Enjoyable, love your commentary. Your grand daughter is right we do get some heavy thunder storms in that I-84 corridor between PA and CT with the Hudson Valley in the middle.
i love this video. I can get an idea of when the cannonball will pass thru Patchogue. By the way, you are so right about thunderstorms. they are never as bad they always predict.
That is a very long distance out to Montauk. I can remember once taking off from JFK on the way to Rome. It took that 747 jet almost 40 minutes to fly the entire length of the island and break out into the Atlantic.
You should stop off at Bayshore (starting at 6:00am) on July 08 and watch the "zombie apocalypse" revelers from Fire Island board the the "Death Train" back to NYC. We used stand out in the Ferry Docks in Ocean Bay park, with a beer in hand, and watch them board the Ferry. Poor zombies.
Wasn't there a summer (7 - 9ish years ago) that the L.I.R.R.(MTA) had to lease foreign locomotives and coaches to fill in for the rest of the diesel-only branches because the Montauk branch needed practically all of their own equipment for the weekends?
I recall once hearing that the Penn Station to Montauk direct Cannonball train (or whatever it was called in the past) was considered a long-distance train officially in terms of federal rail classifications because it was more than 100 miles long. Can anyone confirm this?
Why do the majority of Montauk trains (year-round) from Penn Station only go as far east as Speonk? I get the SFCC exists for commuters traveling east of Speonk but the other two diesel lines (Port Jefferson and Oyster Bay; Greenport doesn’t count here because those never serve Penn) have year-round end-to-end service to Penn Station.
They're back!! The Montauk runs for the summer season. Thanks Tim💙🐤👍

Great catches man, looked like a fun day!
Nice video and glad to bump into you after many years at Oakdale!
Great stuff. Let’s give credit to the DE/DMs. They are workhorses and, as with all EMD Power, that deep throated roar at notch 8 sounds so good.

Using VRE horns to filter C3 horns is wild
I can stand those horns over our own
Nice captures

I saw that work train at Sayville That Day
Amazing, I was tracking the trains all weekend
Hold off on your trip to California until the 2nd Weekend in August for a Caltrain surprise.
I’m already locked in to my airfare and hotels. Nothing would surprise me on Caltrain.
We are so back
At least the cars are double deckers.

May 27th was my 79th birthday.

I never cared for them
Super red moment 🗣🗣🗣
So what factor decides how many cars the train gets?
Demand
Does it just go from Moynihan or goes from Grand Central Madison
Diesels can’t go out of Grand Central Terminal.
LOL 28:23 that’s funny.
Nice video!
Do you take videos with an actual camera or smartphone? The quality is great.
Smart phone

In your 20s, did your girlfriend (wife) laughed at you when you told her you were afraid of thunder?
