Wow! Other than parking it starts out looking okay in the lobby and breakfast. They must of spent the money on the lobby. The roof, windows and hallway a problem. Thanks for the honest hotel review 👍
My thoughts exactly and after all the money they spent you would have thought they could have got the simple things right but apparently not. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Nice job on your review. Looked like a mixed review with some pluses and minuses too. The views of the snow capped mountains in the area were beautiful. I would definitely be turned off by the appearance of the hallways having dirty laundry strewn about. Some of the food looked good but the presentation and layout could have been better at the buffet. You survived the stay! Have a great day.
We did and we did try and make the best of it but man they sure tried to try my patients. The setting was amazing, as was the view but even that did not make up for the things we saw trying to get to out room. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, absolutely love your hotel reviews. I can't think of anyone who would of been happy with what you had to put up with, very disappointing. Even your ham, egg and chips looked like I had cooked it at home. We stayed for 2 nights a couple of years ago in it previous name, when we got to our room it had not been cleaned from the previous users, bed used and unmade, dirty cups and towels. Not nice. Such a shame that you went there to treat Mrs Metalman and had that experience. I hope they take your experience onboard, fix the issues and offer you a free return trip. Thanks for sharing
That's the first time we have ever stopped there Steve and sounds like things have not changed much since you were there last. Real shame mind as it is in such a perfect location with brilliant views to the front and back. I really hope they get it sorted out. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Great film again Alan, What a shame… just sheer lack of staff training and poor management.. I just could believe the towels in the corridors and the reception.. that’s terrible.. It’s amazing how two hotels located close by that are within the same group can be so different. Just. Goes to show what a good manager can do. Thanks again. Matthew & Sue
We were both real shocked when we went to our room and saw all the stuff in the corridor, not blaming the cleaners, obviously understaffed but still not what you are expecting to see just after check in time. Totally agree a good manager can make or break a team. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
They have a laundry strike going on. lol. That’s awful. Sorry to hear about your wife. We’ll keep her in our thoughts and prayers. It’s a pretty nice view and nice looking room though. Hope you two have a great week. 👍👍
Haha, you sure would think so with all that laundry just lying around. The location and the view were both great, shame so much of the other was not. Thanks so much for stopping by and I appreciate your kind words regarding Mrs Metalman, cheers Alan
Oh gosh I’m stunned as to how bad this was 😢 All that laundry & dirty towels in the corridor was absolutely disgusting. TBH to say that was a superior room didn’t really do it for me with all the difficult ceiling angles plus not keen on that wardrobe. I really like Glenridding with everything it has to offer though parking is at a premium especially in the summer months so obviously another area where the hotel was sadly lacking. What I did like was the bar & dining area but what a price though the breakfast did look ok. Always had good service at the Helvellyn cafe when about 20 of us land for tea n cake … they always go out of their way to make you feel welcome & delicious too. Particularly disappointing that this was a special trip for Mrs Metalman… I do hope she is feeling much better & im sure will be getting spoiled today. 🥰
Yes we were the same and for a supposed 'Superior Room' we were expecting more but totally shocked at what we did see walking in and inside the room as well. We loved the Helvellyn Country Kitchen, real nice atmosphere there, brilliant staff and the food was great, shame they do not do an overnight stay there, or we would be making a booking. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi guys Hope you are both well ☺️ What a great honest review Morgs is coeliac so he is on a gluten free diet too. It's so annoying when hotels don't cater or have very limited choice of gluten free food 😢 especially when you have contacted them before hand. Dirty laundry everywhere is not setting a very good impression of a hotel. Bathroom looked nice, great that you had a bath and shower in the room pity no shower gel Dinner was expensive for what you got, poor Mrs M only able to have chips. Beeakfast looked better. Hope you're having a good week Morgs Jo and Boo 🐕 ❤
breakfast was a real highlight to be fair but man, the evening meal was awful and way overpriced. I had never heard of coeliac until about 6 weeks ago and it sure has impacted what Mrs Metalman can now eat. Real disappointed with our stay at the Ullswater Inn, which is such a shame as it is situated in a real prime location. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hello from your friends in Naples, Florida. We always enjoy your hotel reviews. Some pluses and many minuses here. Thanks for sharing with us, have a great weekend 👍 💯 ❤
Thanks for watching, appreciate it and you are so right but unfortunately there were more minuses than pluses on this one, which was a shame, cheers Alan
I totally agree and even more so that Mrs Metalman can now only eat gluten free food. It makes you wonder what is being added to our food that has such an effect of some people. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Damn, that was such a disappointment. The whole feel of the hotel is one that they either don't have enough staff or the right staff. We stayed at the Amble Inn a while back, also part of the Inn Collection Group and overall it was a pleasant experience. Last time we visited we called again for food and it was good. The prices for the food (at the Ullswater Inn) were a bit steep - I think there is definitely a 'Lake District' tax applied to those prices. Parking is a bit poor but I guess they can't expand the footprint of the hotel and I doubt the council will relinquish a money making car park for the benefit of the hotel either. A good honest review Alan.
