Would you guys like to see more videos like this? Also, would you guys rather me shut up so you can hear the car and that's it or throw in some commentary here and there? Also, what other Type R content would you guys like to see? Thanks for checking out the video guys and for any opinions too!
+Ferny Jr. Thanks for the tip! I've actually got one on the way. Well, two actually. I'm going to put one under the hood so I can get some better audio of the engine and turbo noises etc and then one in the cabin too.
You are over extending your arms. Need to sit closer to the wheel. Your arm shouldn't be fully extended when making those turns. You'll find much better control of the wheel with your elbows bent slightly at full 90. Car sounds great and let these wineOs keep complaining because this car set rec9rds on the ring and for a FWD that's amazing. Not to mention the fact it's a first time production for the States coupled with the "potential this car has. I'd say 1-2 years from now you could have a 500hp monster with very minor modifications.
ClayBornEv1.0 Thanks for the helpful recommendation! It's funny as that was one of the things I did the next time I drove the car after looking at my video haha. It wasn't so obvious at the time but when watching the video it was clear as day which isn't something I've had an issue with in my current play toy of the last couple years, my S2000. I'm so cramped in there at 6'2 I'm up on the wheel so I haven't had to mess around on that front. Still playing head games with me though with not having to worry oversteer and just being able to point and shoot. Lol yeah, all the nay sayers of the car are just going off of looks alone and hate on the car without even hopping behind the wheel. Looks are of course opinions and everybody has one but there's no getting around the facts that Honda built one stout package that's well worthy of the R badge. I've wanted the CTR before I could drive and thankfully after all these years I'm finally able to say I own one and nobody's ill opinion of the car can ruin my fun. I do feel sorry for these guys that have nothing better to do though than to search for content on X car just to talk shit. Always entertaining! Thanks again man!
To reinforce what was stated, when sitting with your back and shoulders against the seat, you should be able to rest your wrist on the top of the steering wheel. That is a good start to having your arms with just the right amount of bend (about 90 degrees at elbow) while holding the wheel at 9 and 3. I am sure having so much more room in the Type R over the S2000 is a lot to get used to.
ClayBornEv1.0 pretty sure you can pull the wheel towards you too. loosen the lever to make the wheel go up and down and try pulling it instead and see if the steering wheel comes out further. it does it on the Si's so it should on this
+spooksmagee Yes sir, don't do what I did kids. Not to make excuses by any means, it's hard to tell in the video with the a-pillar in the way but it was a long straight with a slight kink to where I could see for a while so I had plenty of room to make it by. As a motorcycle rider, I absolutely hate people making passes on the mountains where you don't have enough visibility to where a bike coming the opposite direction quickly could surprise you. Happens to me all the time, so when I'm on 4 wheels instead of 2 I always put myself in their shoes. Thanks for checking out the video and for posting up too, much appreciated ;)
As a bike rider and a speed-thru-blind-curve driver, I hope you don't have as many deer in Tennessee as we do up here in PA. Almost a guarantee you'll be breaking hard for one in the fall...
spooksmagee lines ARE OPTIONAL. It's those ASSHOLES on speed-bicycles that don't have a CLUE about yellow lines. Somebody should lol do a video of them all getting plowed over by a pickup truck hanahahahahahahaha
When you went to get financing what credit score was needed, length of job and down payment? I'm curious because I'd like one of these. I've had a few hiccups and my score sits at a 540, information would be helpful thanks.
When there's no traffic at 4way stops, try cornering it really fast. It will shock you how fast it corners while staying planted to the road, tires has ridiculous amount of grip. Its such a blast to drive fast.
Peter Raizis I may be a bit biased but I've gotta agree 110% on that comment haha! If you like it in pictures and videos etc then you'll really be in love once you see one in person... I wasn't 100% sold on her "looks" wise until I saw her in person and I fell in love with every aspect of the styling.
Nice car, btw you don't have to drive it like an NA car i.e. holding revs a thousand below red line threw corners that car will pull better out the corners being up a gear
+Karl Manifold Thanks man! You hit the nail on the head 110% man. It's been a decade or so since my last turbo Honda build any everything in between has been NA so I'm waaaay out of practice on those fine details like you mentioned. This was my first real "run" with her so it really was a learning experience and that's what I love about having it on video, I can go back and see where I made mistake and there was plenty of them lol. Next trip out I'll definitely be taking advantage of its power down low when compared against my S2000 so I can just use that 140 lb/ft more worth of torque to just drive out of the turn. Thanks for checking out the video and for not being an ass with your friendly suggestions like so many others have been lately haha. Appreciate it man.
