Boston is a great city with a colorful transit system, but the transit is terrible. The trains are very old and run down and the T is very poorly organized and it can be confusing just to get a ticket
I agree and still think that passengers should always use trash cans to throw their trash in not to trash the commuter train like we need to explain this use of trash cans a lot more
I'm a San Francisco man, and I think Boston has as many different types of public transit as we do. Boston always felt like the San Francisco of the East to me.
Boston and San Francisco are like museums of the public transportation while in the rest of the countries there is no any transportation (exept NYC).In Boston also dont have elevated trains, monorails, suspension railways and lifts so is not all types that exist.
Wow! this is truly eye opening! I never realized how insane public transportation can be! This feeling can only be expressed in the form of a haiku. I like to ride bus Bus like to ride me as well I feel like am bus
Boston is a great city with great transit systems. They may be old now, but I found using the T so much easier than the modern (but awful) Metro in Washington DC. I mostly used the Green line and Red line, but also used the Commuter Rail to Salem and Rockport. I love the area.
Not gonna lie, had MTA thought of turning the Metro Subway into a dual-mode train similar to Blue Line, an extension to White Marsh would have happened years ago but unfortunately their single-minded or is hindered by tunnel vision.
In the US in the 50s and 60s we practically abandoned public transportation in favor of the automobile. You can thank Big Oil corporations for that! Even now public transport is still poorly funded in most areas and we've given up rail rights-of-way that used to connect communities. We're just starting to become aware of our mistakes.
One of the Reason here in L.A. that they Lost the Red Cars, the Old Pacific Electric Cars by March of 1961 & the Streetcars & Trolley Busses Two Years Later in March of 63, it was All Busses in the L.A. Region Until July 1990 Until the Blue Line (Now A Line) Brought Rail Transit back to L.A. & 30 Years Later, 6 Rail Lines, With More in the Way L.A. is Growing with Rail Systems.
I enjoy Public Transport in Europe.US transportation is built on the car because the majority can afford one and the price of a license and insurance as compared to Europe, where private car ownership is not only frowned upon but Also because of the vast distances between most major metropolitan centers not on the east and west coasts. Seeing how most European Countries are smaller than the majority of American states, the gov will build public transport no matter how much it costs and how much it loses. That's OK, Keep taxing the people who work. Its not prudent to build public transport where they benefit only the few. Driving and owning a car in Europe is frowned upon and actively discouraged.
If you have your ear to the ground on when they'll have the new CRRC Orange Line cars out for acceptance testing on the third track between Community College and Wellington, let me know! Otherwise, I'll drop you a line! I'm trying to get info from the MBTA board for a promo video...
PCC Cars are long gone they used trolly poles which came off requiring the driver to go out and fix them. Since they closed the A line repacing it wirh busses because it ran without a seperate right way the used watertown square as a place to park them but since they removed the A line tracks years latter so went the place to park them. The riverside D line is the newest line and so they built a large parking area up at riversided station. They don't have room and they bought at least a new generation since most of which have aready be scrapped.
They still use PCC cars on the Mattapan- Ashmont Line they have just been refurbishing them so they have not been running recently but they are still used.
San Francisco Made a Damn Commitment to Keep the Classic PCC Cars going Strong in Frisco on its F Line, I Rode them in May of 2018 & Most of the Cars are Dedicated to Transit Systems that Had the PCC Cars Back in the Day & were Painted to Resemble the Colors of the Streetcars.
Your right about diversity though, I've always liked all the different kinds of transportation we have , another neat thing that a lot of places don't have (probably because a lot people don't know it exists) is the mbta commuter ferry routes that run from hingham ,hull,Logan airport,Charlestown and long and rowes wharf by the arquaim
Geez those red and white trains look horrible! its like it's 1987 with boston's transit system. The trolley buses look very industrial. Overall their transit system is very similar to Toronto's with the streetcars turned LRT's with the pentograph
Nana Okyere At 5:13 you can see the new one but they still have these old trains running, but trust me They are making newer Trains for the orange line and red line, and I think the blue line. But I think its gonna be like in 2020 or 2021, if you don't belive me search it up.
Boston is such an amazing city with one of the best and most colorful transit systems in the country
Brockton south station

That is scary

Cursed with the Boeings, cursed with the Bredas, yup, pretty damn close!!