Thanks for visiting Andy and you are right about the parking and to be honest I think the hotel as well, felt really slap dash while we were there. Put us off these Inn Collection hotels now to be honest but good to hear you had a good experience at Amble mind, cheers Alan
The unwelcome dirty laundry in the hallway was a surprise. The views outside are incredible however! Sounds like perhaps a place to avoid until they have things worked out there.
You called that right, could not believe what we were seeing when we checked in and that was after a multi million pound refurbishment as well, such a shame as it was situated in such a nice place. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I stayed there a while ago with my husband. I can't remember anything about, i only remembered the stunning view from the room. I think we ate somewhere else.
It had recently been taken over and only been reopened about 16 days when we stayed but we were so disappointed with our stay there, not what we were expecting at all. Thanks very much for watching, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Looks like a great location and the views are amazing! I like the surroundings, the lobby and the dining area. Sorry for the bad experience . That’s not good , people want to stay in hotels to be comfortable but if you can’t get sleep because of the light and noise that’s absolutely not good. This is an excellent and honest review Alan! Say hi to Mrs. Metalman hope the Celiac is not torturing her that much.
Thanks for watching, real good of you and we appreciate your kind words. Lovely location and views but we were so disappointed with the hotel, not what we were expecting at all, which was such a shame, cheers Alan
I've stayed at the Angel Inn in Bowness multiple times. It is also part of the Inn Collection group. My most recent visit was last week with my partner, the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, the parking is an issue as it is with the lakes in general I find, I would advise booking direct as opposed to a third party site, the rooms are comfortable, the menu is substantial and their options for gluten free are slightly more broad, My partner was offered a pan fried fish as opposed to battered as she is gluten free which she demolished 😂, we will now have to try other Inn Collection sites and compare as you have, Always loved video reviews and this is no different, consider me subscribed and I hope your wife is doing well.
Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and I appreciate the tip about the Angel Inn too, as I was a bit worried about trying any more of these Inn Collection Hotels after our last experience. Mrs Metalman is still trying to get to grips of what you can and cannot eat but real nice of you to let us know of your wife's experience at the Angle Inn and how they accommodated her gluten free needs. Take care, cheers Alan
Oh my, Alan! Not a good start. The food was expensive, but the breakfast looked great. The location was fabulous. The scenery was stunning. The light and noise would have kept me awake too. "Mind your head!" I appreciate your honest review. Hopefully, the management will see your video and start putting things right asap.
Yes, fair play the breakfast was excellent, as was the view but spoilt by the very dirty windows, yet they had just re-opened after a multi million pound refurbishment - wow! Cannot alter the shape of the hotel but a warning sign or bit of rubber would have stopped a nasty bump on Mrs Metalmans head. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Cheers, Alan, for the honest review. It's safe to say I won't be staying there. Really poor, leaving dirty laundry everywhere. All the best to the Mrs.
