    Nice video I enjoyed watching it to forget about this quarantine. This is just me but I used to use mono but switched over to bullbuster 130 fluoro I rig 30 ft windons but I use to use snap swivels like you for my pin rigs and I honestly don't know how much of a difference it makes. Something I started doing is I run number 9 wire through the crimp and egg sinker and twist it up to make my pin and it also acts like chafe gear at the hook and could save you from any wahoo bites you might possibly get. I have used springs rubber bands and copper wire to secure the bait and with these joe schutes or heavier style heads I don't think it really matters that much. I ever since last year just went with the springs but that's just my preference. Thought I would share this with you and I will say I like the idea of just a 6 ft leader if your running snap swivels. I would use like 8-10 ft when I used to use snap swivels and that shorter leader prob would have made things a bit easier I liked that tip. I remember hearing you out on the radio on the foggy day around the 4th of july at the lindenkohl and unfortunately were leaking hydraulic oil so it was a stressful ride in. I fish out of cape may and prefer to fish the canyons from the baltimore up to the lindenkohl on either the "fishaholic" or "baccala". As always tight line Chris and I might see you out on the water!

      thanks so much for watching. And thanks for the input. I think I may actually try more 130 fluoro this year. This was really more for the beginner guys to see what is super productive and simple for us.
      I remember hearing you guys that day. It was so foggy. I've spoken to "fishaholic" a bunch over the phone. Hopefully meet him and you this season. We are D11. Stop on by any time if you see us around.

    Fantastic video!! Please follow up with more of the same. I am 100% going to rig my own lures. I do my own for stripers, but now know how to for Tuna. Something about catching a fish on a rig you did yourself is just so much more satisfying. Question, did you ever wind up selling shirts or hats? I thought i saw something that you were going to. Great way to help spread the word. Cant wait till i can get the boat in the water...i just need my marina to get in gear. One morequestion, what is your go to site or app for sea temp that you use? Keep up the great videos! You and the KON are the best!

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks so much for watching. And thanks so much for the kind words. For sea temp I use ripcharts, terrafin, and the rutgers sst site. Ripcharts and terrafin are pay sites. Between ripcharts and terrafin I prefer ripcharts. I like comparing all 3.

    Did you ever make the video where you actually hook up a bally hoo? I run into difficulty with getting head to snug in the hoo magic head. It gets stuck on the on the piece of wire but if I cut it shorter the rubber band comes off.

  • @patrickkelly8095
    @patrickkelly8095 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Captain Reaper, you say the crimp for the hook eye with no chafe gear is fine for tuna but not for swords and shark? What do you do differently with for them?

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I double up the line or do an offshore loop...or add the chafe gear. Actually for swords we don't use chafe gear either.

    How many gallons of gas does it take to get to the Hudson canyons?

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a really tough question Paul. Depends on the fuel burn of the boat you're in, the conditions in which you're running, how loaded down with guys n gear the boat is. And of course where the starting point is. For me it's 90 + miles to the Hudson. We'll burn quite a bit fo fuel making that trip. Probably like 350-375 gallons of diesel.

  • @patrickkelly8095
    @patrickkelly8095 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Serious question here. Why dont yiou just run the ballyhoo by itself? Why are you running it with the other gear? I fished the keys a lot and they always ran just the ballyhoo with the same rigging you use And I've killed it that way. I'm not saying your way is bad. Just wondering if you have run straight ballyhoo?

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Up here we typically don't have flat calm conditions like FL. Having the joe schute, islander, etc as a head really helps the ballyhoo track straight and not skip out of the water. We want them swimming not skipping. Also we cover a lot of ground and fish lots and lots of hours. The heads also help increase the run time on the ballyhoo (i.e not getting washed out)

    JINKAI AND MOIMOI SUCK ESPECIALLY FOR CHUNKING. I MEAN IF ANYTHING TOUCHES THAT LINE WHEN FIGHTING A FISH...... it breaks

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use Seagur fluoro exclusively for chunking. What do you guys use for chunking and trolling?? I've never had a problem with our Jinkai leaders.

    • @dylanpalmer9552
      @dylanpalmer9552 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reaper Fishing NJ I use berkley big game as the main line and seagar ad the leaders. The problem I have is that when I’m tied to “something” the jinkai slightly touched the line and it broke when we had a sword on. And it has happened on anchor and when when drifting whien the fish runs under the boat or when fishing line touch. But with big game I have yet to cross my fingers never cut a fish off. When I’m trolling I think it’s like 200lb moimoi but at that strength of line it doesn’t matter what you use.

    I am disappointed, I was hoping to se how to rig a bally the way I saw them rig a bally when I fished the Florida keys. Hook, wire, ribber bands, Thats its and took them seconds to rig a new one.
    I do want to say that I am not criticizing the captain or his video. I was only disappointed that it did not show the how to I wa expecting.
