I'm 6 years into a large layout build, there's a very wide river scene that I'm absolutely dreading having a go at. Undoubtedly it will be the last thing I do on the layout. Thank you for sharing your trials and tribulations George, helps people like me with ideas (UV resin) and things to watch out for, like keeping reference photos anywhere you can see them after you start.
Yes definitely try the UV. And check out next weeks video for the finished result, hopefully you’ll agree it’s a much better solution to this first approach
Looking forward to the new version. Looking at your drone video - Shock, Horror. I note that the Guard's compartment is no longer at the downhill end of the train! Such is the progress that air braking allows, and there can now be an Observation coach at the downhill end!
oh so that WAS you at nant last week! Chris did remark on there being a drone whilst we were on the down to Aber, so I was wondering if you mightve had something to do with it. Really weird to see myself on the firemans side from such a high up distance.
@@GWilliamsonModels And here was me thinking you spent some quiet time at Nant contemplating narrow gauge in all its beauty, while waiting for the next train. Also, your drone shot of the departing train shows that it really does disappear through a well disguised hole in the backdrop ... . ☺
You've summed up every attempt I've made at cutting down a RTR chassis in OO. Just not gonna bother in future, it's too expensive. I'll pray the model I want gets made by Rapido 😅
@gordanmilne7034 There's an idea. Coincidentally I asked them if the Stirling Single would come back and coincidentally it was announced in the same week, pure fluke!
Well, now I’m definitely eager to see. I would have just tried to build a little bank on the opposite side, right there in the tiny corner and then have some earth jut out from the main bank and re-shape either some more epoxy or mod podge. So, yes, like I already said, eager.
Amazing drone shots, George 👍. When it came to do the water effects, could you have maybe tried a practice run on a scrap piece of wood or something similar before committing to the layout? Good luck for the 2nd attempt 👍😀👍
Oh George. It hasn’t gone wrong it just isn’t finished. Carve out loft insulation to the right shapes and sizes for the bankings, paint them on your workbench and put the scenics on them, and stick them in place with mod podge. Then rework a new layer of water round the banks to get the water movement right. Having done quite a lot of water on layouts, I have found Galleria Heavy Structure Gel Is brilliant for making what looks like moving water. You use a pallet knife to put it on and you can get height and movement with it. I buy mine from The Range but plenty of other places sell it. BUT knowing you, you’ve probably already ripped it off!!!
Whilst it didnt turn out how you liked its informed me of another product I can use for my own stuff so thanks for such! Also where've you gotten your RAF decals for your Douglas? I could use some.
Yes, loads of products out there to try, and all incredibly different even if they’re meant to do the same thing! The decals were custom made by a chap on eBay, but he’s no longer supplying sadly
Hi 👋 I'm pretty sure you don't need to dig or rip that out to rescue it. Once you have the rocks set up against the bank and build the opposite bank with expanding foam then I think you will be ok? 💪
Isn’t “Rip it up and start again” wasn’t that an 80s song by Orange Juice!? That aside😊 sorry you’re having such a frustrating time. I look forward to the revision (much as I enjoyed the bit you ripped up). Thanks for sharing.
Just before my time sorry, I wouldn’t know ;) Yes thanks, it’s all a learning curve, and I think I’ve got it looking much closer to what I want..you’ll see that next week
Showing your "mistakes" is probably as useful as showing the stuff that goes well first time. It proves that even someone who is creating stunning models can have bad days too, although I'm sure that there are many that would have been perfectly satisfied with your first attempt.
Yes well that’s what I was thinking, it helps to see things going wrong, or not as planned. And next week will show the finished replacement, which is much better
Ahhh G you need to get a toothless Budgie cos nothing succeeds like a toothless Budgie joking aside you do a brilliant job modelling and the vids are super so keep it up and thank you for sharing
Ooh! ... see what you meant about the width last week. Tricky bu99ers, them nentydd bach. Looks like time for 'Plan B'. Just shows you .... go with your gut .
Begrudgingly liking the vid just for the algorithm and not for the suffering
Aah ... we have to be cruel to be kind (what with comments apparently affecting the algorithm too!)
Cheers 😅 it looks 100x better now I’ve redone it - you’ll see next week

Yes that’s since the new coaches. Makes a big difference to the look!
Rip it and start again as the song goes.
I'm sure you'll get it in the end and it will look great.
Great drone footage at the end (we me on it! 😜)
Cheers, yes I’m much happier with the new stream, you’ll see that next week

You could actually hear and see a tiny drone over a steam loco and a gaggle of gawking grockles?
Yes That was me, I walked up from the village to get photos of the stream, but heard the whistle so came up to the station - good timing!

Too be fair, Rapido are really good at doing random stuff, so you never know!
Exactly. Wasn't expecting Ivor this year! I can pray for Furness Evolution coaches and a K2 😂
@@reeheehee9615Why not ask them?

I could have done that, but the whole thing didn’t seem right. Wait and see next week, hopefully you’ll agree it was the right thing to do
You know what they say, ain’t that bad, great effort!
Wait until you see how it looks now I’ve redone it - much better!
great share! :)

It’s all sorted now, I ripped it all off and redid it. You’ll see next week
@@GWilliamsonModels I look forward to seeing it 👍
Well done any way hope it works out
I think it has now I’ve remade it all, you’ll see next week

I ripped it off just after that last shot was filmed, and it looked 100x better now. It was worth the hassle
@@GWilliamsonModels I knew you’d do that! So I’m now looking forward to the next video showing what you’ve done. As always very interesting.

Too late for the advice sorry, I ripped it up after that video 😅 it’s all finished now, so you’ll see it next week

I`m usually put in a corner after that one with a tea towel over my head 🙄