Thanks very much for watching Marc and we were real surprised have to say, especially after a multi-million pound refurbishment. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Very good review. Disgusting laundry situation! GF option awful; my daughter is on gf diet, am a fully trained chef so I know how easy it is to adapt! Good view x
Thanks very much for watching Christine and being coeliac and on a GF diet is no fun, so I sympathize with your daughter. Given the money that had been spent on the refurbishment I could not believe what we were seeing when we checked in. Such a shame as the setting is in such a special location, cheers Alan
Hmm 57 into 19 sounds problematic! Food at the Helvellyn looked great and good to know about the gluten range. Wasn’t this the hotel that flooded a few years back? This is a dog friendly hotel WOOF WOOF 😂 very poor lack of response re the gluten offerings £17.50, it looks nice but not worth that price! Lovely bench find! Great news on the breakfast, seating area looks nice. Great looking Whitby fish and chips! Shame about the disturbed sleep, shouldn’t be laundry out at that time of day, ridiculous. It’s usually me banging my head when I stay places! Superb video, we wont be staying at that chain ever! 10/10 👍
yes it was all flooded by Storm Desmond and took a year to reopen but eventually taken over by the Inn Collection Group, closed and refurbished again. Fair play it has only been open for about 16 days but we were shocked at what we saw then trying to get to our room and the food was way over priced, even for the lakes. Mr Chips at Whitby takes some beating mind for price and quality. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMANyou’d think this would still be the honeymoon period, everything should be spotless and running perfectly! Mr Chips is hard to beat although I enjoyed my fish and chips from the Anchor in Scarborough yesterday. So much so I’m now craving more!
This is why I love videos of hotels. It shows the real look of the place. It does look like a nice location. Sorry about the celiac. I have that in my family but so far I haven't developed it. Thanks for your continued support. I do continue to watch your videos but haven't commented lately. Sorry about that. I have just been so burnt out from TH-cam lately. All the best to you and your wife
Thanks for watching, real good of you and yes celiac sucks but just got to live with it now. The location was great, the view amazing and even breakfast was good but everything else was not good at all, so disappointing, cheers Alan
Must do better indeed! We were shocked at this for such an expensive hotel. Such a shame that your treat for Mrs metalman ended up being so disappointing 😞. Either way , at least you got a beautiful day for your walk, and the mountains looked stunning. We hope you managed to make the best of it, and that Mrs metalman is feeling better. Thanks for your honesty All the best Shell and Pete😊👊👍
Thanks very much for watching and yes, on the positive side the walk up the valley and then the afternoon in Keswick were both brilliant, we ended up doing over 8 miles in the sun, so we were both happy with that, cheers Alan
Very honest review. Looks like a pub b&b to be honest. Laundry was terrible and that evening meal ..... I would.have been fuming. Bet it was pricey to stay as well! Hopefully Mrs Metalman enjoys the next break more 😊
You are so right Kerry and like Mrs Metalman said, it was a posh Weatherspoon's but the food was not as good and twice as expensive. I thought it was some sort of joke when we were checking into our room with all the dirty laundry in the corridor The real shame is it is in such a perfect spot in the lakes but they are not making the most of it. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Oh wow! One would think that this is just growing pains....but usually when you open something new you try to go all the way and beyond of what would be expected...The word spreads very fast and if it is negative even faster...Would be interesting to see it later but I guess that may be your 1st and last visit.... Take care Alan, thanks for honest review!
Absolutely and it would be nice if it was just teething problems as it is set in a real nice prime location. You never know, when they get it all sorted out they may invite us back again....Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Exactly Phil, I did appreciate it was newly opened so thought there may be a few teething problems but did not expect what we found. Real shame as it is in such a prime location. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
We're due to stay there in a couple of weeks so hoping it improves. We've stayed in a few Inn Collection hotels and so far we've been lucky. Swan and Wordsworth in Grasmere were both amazing. Coniston Inn was lovely but a bit out from the centre. Thanks for the video warning
I hope so too Graham and by the time you go, I hope things have improved. I did a review of the Swan Inn at Grasmere about 5 weeks ago and it was great, we really enjoyed it there, and that was pushed us into trying another of the Inn Collection Group of hotels. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Wow, that is a list of too many things to make you unimpressed with this place. The fact that the hallways were a mess and you had a hard time sleeping is enough right there! I'm sure this video will help people make a different choice when they're looking for a room to stay at.
