ive been legally blind my whole life with RP and cone rod dystrophy and not many ppl know what legally blind means so I usually just say "I'm very nearsighted" because I don't always have the time to explain. I've adapted to life and never heard the concept of masking, so later realized I do mask alot. Masking was a way to get by socially because I wanted to try and fit in and later embraced my difference. I still have to remind family and friends I can't see things which is annoying but also sort of a compliment because I carry myself as someone who is normally sighted. You do hear alot of ignorant comments from people or ppl laugh at you for reading close which is so rude. It makes you have to develop thick skin because people won't ask questions to understand, they'll just make a joke of it before they even know what vision issues you have going on. Having a sense of humor helps though, I joke about it with ppl I'm close to.

Man! I met a blind person today, before meeting him, I was thinking no one gifts me, no one loves me, God has not written any good things in my life, I was complaining God why me, but then I saw these both blind men together going to places helping each other.
One of them sat beside me,(We were in a Bus) he asked me, where am I going and can you tell me the station/stop where is he was going and tell him when it comes and I said I will leave the bus one stop behind and said the next stop is where you are supposed to go and I said the bus driver will also let you know about it
And when I reached my stop and was leaving the bus, he said "Take care of yourselves". I was like God has not given him vision but still he is so thankful and polite and wishes well being of mine and here I have everything still I am complaining.
I said in my mind, "God, you know how to explain me and show me the good way"😀

I would be very scary if I become blind. How do you feel after not being able to see and how do cope with it. I'm sorry for asking stupid question but I really want to know the feeling being blind
Hey it's not a stupid question at all. And the truth is it's quite scary. I think the biggest thing is the feeling of not being able to do a lot of the things you previously could do. And even when you learn how to do a lot of these things all over again, it's not as easy as it used to be. When I first lost my eyesight, I thought my life was over.
Luckily, that wasn't true. There's a lot of ways to do things now that weren't available for blind people even just 30 years ago. Things like talking devices, using AI to scan paper documents, and even simple things like public buildings now having tactile guides (those little dots and strips you sometimes see on the floor of places like train stations). Now is the best time in history to be blind, because there's so many tools and services to help us go out, cook, work, fall in love (yes really). A lot of us can and do live very normal and happy lives. Like me.
I didn't choose to be blind. And I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. But at the same time, I'm really grateful for the things that exist today that help me as a blind person.

I have keratoconus and my left eye vision is marginally better than yours. My right is better cause they caught it early enough and did a cross linking to stop progression but the fact that the two are so different I get constant migraines and have really shitty depth perception. Hoping to get this cornea transplant soon

Even if they have no vision, they can at least "sense/see" light levels, very very bright during day, that is why you see blind people with sunglasses on commonly

Question from someone who can actually see: How do you determine if it is an accurate representation when you yourself are unable to see?
Great question. I used to be able to see, my vision wasn't always this bad. So what I did was try my best to describe to my video editor how to re-create what I see through my eyes. Descriptors like "right eye has vision like looking through frosted glass" and "left eye has very blurry, narrow vision that can still see colour, like smearing Vaseline onto a camera lens".
I then show the video to other people to see if they can describe it in a similar enough way. Once it sounded close enough, that's the version we used.
Obviously this isn't 100% accurate but it's probably the best way we could get an approximation to visually demonstrate what I personally see through my eyes, since I have no realistic way of verifying the final product myself. Hope that helps!

thanks for this vid! i don’t understand how you are able to describe what you see to other people though. how do you know what frosted glass looks like? how can anyone including yourself tell if the examples on the screen are accurate?
therein lies the challenge because you don't always truly know unless you've been normally sighted before. you try by talking to other ppl who are sighted and both explain to each other as best you can.
for instance, you can't explain color to people who don't see light or color so you'd say something like red is hot, fiery, passionate, etc. or blue is calm, cold/cool, and so on.
You can never accurately show people how you see things any more than a crazy person can explain how their mind works. Ive been very near sighted my whole life and when ppl say how bad is your vision I don't have a definitive way to explain to them, I can only attempt.

I watched another interesting video of a guy who lost his eyeball. He said it’s like seeing with your elbows. You do not see even darkness because you have to eyeballs. Sounds really interesting
My mother had the frosted glass type vision in one of her eyes and her other eye was poor vision but she could still see enough to read and do things

How do you read comments
I use a software called a screen reader that reads text on the screen to me. I actually have a recent video that you can check out where I demonstrate this and how blind people use iPhones!

Guess you haven't heard of friends..
I gave my editors pretty detailed notes on what my vision is supposed to look like. And I wasn't born blind, I lost my vision over time so I do know what it's actually like to see normally vs what I can see now. That's how I'm able to describe it to my editors. I also showed it to other people and asked them to describe it back to me, and the descriptions they gave me were basically what I told my editors to do (so my editors probably got it right).
But to some extent you're right, I will never really know how accurately the visuals would look since I can't check it myself.

Im half blind. Everything is a blur unless its right in front of my face.
Yup I know a few people who play games that way. Your vision is definitely better than mine then, I can't see anything clearly no matter how close it is to my face.
@@JoshTseng One of my greatest fears is losing my sight completely or my vision worsening to the point where my glasses don't work anymore. this may seem weird but in my opinion what you're going through is worse than full blindness because you can still see color though not it's shape you can see movement but not the figures making it and your other eye doesn't even allow that. its like your eyes are teasing you. its like giving someone a smell of food but not letting them eat. i'm sorry you have to go through this man. Just remember, true strength comes from your mind not your body. Your will is your weapon to combat the bumps in the way through your path of life.

How do you know what a frosted glass look likes? Sometimes im skeptical about blind people.. Without badwords in the name of God.I dont believe them sometime 50/50.
So how TF are u gonna get a phone and say that your right eye looks like frosted glass if your blind?
Because I wasn't always blind and know what frosted glass looks like from before I went blind. I don't film or edit the videos myself, I tell an editor what to do, who helps me put these videos together. Hope that answers your question.
