I love these 'lost years' of Jerry, the wilderness years. I saw him in the early 80's with no expectations and he put on the show of a lifetime. He was punk long before and after
My favorite recording of Jerry and one of my favorite musical performances ever is his live show at the Hammersmith Odeon in April 1983, definitely search that up on here
I've never seen anyone before or since Jerry Lee jump into double-timing his attack on the piano for several measures and then just settle back down to just playing along with the boys with the grace that only a super-master could pull off. It was unreal what he could do on piano!
@@hbbeverly until the MD took my thumb apart, I played piano and people liked it. For 60+- years. Jerry Lee Lewis did things I never saw in my dreams. He was Number One.
To me, eyes wide open to his 'roarin', JLL was Mad Genius. From abject poverty to world famous, buying Mother and Father cars and houses, is stuff fairy tales are made of but he was for real. Loved him, as the saying goes, "warts and all."
How could this superstar of music still NOT BE in the CMHOF! His early rock work was great in that it put him on the map, so to speak, but it was a brief part of his career, with trivial lyrics and music that cannot even remotely compare with his eloquent and profound litany of country and Gospel recordings. WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan. Had the pleasure to see Jerry Lee live in Melbourne,Australia at a venue called the Festival Hall,in the late 50's-early 60's & he was magnificent. Jerry had all the young females in raptures, when he simulated shagging an uptight microphone. One of the best live shows i have ever seen. Long live his memory.
@@MrRazorblade999 but everything Jerry Lee did, he covered songs that you've heard a thousand times and made them sound like the had just been written for him.
Jerry was definately one of rocks' forefathers. Between his voice and outstanding piano playing he was one of the greatest whether it be rock or country.
Jerry Lee was in Rock in Roll purgatory when he recorded two Albums in the late 60's. Another Place/Another Time and She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye. With one swoop he went from Rock and Roll purgatory to Hillbilly Heaven. Two of the greatest country music albums ever recorded. He's the BEST when he wanted to be.
The killer and 85 today still lives in Mississippi still has a lot of hair on his head he loves his little dog that he has just amazing he's the only one still around today the rest of them are bored gone you can get tired of listening to him I think he's one of the best piano players on the planet I get this singer Jerry Lee Lewis five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍💯❤️
Damn right. This arrangement should have been lengthened to allow some time for the steel guitarist to be featured independently; in this video he is never shown! What an injustice!
Saw mr.jerry Lee Lewis in saskatoon Canada in the 70s greatest ever and it doesn't matter what he sings it sounds like it was written for him. Great entertainer
I hesitate to write this because I love Jerry Lee Lewis and feel it is with the utmost sincerity that he praises God in three persons through the many Gospel songs he has recorded that have blessed me so; however, there is a huge issue and worry for me regarding JLL or anyone who gets into SEVEN! marriages, based on caveats appearing in Holy Scripture which I'll spare you from propounding on. I hope God blesses JLL much more in the next life than he has in the present one, and I shall hope- fully be witness to it.
@ merf1491 I'm not saying it was right but things were different back then especially in the southern states. They were married for 13 years too remember. Either way Jerry Lee is one of the most talented musicians of all time and you have to recognize that. He has reached the top in both rock and country music and continues to perform even at 78.
Patsy Cline had a version of this as well, but the words and tune were changed somewhat. I think I prefer JLL, especially when I can see him on video and watch him work those piano keys.
This is music. Not the shit today. No country artist today can hold a candle to this cat. Plain and simple
Thank you sir he was running up against Elvis for being the best rock and roller ever and you think he can't handle this country shit come on people
People in music have been trying to measure themselves against this gutsy for ever. Few measure up.
YOU'RE RIGHT BRO END OF AN ERA.
GOOD OLD jERRY LEE, i love you Killer
He deserves to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame
Yes 🇩🇰
Jerry Lee Lewis IS the Country Music Hall of Fame...

He needs to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
He was admitted into the Country Music Hall of Fame not too long before he passed away
Gone...Always LOVED.. NEVER Forgotten! Never be another. Picked Himself up when he was down!
I played piano over 69 years and he still amazes me every time I hear or watch him play. Who can do what he just did?

Jerry Lee Lewis... fantastic. He is perhaps the greatest pianist to ever play.
@socal rocks yes buddy the greatest!!!!
Along with Fats Domino….unbelievable on the piano.
What joy Jerry Lee exudes
From 1963 - 1965 I served in the US Army. And Jerry Lee was the best back then, a bit wilder than this.
Love it excellent, what a talented entertainer

He can really sing this, love it❤
This guy breathes new life into every song he does. I like the Jerry Lee country stuff better than his rock and roll
+Tommy Haynes I agree and IMO Elvis Presley's country material was the best of his work.
Jerry Lee leaves me "Breathless" !!
His rock was wood,
hay, and stuble; his country was, and is,
God-given gold!
True. He is a criminally underrated country singer.
@@MrRazorblade999 but everything Jerry Lee did, he covered songs that you've heard a thousand times and made them sound like the had just been written for him.
i've been listening to jerry lee when my dad was young.i'm 62years old and i've never heard better.
Jerry was definately one of rocks' forefathers. Between his voice and outstanding piano playing he was one of the greatest whether it be rock or country.
I agree with you Robert! I’m 63 and grew up with the honkey tonk sound! Great times!

enthusiasm.

Yep!
Got them! and it wasn't hillbilly it was Real Country
These are heart breaking soul touching albums 💔
This better than other versions of a fine country song.
All his versions of any kind of music are better than anyone else's.
I kinda like Wanda Jackson's version.
@@flamencoprof I'll go listen. You-Tube is such a gift to us music lovers.

Jerry Lewis is.
Giving it the Tommy cooper with the quiff
that came from the music channel of course, and wasn't certainly not killers fault. So foolish to dislike...
He kicked Elvis ass, just my opinion.
What a talent!