My thoughts exactly Eric and they really need to get their act together there, which is a shame as it is situated in such a prime location. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Oh my! I’d say there’s potential in this place. Great location with lovely views. It’s a shame about the dirty linen. Yes, more gluten free please! My partner is a coeliac and it can be a real bother finding gluten free meals. Thanks Alan for raising awareness 😊 I hope Mrs Metalman is well. X
Totally agree and we sure are finding that out before, never heard of coeliac before but I know all about it now and it is not nice. I really wanted this to be a relaxing couple of days away for Mrs Metalman but we sure were disappointed big time with the hotel. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Oh dear indeed! A very good, well balanced review. I think when, not if, they get to see this video, they will be extremely embarrassed. Well Done, Alan.
Appreciate you stopping by Mal, it's been a tough start to the year for Mrs Metalman, so I was hoping to make this a real memorable stay - it was but for all the wrong reasons, cheers Alan
This hotel sounds like a major letdown! 😬 It's a shame they seem to be dropping the ball after their expensive renovation. The dirty laundry in the halls, that's just weird! I appreciate the honest review. It's good to get the real picture before booking a place, especially somewhere pricey. The hard chips and sleepless night are a bummer too. It's a shame it wasn't a better experience for you and Mrs. Metalman! 😕
After the awful start to the year she has had I really wanted to make sure she has a real great time away and this seemed the perfect place but man were we disappointed. Given the money they has spent on the refurb, you would not have expected this. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Glad you enjoyed it and the hotel is situated in a lovely place but man all the dirty laundry outside the rooms really put us off, as did the price of an evening meal. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan. First of all, I am sorry to hear about Mrs. Metalma's health condition. I hope she can comfortably live with. What's the shame! I looked back the view through your hotel room and also hiking out a couple times. So much potential visitors allure for. Such beautiful snow covered mountains. haha It is a little tricky about pet friendly policy, I reckon. Food looks fabulous. I don't see many historic building hotels with ornate details in the US. It has a charm, and it has heritage. I hope the owner or manager really take the issue seriously watching your film and make some improvements on the hotel. words spread really quick.... Well said, mr. Alan. Fair enough , I would say.
Yes we were disappointed with out stay at the hotel and although the breakfast was very nice the evening meal was not and way over price as well. Thank you for your good wishes for Mrs Metalman and really nice of you to watch and take the time to leaver a comment, good of you, cheers Alan
0:18 What the heck? ..... 1:25 Look's nice ..... 2:00 That look's great ..... 4:00 Very nice .... I like the lamps ..... 5:50 "Shhhhhhhhhh" ...... 8:00 Look's like MY place ...... 10:40 That look's beautiful ..... 11:10 May I dig in? ..... 16:06 Great advice.
Lovely location and lovely view from the room but man those windows were filthy and the bedding we had to walk around, never seen anything lie that at any hotel before. To be fair, breakfast was excellent, appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
I know exactly what you mean but I did want to try something there on an evening as I was doing a review and I think that was the cheapest thing on the menu. No chance of me over eating there! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Sorry to see that this place were not that good. And that they didn't even bother answer the questions before the visit. And I am sorry Mrs Metalman didn't get much better. Not even get a proper meal. At least the nature was beautiful. Mybe you should take the other place, if you go there next time. Thanks for honest review Alan. Stay safe and cheers 💞
Thank goodness for the nature, which was so nice and the hotel was a massive disappointment and I really wanted Mrs Metalman to have a great time there as well. Real nice of you to stop by, something I appreciate, cheers Alan
What a shame Alan. Your treat for Mrs Metalman turned into a bit of a nightmare. The difference between this place and The Swan is like chalk and cheese. Looks like the best part was when you escaped out for a walk up the valley. Twenty quid for fish n chips, Yikes! They are really after scalping people aren't they. They looked like they had collected all the dirty laundry from their other places and dumped it all in yours. I'd have been strongly tempted to ask for my dosh back and cleared off elsewhere. Can you imagine stopping there in the high season when I bet they really take your pants down for the privilege of staying there. Good luck Alan and I hope you stay a better place next time.
Yes it it had been full, goodness know what it would have been like. I do not mind paying for good food but that evening meal was awful but fair play, the breakfast was great but man what a disappointment the hotel was, not what I was wanting for Mrs Metalman. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thanks very much for the tip, I have drove passed it twice before but never called in and always wondered what it would be like. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Shame - great honest review mate. Sounds awful. But a shame that the first one in the chain wasn’t replicated here. Makes us glad we decided to take our room with us in our travels. Some of the hotels we stayed in helped with that decision.
