She was so beautiful in this movie. No one could have played the part but her . And Clark Gable was so handsome. Hard to believe that Olivia deHavilland is still alive.
Vivien Leigh...so beautiful, so absolutely amazingly talented! She WAS Scarlett O'Hara, the very image and spirit of her. No actress was ever cast in so perfect a role; or perhaps, no role was ever more perfect for this actress. Olivia deHavilland once said of her she gave something to this film which she did not give to any other, and 75 years later, it is still undeniably true.
Vivien's beauty is intoxicating. This movie wouldn't be the legend it became if Scarlett's role went to any other actress. She was born to play this role

@MissX W LMAO the one who needs glasses is you, your obviously blind to not see that Vivien is MUCH more beautiful than Marilyn. Marilyn was average looking without makeup. There was many actresses in Marilyn’s time who were much more beautiful than her.
She was Scarlett . Vivian Leigh was married to Sir Lawrence Olivier who was so well trained in stage as well as film , I think she learned alot from him.
I agree with you that it's one of the best lines in the movie but even though i haven't seen it since i was a young girl i still remember very good one's what a movie
Vivien Leigh put everything into this roll, it's apparent. Scarlett had so many facets that Vivien captured - whether it be happy, angry, sad, scared, usually thinking about herself - wanting what she couldn't have. You just want to tell her that she would've gotten so bored with Ashley pretty quickly and that Rhett was perfect for her - exciting, mysterious, passionate. Rhett also had compassion and understanding about people that young Scarlett just didn't. But anyway, I love the complexity of the character that is Scarlett and can't imagine another actress playing her so perfectly.
Rhett was hanging out with Belle Watling and Scarlett wasn't certain there weren't any sexual relations. He also insisted on having his way many times, such as the bedroom incident, making her attend Melanie's party in scarlet dress, choosing Bonnie Blue's name, taking her to London and refusing to bury her. Scarlett can't stand not being in control.
Paulo Valenca l read the book saw the movie five times. l think the book was better than the movie. And the movie is the greatest movie l've ever seen. And she is without a doubt the greatest actress to ever to embrace the big screen. She's in a class all by herself. A nice place to be.
@@johnjackson7441 I agree. The movie is sheer magnificence, but the book is even better. You can't put it down no matter how many times you read it, and you never want it to end. That is a BOOK! Now, of course, nutty liberals are after both film and book. Crazy!

Yes, as a Southerner myself, I can say she did very well with the accent. Most people attempting a Southern accent come across as a tossup between the Beverly Hillbillies and Li'l Abner (anybody remember him?) and is usually very insulting. Her accent was very subtle and graceful.

Rhett wanted Scarlett's stuff so bad he waited twelve years and had to marry her, even knowing she was in love with someone else. As good as she was as Scarlett in Gone With the Wind she was twice as good and much more realistic in Vivien Leigh's role as Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire.

