I recall this car from the American Le Mans Series in 2005. It certainly wasn't as eye-pleasing as the Audi R8 or the Lola EX257, but it sure had an engine noise you weren't likely to forget. Thanks for showcasing this prototype!
The white Autocon car last raced in 03 or 04, I believe. I remember the engine was branded Lincoln. The black Jim Matthews car's career ended in turn 1 at the 02 Petit LeMans. Happened right in front of me.
@@JHamilton791 it might not have been either of those two cars, but there was a Riley & Scott Mk III at the ALMS races for Sears Point and Laguna Seca in 2005. I don’t recall the name of the team that ran it.
@@theunclebsimchannel6434 apologies, I didn't remember that. It had to be Autocon I think. 05 was the really "slim" year for prototypes so that would make sense.
@@JHamilton791 Yes. I remember seeing an ALMS race first time in 2003 at Laguna Seca and there seemed to be a lot more prototypes back then. Of course the EX257 was running in LMP2/LMP675 class. Audi had cut back to just the Champion team in 2005 (except for Sebring I think) while they were working on the R10. At Laguna Seca in 2005, since it was the season-ender race, Zytek had sent one of their prototypes over just to make the field a little bigger.
These cars remind me of Can Am cars. It's amazing how successful they were in the USA endurance races, Daytona and Sebring. Elan-built Ford V-8 engines give quite a push and sound great!
It sounds so similar to the LMPC car that we ran here in IMSA as well. American V8's just thump the course! Awesome video! I have seen those old Porsches on the track at Sonoma too!
I'm lucky enough to have seen one of these run at a small track in the US. Standing about 10 feet from the car at idle, it felt like someone pounding on your chest. It was amazing!
Mean sound, been hoping for a proper video of this car! There's an awesome old video of Le Mans 2004 or something on here somewhere which reminded me of its existence
