Jalen Brown could've risen to the occasion tonight when Jason Tatum suffered an ankle injury on the first play of the game, but instead he failed to do what Caleb Martin did for the Heat in this game 7. That, to me, was the difference in this game which decided who goes to the Finals. I actually like Jalen Brown's game, but I don't see him coming back to the Celtics next season. Someone like Damian Lillard would be an upgrade for the Celtics if they can somehow sign him.

The problem as I see it is that they've tried to mold him into a certain type of player to fit a system, i.e. "positionless" wing who can dribble-drive from 25 feet or shoot a three pointer like Tatum, rather than focusing on polishing another type of game he might be able to master. Brown has improved his "handles" since breaking in but obviously is still too erratic with that stuff; even when he doesn't turn it over he sometimes gets away with traveling non-calls. So as it stands now he can do a few things fairly well, but doesn't really have a go-to move or clear strength, so he becomes very unreliable in big games. He does seem to be comfortable and effective with quick jab steps, a few short bursts where he can get to a mid-range spot and shoot over his guy - this is how Reggie Lewis was so effective back in the day, but today any lower efficiency move is discouraged in the name of analytics.

I think there's a lot of learning to be done by Mazzulla and these guys. D White and Robert Williams gave it their all for their respective roles. The rest of these guys need to realign their focus to becoming a defense oriented team because it's what they do best, and at the same time they need to develop their offense to become less reliant on 3s, and taking it to the basket more and Utilizing R. Williams size in the paint. When we take less 3s we play much better. Tatum needs to work more on becoming an alpha mentally that inspires his team to follow suit. In line with that Mazulla will realize with time that he has to be more of an alpha as a coach and hold his players accountable for game mentality and take players out when they shoot bad shots, don't box out, don't play screens properly, etc. That will come with time though, he's done pretty good for a new coach. At the end of the day I don't see us really needing to trade anyone and just work on mentality and philosophy, but if we did trade someone I could only see us trading Brogdon for a better role player. The rest of these guys have the mentality to learn and adapt. We've seen it before. I hope JB sticks with us and just works a tiny bit on ball handling. Other than that I think we have another good shot at winning it all next year so long as we grow mentally and make the necessary philosophical/gameplay changes.

In the realm of basketball's fierce battleground,
Where moments of triumph and despair are found,
There lies a tale of Game 7, with sorrow's decree,
And Jaylen Brown's struggles, laid bare for all to see.
Amidst the heated contest, a dismal affair,
Brown's shooting woes clouded the air,
With eight successful shots out of twenty-three,
His aim fell short, a disappointing spree.
From beyond the arc, a dismal display,
    Eleven-point-one percent, a disheartening array,
His three-point attempts left fans in despair,
The net untouched, a tale of shots gone nowhere.
Turnovers plagued his game, an unfortunate sight,
Eight times the ball slipped, a painful plight,
Surpassing the Heat's entire team in this grave feat,
A burden he carried, defeat upon defeat.
In the absence of their scoring leader's might,
Brown's opportunity arose, a chance to shine bright,
But alas, he faltered, failing to embrace,
The mantle of leadership, as the team's guiding ace.
Now, let's tread carefully as we analyze,
The weight of deserving, the value we surmise,
Contracts, a financial dance on a delicate scale,
    Subjective judgments, where opinions assail.
Some claim he seeks an extravagant reward,
Three hundred million dollars, a sum untoward,
But let us remember, it's a complex affair,
    Negotiations, values, a contractual snare.
While faults may be evident, mistakes on display,
We mustn't solely lay blame, for the Celtics' dismay,
Basketball is a collective endeavor, a team's reflection,
Where wins and losses hinge on each player's connection.
In the grand tapestry of Jaylen Brown's quest,
Mistakes and struggles may not define his best,
He seeks growth, improvement, and a chance to redeem,
To rise above the shadows, where greatness may gleam.
Yes, he stumbled that day, the Celtics' plight,
Yet amidst the darkness, there's room for light,
For basketball's journey is fraught with adversity,
And resilience oft breeds moments of victory.
So, as we weigh his performance, let us be fair,
Recognizing the multifaceted nature we share,
Jaylen Brown, a player with dreams and desire,
Striving for success, fueled by internal fire.
In the realm of sports, where legends are made,
The path to greatness may wind, twist, and fade,
Let time be the judge, as the story unfolds,
Where redemption may blossom, as destiny beholds.

The reality is the guy has bad hands. I don't think that will change and that makes him a liability against teams that actually defend.

You are basically defining him off a bad playoff series (which every superstar/all star player has) rather than what he's done all of this season and last season. It tells me your an ignorant moron just because your petty the team didn't play well enough to advance. Winning championships takes a lot of luck to go your way. Ever heard of running it back? Tl;dr - Underachievers for how good the team actually has been, they have the necessary pieces, but the duo is too inconsistent, and they need a true PG and Closer to pace them and not throw games.
They've been together and have played for 6 years now and have made the ECF 4 times in those 6 years. It's been over half a decade and people in the comments are still saying that they should keep them together and they'll get it done. JB is out of there within the next two years if not this Summer. The Celtics have underachieved as a team whilst in the playoffs year after year. Underachieved? Yes, because they've been the most balanced offensive and defensive team in the league for the last 4 years in a row. They actually do have the pieces and are good enough to win it all, but they've got the streakiest superstars in the league on their team in JT and JB. If the Celtics were just consistent in what they do they'd have a ring by now and they should've beaten this Heat team.
But no, when they get ahead, they allow teams back in the game. When the games get close, they suddenly turn into turnover monsters. When they're behind, they collapse back into iso plays and jack up threes even if it's not working. Tatum and Brown combined were 18/90 (20%) from the 3pt line this entire series. They also had 51 total turnovers between just the two of them as well. Heck, Tatum has history with bad turnovers as well. As he broke the NBA record last year with 95 of them in a single post-season. You WILL NOT win with your primary star playing in that way.
They need a true PG and a closer who can set the pace and not turnover the ball in those situations. Tatum will have random games where he pops off but more often than not, he hardly shoots or demands the ball in the 4th quarter as seen throughout these playoffs. We've seen him travel SO MANY TIMES when trying to make the right decision in clutch time. Also, Smart is a defensive PG and not a primary ball-handler. This is why they picked up Brogdon, but they hardly have used him like that. The best player to fit this role would be Damian Lillard, but there's no way they'll be able to get him without losing Brown and a few other things. Dame also brings a new culture to the team. He's a seasoned vet with true leadership qualities. The Celtics need to learn to not quit when things are going downhill and that starts from the top down. Coaches and the stars have to bring that to the table.