The reason why Vivian captivated us with her performance is she managed to play the selfish feisty spoiled brat yet show vulnerability at the same time so you could never hate her no matter what she did.
A lady who knew so much struggle and pain.... In backdrop of a war... Separation... Forgot to love... Obsessed with Ashley... Never recognized that her true love was next to her.. In all her personal battles... He was with her.. But her struggle made her stonehearted... She didn't even have the time to realize that.... By the time Melanie died.... Her wait over... But again... She didn't get what she wanted most.... Her Ashley... Which remained her crush... But the person who truly loved her.. Sees her insensitive nature... Buckles after their child dies and leaves her forever... She's left with only memories.. And worrying about tomorrow.. She doesn't live for today.... Losing everything...has Only loneliness for company
She was a perfect actress for Scarlett. I read in Mrs Mitchell's auto biography that the heroine's name at first was Pansy O Hara. Nope, it wouldn't have worked. I read Gone with the Wind once a year. Never gets old. Also, The Yearling is a great book.
Margaret Mitchell's epic tale was truly brought to life by the beautiful Vivian Leigh - she was Scarlett! No actress has ever been better cast. When I was growing up in Atlanta, Margaret Mitchell's name was only spoken in the most reverent terms.
Cliché but as Yul Brenner was the King, Vivien Leigh was born for this part....her performance literally leaping off the screen......the consummate actress/artist/beauty
I few years back EW did a series of polls with brackets like the NBA. They started with 64 Best Actress winners and people voted, narrowing it down to 32. After that it got winnowed down to 16 and then so on and so forth until it came down to 2. There was no doubt in my mind who would win from the beginning. The last 2 were Meryl Streep ("Sophies Choice") and Vivien Leigh ("GWTW"). Her performance was a true tour de force, the greatest female performance ever committed to film. After 80 years nothing has or ever will top it.
Wrong performance. Vivien was great as Scarlett but superb (better than Meryl in "Sophie's Choice") in "A Streetcar Named Desire". I consider her performance as Blanche DuBois the best ever by an actress or an actor.
Great actress ------ two Oscar nominations (Gone With the Wind in 1939 and Streetcar Named Desire in 1951) and she won for BOTH of them. Vivien Leigh was breathtaking beautiful and certainly one of the greatest actresses ever to grace movies and the stage. One of the greats!
The soft spoken, quiet, timid, agreeable, naive, faithful, and adoring personality of Melanie, played by the talented actress Olivia de Havilland who lived to be 104 and the last to survive "Gone With the Wind" who passed away in 2020. Rest In Peace.
I just finished reading "Gone With The Wind", and although I had seen the movie many years ago it amused me that while reading I couldn't HELP but imagine so many of the actors/actresses from the movie in the roles that they were in. In reading the novel, I was amazed at how perfect the casting was for the movie! As I read I kept seeing in my mind's eye Clark Gable as the perfect Rhett, Vivien Leigh as Scarlett, Hattie McDaniel as Mammy, Butterfly McQueen as Prissy, and Leslie Howard as Ashley. They seemed to fit the book's descriptions like a glove! Thomas Mitchell as Scarlett's dad was pretty close, but Olivia DeHavilland seemed a little too hale and healthy to me for Melanie (as depicted in the book). But pound-for-pound the cast was really marvelously matched to roles. One of these days I will watch the movie again, looking forward to it.
I first read the book before seeing the film in 1977 during school holidays, couldn't put it down & completed it in 3 weeks. I still remember a couple of pop songs from the time playing repeatedly on the radio, so whenever I hear them now it transports me back to the time of the wonderful read. Then I discovered the movie was playing at the local theatre, so off we went, my mother, sister & I and of course just loved it. Wasn't keen on Leslie Howard as Ashley at the time but Mother explained he was the right type for this role, but it was great to see the well known actors bring this book to wonderful life.
Thank you so much for this video. I am so glad that they didnt shoot this movie in black and white. The combinations of the colours as well As the sound effects are absolutely amazing!!and the performation of Vivien Leigh is breath taking.no one could ever play Scarlett so wonderfully as she did!!and no one ever will!!this movie is the greatest movie of all time!!a huge respect for the filmmakers!!mgm..david o selznick...vivien leigh and for the other cast members!!
What an amazing movie !! What an amazing actress !!!!- I consider her acting as Scarlett the best in movie history. I have no words to explain what I feel looking at Miss Leigh.....
Scarlett was badly misunderstood while Rhetts Aunts were starving it was Scarlett who fed them x the book says more about her sheer guts than peole realise I loved her
Even to this day, I don't think anyone can even come as CLOSE to Vivien when acting. Meryl is FANTASTIC, yes, but no one can be as hard as a horse bit and soft too all at once. This woman was the pinnacle of acting for women. She still inspires me when I try out for plays. I cock my right eyebrow up involuntarily and can snap back. Probably because I am from Georgia, but she is the queen. Her and Dixie Carter from Designing Women. They are both strong and portray Southern women from different points in time. But Vivien gave it her all plus more on her shoulders. A true hero of mine still to this day.
Her parents abandoned her at the age of eight. She was brought up in a Convent boarding school, completely alone in the school holidays. The Mother superior brought her a kitten, so that she wasn't lonely. When she wa 17, her parents pitched up again and told her to live with them. She hardly knew them and got married at 18. The fact that she was able to be an actress of such high standard is amazing.
Besides the fact she was gorgeous, she had the most variety of facial expressions. You knew how she felt just by looking at her face. Amazing actress ever.
I totally agree
Forget Marilyn Monroe or Sophia Loren, Vivien was the most beautiful girl ever existed