You mentioned s2000 which I used to owned and never been happy with other cars, they are just not as much fun. How would you compare this to s2000 for driving fun?
+sujanpoudel Hmmm, very good question... That's actually something I'm working on putting together in a blog post over at www.HondaProKevin.com as I've been having a lot of people ask me that. I've only had one good outing of raising hell in the Type R right now so keep in mind my opinion may slightly alter some over the next couple months after I've got some more mountain runs, autocross and track day action added to my experience of the Type R. With that being said... The S2000 is still the winner for overall fun factor, the "experience" that it brings to the table just can't be matched. No amount of horsepower in my opinion can really give you that x-factor (can't think of a better word lol) that the S2000 has. When at the ragged edge, it just ticks all the right boxes. The agility and the sound that it emits at 9,000 RPM is intoxicating as it feels like the engine is sitting in your lap. You have to give it 100% of your undivided attention when pushing it due to its handling characteristics otherwise its infamous snap-oversteer or some like to call "twitchiness" can bite you in the ass real quick. At the end of a run, I feel more accomplishment because it took every last ounce of skill I had to keep it planted and the tail behind me lol. I could ramble on for a few more paragraphs haha but I won't bore you too much, I'll be doing more into it if you're really bored one day and want to read my ramblings on it all ;)
Ron Flood Thanks man! Ohhh yeah, she's very capable and scary at just how easy it is to go relatively fast while making it feel like you're not having to work at it which may get some into trouble quickly.
You should head over to tail of the dragon sometime i initially bought a focus rs but these cars our beast would love to see one on the road over there
+vICorruption Most definitely! I'll be heading over there within the next few weeks. My schedule is to hit up Fort Mtn, Devil's Triangle and then the Dragon. If you'd like to, shoot me an email to Kevin@HondaProKevin and we'll link up for some fun on the Dragon soon. I've got a sweet spot for the RS, Ford hit a homerun with that car! I was very close to pulling the trigger on one but then Honda finally made it official with the Type R and with me being a huge Honda fan and work for them as well on the motorcycle side, I "had" to get the Honda. Plus I've wanted a Civic Type R since I was like 15 so it was a no brainer. Cool to see an RS owner actually appreciate the Type R for what it is as so many are just bashing it like there's no tomorrow lol.
HondaPro Kevin hell yea man I will I live near the dragon. Yea their's a lot of bashing going around towards the Rs and type R. People just don't appreciate what these cars are meant for.
+Jason Yang Thanks man! Thanks for the recommendation too. I forgot my GoPro Session this trip but next time I'll mount it right in front of gauge cluster so it shows the RPM, gear and speed and use my Hero 5 in the same spot or experiment some with it too. Sadly you can just barely see my speed and that's it in this video if you watch it in 4K etc. I'll be heading south to hit up Fort Mtn in north GA this weekend to hopefully get some better video. Plus I like Fort a little better than where I was in the video above so it should be a fun hell raising session haha.
Bro...u have an ENTIRE WINDSCREEN 2 PLACE THE CAMERA. REEEEE-DO PLEEZ with cameras moved. Then double check shot 1st b4 driving again. Nice car Bro!!!!!!! Also, a pro-racer taught me to accelerate 2/3rds the way through a corner...so enter corner coasting, once 2/3 threw that's when u PUNCH IT. And somehow the darn car glues it's self to the road and u race out of a corner, it's AWESOME FEELING 🐴
+TEKNOiD Heck yeah man, most definitely! Shoot me an email to Kevin@HondaProKevin.com and that way we can get in contact with each other. I'm planning a run through The Devil's Triangle that's right in your backyard actually. Have you even been there? Love myself a cleanly modded TSX, anywhere I could check out your builds online?
I would love to eventually try test driving the Type R. I recently just purchased the 2017 SI which I am pretty happy with. You can't go wrong with chosing either one. Although I wish the SI had a little more power. They are both definitely fun to take around back roads for sure.
