This reminds me of my first pedal build. Cold solder joints everywhere. Especially those footswitches cuz its really hard to tell if the wires are soldered correctly without a magnifier. Good work on repairing it. Glad it was mostly a wire issue and not a PCB short to ground
Do I fix my own pedals? Yessir... yessir I do. As of wire choice, you can "have both". If you get stranded wire that is labelled "Top Coat" (not TC, as that's Tin/Copper), then it will be stranded, but have similar stiffness like solid core.

I had that same whistling kind of sound and it turned out to be the cable so I chucked the cable and used a different one, problem fixed.

It was a little hard to tell if IC sockets are installed, but if installed, I'd reseat or at least push the IC's down into their sockets. Did you end up doing anything with blue electrolytic cap near the jack?
Good idea on the ic. I did reset that cap and moved it out of the way.