Thanks! This is the perfect compilation of Scarlett scenes that make up what and who she really is. I love it! :-)
Margaret Mitchell's epic tale was truly brought to life by the beautiful Vivian Leigh - she was Scarlett! No actress has ever been better cast.
When I was growing up in Atlanta, Margaret Mitchell's name was only spoken in the most reverent terms.
Vivien, with an 'e'.
I read somewhere that Scarlet O' Hara is the good looking version of Margareth Mitchell, who lived very toxic relationships with her boyfriends.
Beautiful film. Absolutely beautiful. It has an atmosphere that stays with you.
I agree. I"m worn out by the time the movie ends!
Vivien brought Scarlett alive. One and only. Rhett too. One and only.
My most fav movie of all time and Vivian was spellbinding beautiful through the entire movie ❤️🇿🇦
Vivien, with an 'e'.
There will never be another Vivien Leigh
Maravillosa y hermosísima
I grew up watching this movie and I never tire of it...She was brilliant in this film....days gone by, gone with the wind.
My favorite for all time....
She was stunning and incredibly talented
Magnifique film que j'ai visionné plusieurs fois, je ne m'en lasse pas 👍
👍👍👍👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️
👱🏻♀️🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Merveilleuse Scarlette.!
Inoubliable !!!
Cliché but as Yul Brenner was the King, Vivien Leigh was born for this part....her performance literally leaping off the screen......the consummate actress/artist/beauty
Vivien was so stunning....she was beautiful 🎉 great pretty actress.... beautiful Scarlet 😻 unforgettable stunning face in my life 😊😊🎉
Fantastischer Film mit großartigen Schauspielern. Vivien ist einfach brillant und es gibt keine vergleichbare Schauspielerin in der neuen Version.
She made the role of Scarlett her own. She was perfect for it.
Love that movie and she was perfect!!
She is a truly exceptional actress , astonishingly beautiful yes, but that range!
She is amazing, unparalleled
Hermosa Vivian Leigh en la mejor película de la historia!
As putea în fiecare zi sa vizionez acest film e fenomenal .Actori de neuitat
She's splendid
She's unique
She's perfect
And so it's the film 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Rodica Doinita wds
As littel child I was so in love her scarlett o.hara
The soft spoken, quiet, timid, agreeable, naive, faithful, and adoring personality of Melanie, played by the talented actress Olivia de Havilland who lived to be 104 and the last to survive "Gone With the Wind" who passed away in 2020. Rest In Peace.
The parts about love are amazing. The parts not about love are even more amazing.
Say what you will about her character, but Scarlett as played by Vivian was soooooo hottttt.
Melanie was my favorite character overall, and it was because of Olivia's portrayal.
So very very true. And I refuse to watch the sequel as Mrs Mitchell didn't write it.
beautiful
The end always makes me sad.😢
She was an amazing actress, it's very sad her later life was so blighted. You never can tell how life will be, it was hard for her.
Moviemaking, as high Att; using every aspect of the business, to produce an irreplaceable masterpiece.... What a beautiful movie......💖
What an amazing movie !! What an amazing actress !!!!- I consider her acting as Scarlett the best in movie history. I have no words to explain what I feel looking at Miss Leigh.....
Scarlett was badly misunderstood while Rhetts Aunts were starving it was Scarlett who fed them x the book says more about her sheer guts than peole realise I loved her
Hear, hear! The Melly's of the world become leeches lol.
È sempre la numero uno
A powerful ageless actress..unsurmountable...she represented Scarlett so well
Keşke platformlarda yayınlansa.
I also loved the change in her face at the barbeque when she sees Ashley and Melanie. And of course the red dress scene!!
We all love her ..❤😊
Her parents abandoned her at the age of eight.