Aye a real good call as well, you know what you are getting and you know where you are going too. To be honest we were real disappointed and I was so annoying that is is not what I has hoping for, for a nice treat for Mrs Metalman. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Great and honest review Alan. Disappointing :-( Shocking that parking is limited! And all that dirty laundry lying around is not a good look as you rightly say. The bar / restaurant area did look lovely though. 17.50 for ham/eggs and chips😮😮! Ouch! Maybe it will fall into place with time. But not for me. At the prices you pay in the Lakes I would expect it to be top notch. Sorry that you guys didn’t get the experience that you paid for😢 Thanks for posting Alan. Very useful to those considering going.
Yes we were so disappointed Alan and could not believe it when we were trying to get to our room and saw all the dirty laundry outside the rooms. The food was way over the top expensive but we did both enjoy the breakfast, which was well cooked. Such a shame as it is in such a good spot. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thanks for the video, I wouldn't stop there either, I noticed in your video they had no real ale despite the hand pumps at the bar. Also they couldn't fit the doors on the wardrobe as the bed is too close.
I was real surprised to be honest, as it had just reopened after a multi million pound refurbishment, so you think it would be spot on, far from it to be fair. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
What a shame i thought that hotel would be good i have a room booked there for July was looking forward to it not so much now every inn collection hotel we've stayed at has been brilliant one i can recommend is the coniston inn by far the best one in the Lakes if you wanted to try another one 👍
Thanks for that recommendation David as we was a bit worried about booking another one of these Inn Collection Hotels. Fingers crossed by the time you come things will have settled down a bit and you will enjoy your stay. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
As ever Alan, you were totally honest and to the point. It looked like all the money had been spent downstairs, but room service hadn't been upgraded at all. I know you never say what it cost you but I get the feeling it was pricey, and with no wow factor it was very under whelming. Did you do a TripAdvisor review? Felt sorry for Linda, but you are just going to have to book another stay away. Somewhere else! Nice location though, but that's not enough. I'm sure someone from the hotel will see this video and respond. Did you at any time tell the management about your experience? All hotels seem to have upped their food prices, but they need to deliver quality too. We're off to Snowdon in the morning, need a bit of good weather. Regards, Ashley
Always to a TripAdvisor review as well, good or bad, always like to let others know what we have found out and to say we were disappointed was an understatement. Breakfast and the location were both excellent, as was the view from our room but the windows were filthy, so really spoilt that. On check out there was just a young lad who had been helpful at breakfast so I did not think it was fair to be angry with him. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you up on Snowdon! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Looks like a nice base but they need to sort out the car parking if they are having so many rooms. Food looks good but seems some cleaning needs doing and its a bit overpriced but does look cosy. I have to be gluten free too, it can be hard finding places that serve it :/
Yes I agree and to be fair the breakfast was superb but what an awful evening meal and the price they were asking, not good. Shame about you having to eat gluten free food as well, Mrs Metalman has just found out she has celiac disease, so can now only eat completely gluten free food for the rest of her life. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
A lovely location, but goodness, there are much better ways to take care of laundry. When I worked a summer position one year...long time ago mind you...if the supervisor had have seen that, you would have been shown the door!! We all pay good money these days, and not looking for perfection, but there are certain things that I do look for, and cleanliness is one of them. I do know that even here the service industry is in dire need of people, seems that since 2020, not many really desire those types of employment. Hope your next outing is superb!!
Thanks very much for than and yes you are so right, I really wanted Mrs Metalman to enjoy this trip, as she has not had the best of starts to the new year but we were both so disappointed with what we saw. Thankfully the location was great so we were able to enjoy a couple of real nice walks out. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Breakfast was great but the evening meal was so overpriced and then to get hard chips as well, massive mistake eating there on a night time but lesson learned. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thanks for sharing. Timely review having spent a few days thinking about staying in the recently refurbished Ripon hotel owned by this group. Confess I was pleasantly surprised by your Swan Hotel review having had several bad experiences there but both your inn Collection stays in the off peak season and I wonder how they would cope in the summer. In fairness to the owners they are taking on properties that need lots of investment and are difficult to operate, many would otherwise cease trading. Even so no excuse for your ham, egg and chips….the photo of which (Monty Python comes to mind) at least gave us a laugh, sorry. Regards to Mrs Metalman, she will find plenty of places stepping up to the mark on gluten free thank goodness. Regards Derek.
