Neil Bonnett will also forever be known as the winner of the first ever NASCAR race held outside of North America. In February 1988 just a week after winning the Richmond 400 he traveled to Melbourne, Australia and won the Goodyear NASCAR 500 (KM) at the Calder Park Thunderdome driving a Pontiac Grand Prix. He not only won the race, but a whole new legion of fans Down Under.

How come NASCAR has not raced in Australia again after that? I could see NASCAR running exhibition races at the Mount Panorama Circuit, home of the Bathurst 1000.

@@tomdalfonzo9959 honestly I can't believe they don't I have mo idea about the circut you are talking of but the track neil won at had just opened it was a state of the art track Id say being honest it was a clone of Charlotte a tri oval I belive it was like 1.35 jus shy of a mile an a half an it was all sold out an it was goina have so many events an o was shocked when I locked it up the other day to find that its j6s been abandoned. It ant like the north Carolina tracks that are deterating it looks like it waz jus walk of left like a hundred years ago they is trees growing in the grand stands jus blew my mind that it waz like that cause usaly the Australian people are big into motor sports but its realy such a shame

If dale jr belongs in the HOF,for his achievements and and contributions to NASCAR, then Neil Bonnet certainly does, and in my opinion so does Dave Marcus for his contributions to the sport.

It's been 25 years since Neil Bonnett passed away. He was a great Nascar Race Driver and he did a great job doing the winners TV show on the Nashville Network. The Nascar Community will always miss him.

He wasn't going to come back into racing full-time, but he wanted to end his career the way he wanted to. We just didn't get there.

He sure was a "Winner." Don't think I've ever seen an interview with Earnhardt Sr. talking about Bonnett. Was his best friend....kinda like Sr. and Childress.

If Neil didn't die Winners Season 5 (1995) would've happened

They kept the show going for a while afterwards with Rusty Wallace as the host.

    • @tomdalfonzo9959

Dale Earnhardt would've been a more fitting host, but mainly because of how close of friends he was with Neil Bonnett. If not him, I say Bobby Allison, Neil Bonnett's mentor himself.

They had a few rotating hosts that last season. DW and Lyn St. James were a couple more of them.

Please don’t take the Lord’s name in vain. You won’t see Neil Bonnet in Heaven if you do stuff like that. Don’t be dishonest. Repent and believe in the Lord. Death happend because of Adam and Eve. These boys aren’t afraid of death and hopefully have the fear of the Lord with them.