Boston's transit system is just fabulous! I used the Green Line all the time when I visited the city in 2017.
Glad you enjoyed our city! You'll have to come back when the PCC cars have been rebuilt - they have plenty of life in them yet!
always loved boston and philly and sf for the diversity in transit modes!
Honestly we are spoiled here in Boston. Even with the dysfunction we get at times, we still have so many options.
Wow! this is truly eye opening! I never realized how insane public transportation can be! This feeling can only be expressed in the form of a haiku.
I like to ride bus
Bus like to ride me as well

The MBTA:
Cool stations
Good trains
Bad service (Green & Red only)
I live in the Phoenix area which is car centric and has only one light rail line. I definitely feel some train envy.
People here for the most part absolutely take the Ⓣ for granted.
In effect the Green Line is a tram or what in Brussels they called a pre metro whereby trams run underground for part of their journey.
Omg, I miss Boston so much! Especially the green line!
OMG ME TOO

The DC metro is amazing imo
What's with those trolley busses with the poles down? (around 10:30) They on battery?
That was just a regular bus.
East coast systems are so much cooler than west coast. :)
Zephyr Tiger and yet I am still fine in the west coast
I love in Boston and personally feel like the West has better systems
Zephyr Tiger not really at the end of the trip you must get off the bus
San Francisco actually has arguably as diverse transport as Boston
@@EvanAviator Actually SF has Bart & Caltrain. I love both the San Francisco & Boston public transportation system
I've ridden the commuter rail, the Red Line and the Green Line. Orange Line a couple times when the Red Line was fubar.
Not gonna lie, had MTA thought of turning the Metro Subway into a dual-mode train similar to Blue Line, an extension to White Marsh would have happened years ago but unfortunately their single-minded or is hindered by tunnel vision.
Did MBTA (the T) get those Orange Line cars from eastern Europe *BEFORE* the fall of the wall?
They are hawker-sidlly cars from the 70s
@@Mutatedordinary Thanks for the reply. I still think their design leaves much to be desired. But oh well...
wow I Like trains and buses now were on lockdown and were opening up slowly

Blame General Motors and the people who wanted the car as well, nothing but ignorant brats
Nice will there be a 2018 NYC Subway Video?
You know that is definitely in the realm of possibility!!!!
timosha21 id like to see another Staten Island railway video as well
I like filming SIR but it is always a challenge to film with the headways being big.
done: th-cam.com/video/uXs8WBQzLQU/w-d-xo.html
Do they plan to expand ther existing trolleybus wires network?
They plan to remove it

These are so good videos Tim. I'm really enjoying them. Your editing is great too. Thankyou from New Zealand.
8:24 Two #71 Harvard buses with the second one appearing to be empty.
joe stewart probably due to bunching
Astute observation!

European transit is used by many because it goes everywhere
how did the poles just magically connect at the exact right spot?
Kevin Howard
they have those metal plates on top of the wire that guide the pantograph to the wire
Magic
Probably got a mark on the pavement or somewhere for the bus driver to stop at for proper alignment, or something.
I saw its State of the Art New Rail Cars their Putting Out.
I'll admit I looked through the entire video to see if I had happened to be in one of the Orange or Red Line clips. ☺️ Great video!
Lol - These are snippets of fuller videos to come - I will have a dedicated red line and orange line video :O

last I read complete phase in of the new cars will be by 2022 and testing by the end of this year!
Όλοι οι συρμοί (light rails - metro - tram) είναι εξαιρετικοί αλλά χρειάζονται επειγόντως ανακατασκευή / τεχνολογική επικαιροποίηση...
They probably did away with all of the PCC cars by now. Hard to get parts for them anymore. That's why Pittsburgh got rid of theirs a long time ago.

What makes green line sound like r188/r143/r142a
The have the same propulsion motors.
Where is the location at 1:09 located?
South station.
Cool ,too bad the mattapan line wasn't running a this time as you said but it's back to normal now
seriously?! That is a shame that it opened up literally a week after I visited! ha! In any case good to hear its back in service.
timosha21 yeah It was weird that it randomly shut down for a few days ,apparently it was for manticene on the trolley

Pleasingly little graffiti, even if those subway trains are looking a little tired.
I like trolleybuses. The overhead wires need more improvement.
Great 👌❗
Nice something like San Francisco.
San Francisco was the first thing I thought of as I watched the video.
Yup, lots of love for the SF Muni and the Bart system, and also Caltrain
Apprezzato!* * * * *

Oh god the screeching of the subways are so obnoxious.

I want to move to Boston.. I hate cars
All, it ain't that diverse, come to Philly....
it's always trash and will still be trash in 2020 --2022
Like you could have a better mode of transportation aside from the polluting car!
