  • In this video i talk about some of the best tips and tricks i have learned to make off road racing easier on a dirt bike! Whether you are racing desert or enduro, at least one of these tips will help you, especially if you are new to the sport. Last year i showed up to race my first desert race, and was completely unprepared for what it would be like! As a motocross racer, I just though i would show up with my bike and pound out a couple laps! Don't be me, do these things! I hope this helps..

    I run Steg pegs and pivot pegs, rally foam handle grips a steering stabiliser rear hand brake and electric gear shifter and I had my seat upgraded to be thicker and softer with a non slip cover.

    Guess I'm a real fan 😂. Great tips! Definitely stuff I've learned over the course of 6 desert races now. Personally I always go a little softer on my comp. damping front and rear as what feels good to me normally gets tiring over 100 miles.

      Thanks! You are the man! My front forks are messed up on the KTM (they only go through about half the travel during rides and they are all the way soft with minimum air pressure). I will be racing it that way, but after the races i will have Moto One fix the fork seals, and see whats making the fork so stiff! It feels rideable so far though. Definitely not plush!

    Well, looks like Im a fan now too, so I just subscribed. Very cool place to ride. We dont have anything like that down here and I ride a 2013 Husky TXC 310 R desert racer and would love to ride it somewhere, that I could open her up and let it run.

      I appreciate the comment and the subscription! Yeah, i didnt realize how fun desert racing would be until i did it on a 450. A 310 would probably be just as fun!

    Good advice wish I could have seen something like this before I did my first desert race, at 62 years old,and outa shape I was not prepared for how exhausted I would become I did have hydration. And my legs turned to rubber. Think I’ll stick to single track.....

    • @RacerRed
      @RacerRed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got pretty exhausted too! I couldn't believe how hard it was because I do all day rides all the time, but riding all day is so much different than going as fast as you can for 2 hours straight. I think you might have fun if you did it again and just rode the course instead of race it. You also might be surprised at how well you do.

      @@RacerRedhey lads we have thd finke desert race in Australia, only 10 riders are competitive, the other 490 are out to make it there n back. There’s a movie called finke there n back narrated by Eric banner.
      I’m a double amputee and I’ve built my wr450 for finke.
      My boss raised my scissor lift into a high voltage powerline so I earthed out 19,000 volts 3 times did a fare bit of damage to me.
      You can do anything just do it your way. We are so damned lucky to have our lives we need to enjoy them.
      I’m not scared of dying,
      I’m scared of not living.
      You lads have a good day and a great ride..
      it’s all about the braap braap…

    I just got some risers for my bike yesterday. I'm 6'5" so standing up kills my back

    • @RacerRed
      @RacerRed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard that from several riders. There are mixed reviews on that one, for sure. All the tall pro riders say that they don't run bar risers, as far as i know. During one interview, one of the pro's ranted about them lol. I'm only 5'9 though, so I don't have an opinion on them. If they help, they help.

      @@RacerRed I'm a casual rider at best but want to get a lot more experience and aggressive this year once it warms up. Lots of high mountain desert trails in Utah.

    Tire recommendations for desert?

      IRC M5B - it’s by far my favorite. Deep knob, lasts long, cost effective, and dominates in almost all conditions. I run the 140 on my 450.

    Your bum needs to be just off the seat your standing too high. Lower your sag to 110 to 125 so the back tyre tracks better and doesn’t bounce on you as much. I lost both legs 5 years ago I race on prosthetic legs

      are you a pro or were you a pro before your accident? I race expert or A class and just won the local championship series.

      @@RacerRed bloody awesome mate good onya! Haha nah I’ve ridden for 31 of my 36 years. I was a farmer and lived on bikes moving sheep in Australia. I’m just starting my racing career, I see how others get inspired by me, there’s probably more than 100 people who ride bikes or race after meeting me at the tracks.