Anirudh Upadhyayula I figured the new Si would have more horsepower. But I guess they make up for that a bit with the extra torque. I've wanted an Si since I could first drive
Anirudh Upadhyayula Are they kinda like Hondata? I'm entertaining the idea of doing something "easy" and safe to add a bit more power to my civic when it comes in
They are a tuning shop they do custom Hondata tunes. Check it out: vittuned.com/ Here are some articles on how much power they were able to get if you're interested: blog.vittuned.com/laying-into-the-2017-honda-civic-si/ blog.vittuned.com/the-10th-gen-civic-si-basemaps/
Vit is awesome but Ktuner is what he recommends. You can set up mild tunes or aggressive tunes. I have a 2016 sedan touring and it makes a huge difference. PRL made a 2017 civic si that was faster than the type r off the line.
Your driving it always one gear too low, let the torque do some work, stop bouncing off the review limiter. I own one too, you'll be faster and enjoy the drive more. I'm feeling for your engine.
You're 100% correct on one gear too low majority of the time but keep in mind I have been used to an AP1 with just bolt-ons for the last couple of years. I strapped a camera on for this video without ever having really raised hell in it yet so I was in a new world so-to-say. My engine is fine, I'd have to watch the video again but I can't remember bouncing it off the rev limiter etc in the video so it's not like I was beating the absolute piss out of it. Different vehicle but I've had people say the exact same thing about feeling sorry for my CBR600RR engine from track day videos and after 30k it still runs like a champ and leak down tests etc prove she's still spot on. Knock on wood, have yet to have any engine problems out of any toy I've ever owned and I enjoy the heck out of them and don't feel sorry for them one bit haha ;)
@@HondaProKevin Thanks for the reply, you're right, most times if you treat an engine with a bit more intensity they seem to last longer. Those who treat them with kid gloves and baby them have issues. I think it's because the first 10k it needs, to become one with each component smoothly running with the next. If that's how you enjoy it then that's great. I've always had turbos, so I'm getting use to 7k redline and using the revs. After 10k service I'll do a few more hard runs and heat it up a little. I just need to remember to drive slowly or idle the car after. I'm not a fan of just switching off and listing to the engine bay crackle with heat. In the same way as I'll always give the car a minute to settle from a cold start. Well at least until the ECU drop a down to 500 RPM or so. People need to understand it takes a minute to get the oil pump to get the oil through the system. I'm a little old school. I know you can start and go, better oil, direct injection, technology and all that jazz. Thanks for your reply😌🙏
+George Christo Thanks! Had a blast for my first time really beating on the new Type R a little bit. An entirely different experience compared to my S2000!
+Gerry N Thanks bud! Appreciate the kind words and for watching too. I usually don't do car videos as motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs etc are what I started this channel and my blog www.HondaProKevin.com for but I think I'm going to start mixing some car videos in too with the Type R and S2000.
Yeah, sure. The 4k quality is mindblowing, I can even see your odometer reading is around 930 miles at the beginning of the video :). Good job on that!
May I also know what video capturing products you are using here and what kind of mount? I tried to use iphone 7+ to record similar videos but the camero just won't stop shaking crazily :(
+Chimin Xu For this video, I'm using a GoPro 5 with the suction cup mounted to the side door window. Some of my other videos are mixed up with a GoPro Session or Galaxy Note / S8. Just picked up a couple of GoPro 6' to play with too as I plan to start making a lot more content once winter finally breaks and it's not so flipping cold out.
+harry tan Ohhh yeah, I'd love to see that too! Hopefully not much longer... Not sure if the "nice" part was for my video or how nice the touge video would be lol but if it's for me I appreciate it ;)
+harry tan Thanks! That's awesome! How much longer until yours arrives? Oh yeah, I'll definitely have some more videos coming up of other mountain runs, autocross and track days too.
Do you really need to downshift to second gear on those turns? I mean with all the torque available you shouldn't need to do that unless you are almost coming to a full stop right?
+Mcufre I probably didn't need to downshift to 2nd on the 99.99% of them but (insert excuses here lol) it was my first time playing with the Type R in the mountains so I wasn't used to the double the torque that it has compared to my S2000 where I have to dip down to 2nd in those locations. The 295 lb/ft versus 140 lb/ft is quite the difference and is taking some getting used to. The video I posted up a couple days ago playing on another mountain in the Type R definitely has a lot less shifting down to 2nd lol and just using the torque she's got to my advantage and using 3rd the majority of the time. Thanks for posting a critique and not being an ass about it like many have. It's a learning experience for me with this new car and it might've been a mistake posting my first mountain run haha.
