got his speaking voice down pat its pretty easy but singing like him is very very impossible he had very awesome amd powerful unuque voice the greatest of all time 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘😎😎😎😎😎😎

This kinda made me feel more sad than in awe. I wonder what exactly drove this grunge generation to their early grave. Was it the drugs, or were the drugs just a symptom of some underlying issues. I'm just thankful that it manifested itself in some of the most moving intense music ever done while it lasted. RIP Layne, and the others ...