That's a fair point as both Inns were very quiet when we visited, especially the Ullswater Inn, when we went down for breakfast (admittedly early) there was only 6 other people there, yet the chaos when we were trying to navigate around dirty laundry to get to our room, I could not believe it. Evening food was a bad joke but fair play the breakfast was excellent. Thanks very much for watching and I appreciate your comments regarding Mrs Metalman, cheers Alan
Hi Alan ooo dear this sounded quite bad and its great that you did an honest review, the dirty laundry laying around put me off and Sunday lunch seemed a bit overpriced and with not enough parking space for all of the rooms. The place outside that you ate at looked great with delicious food. Your room looked great though apart from the windows 🙂 Shame you got no response when they were contacted about gluten free which is surprising seeing as though you said 1 in 100 people are gluten free. Your walk outside looked beautiful with the gorgeous lake and I'm glad the breakfast and the bed was good :) We have never stopped in one of these hotels before but I can understand why you would be hesitant to do so. Hope Mrs M's head is OK and it's a shame that you had a bad experience. Thanks for being honest 👍~ Anna
Mrs Metalman was so excited about going to this hotel, especially as it set in a part of the Lakes that we both like but man when we were trying to get to our room, her face just dropped, not what we were expecting at all. Real shame as she has had a real tough start to the year and I wanted to spoil her but lesson learned for the future for sure. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Alan, I'm so sorry. I know you were looking forward to this trip with Mrs. Metalman. I cant believe upon check-in your room door was propped open with dirty towels. Dirty windows and no soap... Seems like housekeeping is less than good. Nice, no email response to the gluten-free inquiry too. Housekeeping and customer service are both crappy. How do they not have enough parking stalls? Celiac Disease is so common these days. There are also people who choose no gluten. They need to have more food options for those people. Happy to see the self-service breakfast was good. Sad that their costs are so crazy. Makes me think they are nailing people on costs because of the location. Jeez... that light! How can anyone sleep with that? Brutal about the noise too.. man, I'm so sorry! 14:38 I can see the look of disappointment on your face. You are such a happy go lucky guy.. your face reads less than happy. I am so sorry. I know you wanted to make this special for your wife and I am so sorry this place ruined it.
Thanks very much for watching and I sure appreciate your kind words. Yes we were both looking forward to this and I wanted to make it real special for Mrs Metalman as she had had such an awful start to the year but man we were so disappointed. I know they had just reopened after a refurbishment but some of the thing we encountered were totally unacceptable. Real shame as the hotel is in such a great spot and some amazing views all around it too. Thanks so much again, cheers Alan
Another great HONEST review from the METALMAN family. Obviously you’ve both been spoilt be having been to the Ladoure Falls and the Inn On The Lake, plus of course the Premiere Inn, Cockermouth. Don’t think I’ll be staying at the Ullswater Inn, in fact I’ve booked a room at the Brotherswater Inn for 4 nights and 2 nights in the Premier Inn, Cockermouth in early May. However, in the Ullswater Inn’s defence you must have arrived on laundry day and I’m pretty sure window cleaning day is on a Wednesday. 🤣 Cheers Mike 👍
Haha, yes it was an amazing view from the window but we could not take our eyes off the dirt on the windows, never seen that on a hotel before, especially after a refurbishment. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I stayed there in mid-March. Decor is errrm, different. Food was expensive and not worth it. Staff were indifferent. Room was clean and comfortable though. Best thing about the place is it's location. Central to plenty of top quality walks. Parking is a big issue. Limited spaces. Free parking overnight across the road, but move the car before 9am! Would I stay there again? No! A much better option is the Patterdale Hotel a few minutes down the road.....stay there instead!!