No prob man, I just don't think the car must like being in second gear on those turns with all that torque, probably not good for the gearbox even. Glad you're getting used to it and enjoy!
+corone2018 Yessir, she's definitely got a lot more in it but like you said a track is where you test the limits at. I'm just out for a little fun. I've done my fair share of track days but have yet to take the Type R out there yet, can't wait...
+gowdaflow Oh yeah! It's been so many years since I've had a turbo car, I've gotten used to my S2000 over the last few years so I'm always having to keep it right there at redline since it has absolutely no torque etc. I've got to work on adjusting my driving style between the two when really pushing it that's for sure. This was my first time really pushing the Type R so it'll take a little bit longer to work on my "muscle memory" and really get things down to where I'll be happy where as of right now it's incredibly sloppy to say the least haha.
+Xitong Zheng I am surprisingly starting to really like it. I thought I would hate it as I didn't like the "idea" of something taking away that part of the enjoyment that comes with having a manual transmission but I'm starting to like how you can focus on bettering other aspects of your driving. I'm going to use it more to get my head used to having a different engine to get the feel of, it's a different ballgame from what I'm used to.
HondaPro Kevin Yeah people say it isn't a real manual... And they are right. But it still beats a DSG or CVT anyday!!! Love mine! It was also a good transition for me as I never drove a manual before this car.
zachery D So bossy... Can we get a please thrown in there too lol? Just teasing man ;) . I'll work on getting some of those detailed acceleration clips posted in multiple gears and some higher gear roll ons to show the lag etc.
Dude u shift way too late. And ur seating position compared to the steering wheel is way to far back. ur arm is fully extended at 12 on the steering wheel
+russrt spooling I guess it's a good thing I didn't pay 40 grand huh haha? The S2000 is definitely a league of its own but I wouldn't go as far as to say the S2000 would shit on the Type R. Have you had a chance to drive them both back to back yet by any chance? I'm loving every mile in the Type R and it is no doubt a faster car in almost every aspect but I've got to say the S2000 is ahead when it comes to that fun factor and the overall "experience" that really makes you fall in love with a car. Thanks for checking out the video and for posting up too! Always interesting to hear others opinions.
zachery D It's nice seeing there values back on the rise again. I'll never sell my current AP1, I made the mistake of doing it with my first one and regretted that mistake for years until I hit the jackpot and found my current AP1 with only 38k on the clock for a good price and bone stock too.
+Jonathan Lindhome Haha yeah, thankfully I didn't have to spend 40k. The same could be said on just about any car though whether it be Honda, Subaru, VW, Ford, Chevy, Dodge etc etc ;)
Insane only to those who don’t like it. 40k is pretty much the floor to get into a modern performance vehicle. And it’s not just a normal Civic either.
And the hellcats Msrp is at 66k and I’ve seen Hellcats sold at 60k and some 55k. It sucked when they first came out because there weren’t a lot of them, they got up into the 100s which is retarded but people still bought em! #moparornocar!!
+Mikey How am I copying HondaPro Jason? If you check me out a little bit you'll see my blog www.HondaProKevin.com has been live for years and I have been doing Honda motorcycles, ATVs etc for over a decade. I don't do Honda cars like HondaPro Jason. Yes we both do Honda's but that's where the similarities end.
Accord 2.0T 6MT offers almost the same characteristics at a lower price and 10x more elegant package that doesn't look like a ricer's wet dream. This car is marketed towards young buyers in early 20s but it priced at people making $70K+ a year. That's what the kids noways call an epic fail.
+Mikey lol so you know without a doubt he used the term "HondaPro" before anyone else, ever? I'm not going to argue with you on that one. I didn't label myself as so and also I believe the 10,000+ people that visit my blog on a daily basis would beg to differ ;)
Because the name hondapro has been taken by Jason. Also Hondapro Jason has been doing this for years. Plus he has covered everything you just covered or going to. Pointless and a redundant of content. Especially that name.
