Hey Ross, I'm in the south of France right now and there are fig trees growing literally everywhere!! Even roadside figs taste incredible. If you ever get a chance you should go.
Here in the Pacific Northwest, the figs themselves overwinter. I bought the plant in April from the local nursery and it had 2 small overwintered figs which started growing again and ripened this August. Interesting.
Harvey gives it a good report on his web site, although he’s in a hot and dry environment. As one of the earliest, it seems worth a try almost anywhere, I would think. But maybe in the best fig growing climates it just gets eclipsed by even tastier varieties.
I can't grow any thing that squirrel and birds can see. I have one purple and one yellow figs. When the purple about to ripened birds and squirrel eat them all. The yellow figs my family have a chance to enjoy them. Thanks for the video and information about figs
I just picked up a 1 yr old RDB plant and looking forward to it fruiting. Any chance of mine fruiting on its 2nd year? It is indoors now getting a nice head start and growing fast. Maybe 18 ito 24 nches tall now. Thanks
@@danielmorales5265 wow. That is great news. For many years, All i have ever tasted and known about was just a Hardy Chicago. I am looking forward to tasting this one this Summer hopefully. Thanks for letting me know.
Hello Ross All of your figs tree is so green and healthy, and some of my figs tree leaves is yellow and dropping , can u get me some pointer why the leaves ,it's turning yellow I am in Florida
hey ross i have a quick question! what would you say is the most hardy fig tree to grow in zone 7? that will be able to have the best chance surviving the winter? is it the ronde de bordeaux? also i might go to the staten island fig festival this year and bring my gf so i might see you there!! should i bring my fig tree with me it has no ripe figs yet though and i only have one small tree
Hardy Chicago or Malta Black! Up to you on the tree buddy. You may be able to find someone to trade with. Who knows! How good are you at selling something I guess?
iL Lupo. I'm from Heidelberg in Germany which is hardiness zone 7b. Ronde de Bordeaux in our climate is as hardy as Hardy Chicago. Ronde de Bordeaux is seen as one of the most hardy varieties here. Only two local varieties, "Lussheim" and "Martinsfeige" are said to be a bit more hardy.
is jammy kinda like mushy? the mushy like texture of the figs i've had is a turnoff. gooey is fine. mushy sorta makes me wanna hurl. i'm funny about texture.
I do not think it's « Ronde de Bordeaux ». « Ronde de Bordeaux » fig is really round and is fully ripe without a white area inside. A jam ball, very fruity.

WOW... you have so many fig trees. I think you have more fig tress than a nursery. Good for you.
Nice looking fig. I just finished trying to graft and put some cuttings in the cups to try to root the RDB. Fingers crossed
Best of luck!
ty Ross, I followed all your tips on the grafting hope it sticks.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing
There are only 5 different long fingered fig leaf varieties?? Which are they? Great video.
Well I'm sure there's some more, but the more common out there are Dalmatie, RdB, Longue D'Aout, Brunswick
What fig would you suggest the most for zone 7b/8b (The Netherlands)? I bring mine in before the first frost by the way. Thanks a million!
This one for sure.
Smith, Malta Black, I258.

Too much water or not enough water.

Jammy is literally just like jam!
do you notice if a branch does not grow fig at all for this season it will never grow any figs? It should be cut off.
No reason to cut it off.
Where do I get a cutting?
Cuttings can be found online in the winter. I may have some in Nov if you message me.
I do not think it's « Ronde de Bordeaux ».