Thanks for the tip, never been to the Patterdale Hotel before but if we stop over in that area again we will give it a go. Sounds like it has not changed my at the Ullswater Inn since we stopped and I agree with you, it is in such a perfect location, such a shame other things let it down. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheer Alan
Maybe is a lot of snagging and just needs to settle down with staff. Getting staff i understand is difficult at the moment. Dirty washing is a big no. Well done for this review. My best frinwd has coeliac and can be as tou say difficult to get true gluten free food One thing i noticed in my hotel just ouside Ambleside was and i know its petty, is the plugs for charging my phone was opposite would prefer the socket next to the bed.
I was expecting a few snags Julie, especially as it only bee open for about 16 days but man what a shock we got going in and then the room was a disappointment as well. I will not mention the evening meal but fair play, the breakfast was top notch. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
It's such a simple thing isn't it. If you're tired or even worse, disabled and tired, even getting across the room to check is a struggle. A multi million pound refurb seems to be more a case of awful wallpaper but no thought of what people need.
Funny enough I have heard good reports about The Waterhead Inn, so maybe one to have a visit and do another review, as at the moment it is one great stay (the Swan Inn) and and very poor stay (the Ullswater Inn), so we need a decider lol. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
a fair review from the hotel inspector 😊could be some jobs on the line if the manager watches your review & see's all them laundry bags 🤔looks like there paying for the refurb with the profit of the food 🤣
No complains about the breakfast at all, it was great, just such a shame the rest of the food and the hotel did not meet that standard. On a positive note, we did find a lovely café to eat in next time we are in Glenridding :o). Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I hope you made a complaint and got a discount on your stay Alan, I thought at first you must have arrived in the morning to see all the dirty linen not at 3pm which was the case and you are paying for the views not to expect dirty windows! Food looked terrible
We were so disappointed, not what we were expecting at all, especially after it had just reopened after a multi million pound refurbishment. When we checked out I did say I was not happy and explained why but all I got was an apology, so thought I will let my review do my talking for me. Way behind with my watching after a couple of months of hospitals back and forwards but should be back on track by Sunday night. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
That is a shame and been there with a bad boss before and it is not good. I hope you are at a better place now. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
Yeah I know what you mean, it was amazing but man I was bummed about the dirt on the windows, which was worse than it looking on the GoPro, such a shame but hopefully they will get their act together there. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Could not agree more with you David, such a shame as this place could be a real gem, as it is in the perfect situation. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Guttred for yous mate nothing worse than trying to make life a little better for somone and it goes wrong but at least there will be plenty of guys watch this and think the same did you complain to them mate or just pack up and go never to return
On check out there was just a young lad who had been helpful at breakfast so I did not think it was fair to be angry with him, as he was trying his best but just put it down to lesson learned. Really wanted it to make it a special time away for Mrs Metalman as she has had an awful start to the year but at least the weather was great and sure is a blessing this year for sure. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Thank YOU :o)
Great film again Alan,
What a shame… just sheer lack of staff training and poor management..
Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
very poorly operated. The manager needs to get their act together. Mrs. Metalman I hope you are doing better. praying for you. you both take good care
Thanks so much for your kind words Judy, really appreciate that and also you taking the time to stop by, cheers Alan
Hi guys
Hope you are both well ☺️
What a great honest review
Morgs is coeliac so he is on a gluten free diet too. It's so annoying when hotels don't cater or have very limited choice of gluten free food 😢 especially when you have contacted them before hand.
Dirty laundry everywhere is not setting a very good impression of a hotel.
Bathroom looked nice, great that you had a bath and shower in the room pity no shower gel
Dinner was expensive for what you got, poor Mrs M only able to have chips.
Beeakfast looked better.
Hope you're having a good week
Morgs Jo and Boo 🐕 ❤
breakfast was a real highlight to be fair but man, the evening meal was awful and way overpriced.
I like your honest opinion on the hotel. Finding gluten free food isn't always easy to find. But a lot of people need it!
Have a great Sunday! Kaat
Thank you for taking us along with you. I don't think I'll ever get there, but many thanks for sharing my friend 🦇 👍
Never say never but if you ever do get here, I hope they have got their act sorted out this time. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Hello friend good afternoon my friend 🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🌹🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for visiting, real good of you to watch and take the time to leave a comment, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN ❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for your honesty
All the best
Shell and Pete😊👊👍
Thanks & have a great weekend 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞@@AlanMETALMAN
Wow. Not good! Really appreciate your honest reviews! Hopefully teething issues, but you paid full price, so you should get full quality service.