+Mikey Let's keep the replies in the same comment string, it's easier to follow what we both say for those that may be wanting to follow this conversation. What have have him and I both covered? What has he covered that I have done as well? I'd love to see that one... Yes, we both own a Civic Type R but whoopty doo. That doesn't change the fact that I'm not here to do cars like he does, I do Honda PowerSports as you can tell if you do any research into myself online. Who make such a big deal out of nothing? I'd probably bet I've owned more Honda's than he has but does that make me any better than him or own the rights to a HondaPro in front of my name? Nope.
Dean Grimsell Yup yup, thankfully we all don't share the same opinions otherwise the world would be rather boring. I may be a bit biased but I've got to agree with you on that one about her looking "great". I wasn't 100% sold on the styling by pictures etc until I saw her in person for the first time and it made me do a complete 180 on my thoughts about the styling.
Would you guys like to see more videos like this? Also, would you guys rather me shut up so you can hear the car and that's it or throw in some commentary here and there?
Also, what other Type R content would you guys like to see?
Thanks for checking out the video guys and for any opinions too!
A mic will come in handy, drastically improving the qualities of the video/s!
+Ferny Jr. Thanks for the tip! I've actually got one on the way. Well, two actually. I'm going to put one under the hood so I can get some better audio of the engine and turbo noises etc and then one in the cabin too.

After driving a bike for awhile every car just seems insanely slow...

all about the driver a cars just a car ..skills

And somehow the darn car glues it's self to the road and u race out of a corner, it's AWESOME FEELING 🐴
Loved the video! Maybe try a different camera angle so we can see more road?
I'm in Knoxville with two lightly modded TSX's, would love to link up and ride one day.
+TEKNOiD Heck yeah man, most definitely! Shoot me an email to Kevin@HondaProKevin.com and that way we can get in contact with each other. I'm planning a run through The Devil's Triangle that's right in your backyard actually. Have you even been there?
Love myself a cleanly modded TSX, anywhere I could check out your builds online?
wheelwell.com/malcolm-galloway
Wanting to run the Dragon myself, still need work on the TSX's first.

Thank you so much
I would love to eventually try test driving the Type R.
Idk if you have heard of Vit Tuning they were able to get the SI to 255whp and 320wtq
Anirudh Upadhyayula Are they kinda like Hondata? I'm entertaining the idea of doing something "easy" and safe to add a bit more power to my civic when it comes in
They are a tuning shop they do custom Hondata tunes. Check it out:
vittuned.com/
Here are some articles on how much power they were able to get if you're interested:

Was thinking the same thing. Was confused why always downshifting around a curve when he didn't need to.
Shut up and drive!!! I LOVE IT
+HenryHonda Thanks man!
Nice looking A pillar.
Thanks, thought you might like that.
Kojack not here to see the road in front of it. Vid is great for those with the right eyes to see it.
nice drive!
+George Christo Thanks! Had a blast for my first time really beating on the new Type R a little bit. An entirely different experience compared to my S2000!
Enjoyed your video..keep it up!👍
+Gerry N Thanks bud! Appreciate the kind words and for watching too. I usually don't do car videos as motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs etc are what I started this channel and my blog www.HondaProKevin.com for but I think I'm going to start mixing some car videos in too with the Type R and S2000.
Nice Video! Quality is excellent
+Chimin Xu Thanks man, appreciate the kind words after seeing so much hate as of lately haha. Thanks again!
Hope to see more videos like this!! Also, did the 2nd gear grind get fixed? Did Honda admit this is of factory issues?
Love to see the new type r on the actual touge run~ Nice~
+harry tan Ohhh yeah, I'd love to see that too! Hopefully not much longer...
Not sure if the "nice" part was for my video or how nice the touge video would be lol but if it's for me I appreciate it ;)
Nice to you buddy! I ordered a type R for myself too :) ~ anyway~ would love to see more videos of your type r~
+harry tan Thanks! That's awesome! How much longer until yours arrives?
Oh yeah, I'll definitely have some more videos coming up of other mountain runs, autocross and track days too.
I ll have to wait till mid- Feb next year~ lol
harry tan You ordered a Type R? Is this the time frame they mentioned?
Dont be scared you can go faster than that test the limits on a track first so you know the limits of the wheels .
