    Hi Sameer, for someone in their final year of college looking to take the GMAT (through self-study) to apply for deferred MBA programs in the US (March-end deadlines) when should the GMAT be taken? I’m unsure of how much time other parts of the application typically take.

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  ปีที่แล้ว

      For any program we generally recommend getting the GMAT done at least 6-12 months in advance. Since the first attempt may not get the expected results, there has to be enough buffer for retakes. Which means starting on the test prep around 1.5 years before the expected deadlines. That's because different folks may need different timeframes to cover the ground. Have you take any competitive exams earlier which have overlapping topics with GMAT?

    Thank you very much, your TH-cam channel is very helpful, I have seen many videos about MBA on your channel.
    I need your advice, what is your opinion on MBA at Maastricht School of Management?

    • @MBACrystalBall

      Thanks for your kind words! Maastricht MBA is not counted among the top globally. In the latest MBA rankings, the Netherlands has only 2 bschools listed - Rotterdam and TIAS. Is there any specific reason you have Maastricht on your list? Are you considering other (higher ranking) MBA programs too?

    I have just completed my MBA, commencement set for May 17th, 2024.
    My background is in warehouse labor supervisor union and non- union, but I want to transition into an investment banker position. How do you craft a resume that can lead me down that road?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's tough to 'craft' a CV just before applying to investment banks. Many recruit directly from their target programs. If you're business school isn't a feeder into the banking industry, you'll have to be proactive in reaching out to them. You'll find how to do that on the websites. Make sure you understand the nuances, as opposed to sending a ton of resumes to all the top banks. If you have alumni working for those banks, see if they'd be willing to give you a referral.

      Three questions to understand this better, since we're not very familiar with these 2 programs.
      - Assuming it's like any other EMBA with in-person classes at regular intervals, how would you manage contact classes (in Australia?) while being in India. Or are both these India-based options?
      - What was your reason for choosing these two over other higher ranking bschools?
      - What's your expectation from the degree?

    • @farhankiller50
      @farhankiller50 ปีที่แล้ว

      - Both are India based options, with Delivery method being online, In classroom would not be possible.
      - Reason of choosing them is cost at which they are offered, with same merits of doing it Full time, it 3-4 times cheaper then FT programs they have
      - Expectations would be career growth in same company and learnings of Business principles beyond India or Global nature of program, Having MBA tag along with Skills, than not at all having it, as FT won't be possible for me

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@farhankiller50 Thanks for clarifying. Online programs are generally still not considered on par with full-time programs since their entry criteria aren't strongest enough and they enroll almost everyone who applies. So there's no guarantee of quality. Have you checked with your HR whether they value these qualifications? That's the best way of getting a signal on how the market perceives it. If they don't seem to excited, then be careful about enrolling. It's also a little strange that they call this EMBA, when it's an online MBA.

      Management consulting firms offer jobs at different levels in their front/mid/back offices. Front office roles are the most desired and the most competitive. They're also fewer in number. The number of mid/back office roles are significantly more. But they pay less and it can be tougher to move out of it and into front office roles at a later stage. A few questions for you.
      1. Have you thought about which of these roles you want to get into?

      Thanks for being so honest about your thinking process. From what you've shared, it appears that consulting is less of a primary well-though-out choice and more of a stop-gap arrangement before you figure out a way to get an MBA. Though nothing wrong in thinking that way, there's always the chance that you may not be happy working in a role that was a backup option for you.
      Investment banking requires quant skills, and has nothing to do with having a science background. If you are handling the rigorous CA curriculum, why does IB still look intimidating?

      Just like consulting, IB also has front office and back office roles. For front office roles, you'd require an elite MBA. The skills required for backoffice roles aren't too sophisticated. They require many commerce grads and CAs for operational work. Have you checked out any job descriptions for IBs? Do you have friends working in investment banks who can give you a warm introduction to the HR team?

      Have graduates from your college gone into banking jobs? Which banks do they target?
      If it's a multinational bank, the brand recall will be helpful.
      To answer your earlier query, you can reach out to us after you have a couple of years of work experience.

      In Nepal there is no placement system so all the graduate have to find the job himself for experience! We have to hustle in the market for job .I think only standard chartered bank is multinational in Nepal not other multi national banks exists here!
      One more thing should I start the GMAT preparation just after the completion of my BBA with Also doing my job . Is that will be helpful I guess!

      There's no urgency to take the GMAT, since you aren't applying in the next few years. We have a video explaining the timeline for working on MBA applications. Watch it to get an idea of how you can plan.
      Btw, it doesn't have to be a multi-national bank. What's important is that you get into a role where you can learn and grow. That shouldn't be so difficult, right?

      For the top schools, 750+ would be a good score to target. Do you think you'll be able to get into that range?
      The bigger challenge would be to justify the big career gap. Were you doing anything other than preparing for the entrance exams?