When I saw everything littering the walkway I had to say,WTF. It is a beautiful place to visit and hike. Cheers to you both.🤙
Glad you enjoyed it and the hotel is situated in a lovely place but man all the dirty laundry outside the rooms really put us off, as did the price of an evening meal.
I always like your hotel reviews Alan - like 149 with a full 18:39 minute view as always
Thanks for the visit Mark, good of you marra :o)
£17 for Ham, Egg and a few chips...i want 3 courses for that price....top review Alan.
If you haven't yet tried it, I can fully recommend Haweswater Hotel, art deco with fine dining, it's not cheap but a stay to remember
Thanks very much for the tip, I have drove passed it twice before but never called in and always wondered what it would be like. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN you're welcome, balcony, huge deep bath, it's great 👍
Shame - great honest review mate.
@@AlanMETALMAN really annoying mate. Very glad Mrs M can now go forward knowing what she can and can’t do. 👍👍👍
Great and honest review Alan.
Disappointing :-(
Shocking that parking is limited!
Sorry that you guys didn’t get the experience that you paid for😢
Thanks for posting Alan.
We’ve made to Wales but weather prospects are not good. Hoping now either Wednesday or Thursday will be ok
Another fantastic and honest review Alan, this looks really bad. 🙁
Appreciate you stopping by, not as good as we were hoping but still nice to get away for a break, cheers Alan
Good place to stay except for some disturbances. The food looks good.
Your walk outside looked beautiful with the gorgeous lake and I'm glad the breakfast and the bed was good :)
We have never stopped in one of these hotels before but I can understand why you would be hesitant to do so.
Do you know which Wednesday?
@@petersmithm9 Yes, it’s every Wednesday except in a leap year.
My best frinwd has coeliac and can be as tou say difficult to get true gluten free food
One thing i noticed in my hotel just ouside Ambleside was and i know its petty, is the plugs for charging my phone was opposite would prefer the socket next to the bed.
Come and try out The Waterhead Inn. I’d be more than happy to get you a room here and here your say :) we know you would enjoy it
Funny enough I have heard good reports about The Waterhead Inn, so maybe one to have a visit and do another review, as at the moment it is one great stay (the Swan Inn) and and very poor stay (the Ullswater Inn), so we need a decider lol. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMANcouldn’t agree more!! I’ve sent over an email :)

Thank you so much 🙂 Real nice3 of you to stop by, cheers Alan
a fair review from the hotel inspector 😊could be some jobs on the line if the manager watches your review & see's all them laundry bags 🤔looks like there paying for the refurb with the profit of the food 🤣
Haha, I thank you are right marra, fish n chips £20, that has to be a joke and a bad one at that. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I see what you mean now. Breakfast looked good though 🙂
No complains about the breakfast at all, it was great, just such a shame the rest of the food and the hotel did not meet that standard. On a positive note, we did find a lovely café to eat in next time we are in Glenridding :o). Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
thanks for the great video my friends
Thanks for the visit John, real nice of you buddy, cheers Alan
I worked there for the first two weeks the woman who is in charge is the worst boss I’ve ever had
That is a shame and been there with a bad boss before and it is not good. I hope you are at a better place now. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
That view out that window though...
Yeah I know what you mean, it was amazing but man I was bummed about the dirt on the windows, which was worse than it looking on the GoPro, such a shame but hopefully they will get their act together there. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan

Oh dear...awful decor and other issues. Such a shame given the views.
Could not agree more with you David, such a shame as this place could be a real gem, as it is in the perfect situation. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Amazing👍👍👍
Thanks for visiting, real good of you to watch and take the time to leave a comment, cheers Alan
So goods my friend
Appreciate you stopping by, good of you, cheers Alan
Guttred for yous mate nothing worse than trying to make life a little better for somone and it goes wrong but at least there will be plenty of guys watch this and think the same did you complain to them mate or just pack up and go never to return
On check out there was just a young lad who had been helpful at breakfast so I did not think it was fair to be angry with him, as he was trying his best but just put it down to lesson learned. Really wanted it to make it a special time away for Mrs Metalman as she has had an awful start to the year but at least the weather was great and sure is a blessing this year for sure. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