+corone2018 Yessir, she's definitely got a lot more in it but like you said a track is where you test the limits at. I'm just out for a little fun. I've done my fair share of track days but have yet to take the Type R out there yet, can't wait...
Use the boost to get through!
Impressive civic for sure. At the price I'm not sure cause I could get a mustang gt
LOL speed limit sign says 45mph at one point while the speedometer jumps up to 86mph!
+Slap Boogz I dunno what you're talking about bud... lol!
My bad lol
@@HondaProKevin just bought mine. Champ white like yours. I pick it up tomorrow after work. Cant wait!!!!
Auto rev. Awesome!
11:56 is that the second gear grind that's a known problem?
Make a dedicated video of 0-60 also 0-100. Then a video on 2nd and 3rd gear pulls
zachery D So bossy... Can we get a please thrown in there too lol?
Just teasing man ;) . I'll work on getting some of those detailed acceleration clips posted in multiple gears and some higher gear roll ons to show the lag etc.
blurring out the speedo might help ;) hate for you to get in hot water w/self incriminating evidence that you willing exceeded safe speeds...
K03sport Can they get you for that?
why are you breaking on soft turns? fucking people who drive the 86, FR-S or BRZ go faster on turns.
Dude u shift way too late. And ur seating position compared to the steering wheel is way to far back. ur arm is fully extended at 12 on the steering wheel
My Speed3 would smoke it
in what? Torque Steering off a cliff?
Puro South lol. Like anyone would even take that comment seriously.....lololol
Nice A-pillar. :-(
Hondapro kevin 😂😂😂😂 how original. Honda pro Jason
+Jose Castillo He covers Honda cars. I've covered Honda motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs for many many years. Two different lanes bud ;)
Sorry bud but that car ain't worth 40 grand... The s2000 is a world better add a turbo to the s2000 take a big shit on that Civic.
That s2000 is like 15 years old and still 15k lol if you don't want a crappy one
zachery D it's 15,000 for a good one because it was a great car a sports car not an economy Civic type r or not.
russrt spooling lol so much hate for the R homie, no need for it ;)
zachery D It's nice seeing there values back on the rise again. I'll never sell my current AP1, I made the mistake of doing it with my first one and regretted that mistake for years until I hit the jackpot and found my current AP1 with only 38k on the clock for a good price and bone stock too.
Shifting waaaaay too much. That motor has a wide enough power band. Give it a rest bro. Jeez
still insane to spend 40k on a civic
+Jonathan Lindhome Haha yeah, thankfully I didn't have to spend 40k. The same could be said on just about any car though whether it be Honda, Subaru, VW, Ford, Chevy, Dodge etc etc ;)
Insane only to those who don’t like it. 40k is pretty much the floor to get into a modern performance vehicle. And it’s not just a normal Civic either.
Its not on a Civic, its on a Honda and its on the fastest production FWD car on the market.
Jonathan Lindhome only 40k for that thing? Lmao! It is crazy tho.
And the hellcats Msrp is at 66k and I’ve seen Hellcats sold at 60k and some 55k. It sucked when they first came out because there weren’t a lot of them, they got up into the 100s which is retarded but people still bought em! #moparornocar!!
You're a good driver so smooth and fluid you know that car
Thank you! It's a very confidence inspiring car for sure!
Why copy HondaPro Jason??
VanGogh34 almost 40. I’m going to buy one. I was too old for accords when I traded mine in on my lexus a few years back.
Just saying you shouldn't use the name hondapro. It's copying. Also you're not a Honda pro.
Nope.
Wow someone salty for no reason other than he cant afford the Type R lolol
Frist
+Hazem Tamer I think you also win the "first" for somebody that's actually commented "first" on any of my videos lol!
so bad driver, poor machine, that car need a real driver...
+Henry V lol! Where's your driving videos at?
Alcyone V you’d wad it up.
This car is ugly! worst looking Civic of all time
Phil looks are subjective. I think it looks great
Phil lol! Even uglier than the mid 1980's bodystyles?
Dean Grimsell Yup yup, thankfully we all don't share the same opinions otherwise the world would be rather boring.
I may be a bit biased but I've got to agree with you on that one about her looking "great". I wasn't 100% sold on the styling by pictures etc until I saw her in person for the first time and it made me do a complete 180 on my thoughts about the styling.
